TRACING RALEIGH COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA, 
FIRST FAMILIES


The 1850 Raleigh County census was the first census for Raleigh County. Prior to that, Raleigh County was a part of Logan County and then a part of Fayette County. 

This chart represents the Heads of Households listed for the 1850 Raleigh County census. Information from transcripts of the 1824 and 1827 Logan County Personal Property Tax lists, the 1830 Logan County census, and the 1840 Fayette County census was used to trace the families in the first 1850 Raleigh County census. 

In addition, the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Raleigh County census transcripts have been used to provide information on these same 1850 Heads of Households.

The same numbering system has been used here as in the "1850 Raleigh County Brides Lists," prepared by Melissa Duggins. If two families appear in a household, the first family is indicated with an "a" after the household number. The second family will have a "b" after the number. By using the "1850 Raleigh County Brides Lists" and this chart together, we hope your genealogy research will be made easier. Please let me know if you find any discrepancies between these two lists.
