Captain John Paton, Scottish
Covenanter and martyr, was born in Meadowhead, Scotland
and executed in Edinburgh on
9 May 1684.
In May 2001 I visited Edinburgh
and Fenwick and took pictures of the Covenanters' Memorial in Edinburgh,
Grey-Friars Church, where the National Covenant was signed, and of Captain
John's memorial marker at the church in Fenwick. Please visit the
Photo Gallery to view these
pictures and others relating to Captain John, including pictures of some of his belongings and a mezzotint of him.
Covenanter John Howie wrote
about Captain John Paton in his book, The Scot Worthies.
