Names of the Original Warrantees of Pike County Pennsylvania

Original Warrantees of Pike County, Pennsylvania

"The County of Pike was separated from Wayne by the Act of March 26, 1814. It then comprised the Townships of Delaware, Lackawaxen, Palmyra, Middle Smithfield, and Upper Smithfield. By the Act of April 1, 1836, a portion of Pike County was cut off to form Monroe; otherwise its boundaries remain as they were established by the Act of 1814.

PREFACE

Torrey's Map of Wanye and Pike Counties, published as early as 1814, is the only map extant professing to show the location of the original surveys embraced within the present limits of the County of Pike. The fact that many thousand acres of land have been located since the date of its publication, renders a new County map indispensable.

The present map has been compiled from official surveys on file in the land office at Harrisburg; an amount of labor has been expended in its preparation that persons unacquainted with the difficulties to be encountered will hardly appreciate.

The numbers upon Torrey's Map, corresponding with the numbers in the Commissioners' office have been preserved in every instance; the new tracts are also numbered. In consequence of retaining the old numbering, an alphabetical instead of a numerical arrangement was rendered necessary; as the townships are now small, it is believed that little inconvenience will arise from this change in the arrangement.

Milford, December 3, 1915."*
