PAUL ESTLE POINTING TO LOCATON OF NUNIVAK ISLAND OFF WEST COAST OF ALASKA |
For starters, please let me apologize for the misspelling of Nunivak in the URL of this website. I contacted Rootsweb, and it is not possible to correct the spelling.
My parents, Kay and Paul Estle, were schoolteachers in the village of Mekoryuk on Nunivak Island off the west coast of Alaska back in the late 1950's. The following images and historical information are from their collection. The bulk of the images were shot with my father's Minox camera. The small negatives coupled with the films available during that time make for some somewhat grainy images. Most of the black and white images are scanned from what amout to "wallet size" prints. I am guessing I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-300 images. I will put them up as time permits, check back often for updates.September 10, 2002
FYI I have just finished scanning in another 150 pictures! (I said I had 300 earlier, but forgot that half of them were thumbnails!) And I am working on editing them so I can get them up on the site. I had no idea I had this many! I have not yet even looked at the color slides! The slides will take a bit longer to put up, because I have to have them scanned by a local outfit and it is expensive. I am looking into getting a film scanner so that I can scan them myself. If you have any information you would like to see posted with certain pictures, i.e. names, etc., email me! If you have any anecdotes or stories about my parents or the time they spent there, please email me as well.
Thanks for looking!
