George Cosby ODOM, Sr & Connie Bell (WALKER) ODOM with children

ca 1929, Webster Co., KY

George Cosby "Cosby" ODOM, born 29 Aug 1899, Rural Route of Sebree, near Ortiz, Webster Co., KY to Jepp Newton "Jack" ODOM and Ideller Catherine "Idella" BURTON; died 16 Apr 1979, Henderson Methodist Hospital, Henderson, Henderson Co., KY; buried 19 Apr 1979, Springdale Cemetery, Sebree, Webster Co., KY.

Connie Bell WALKER, born 1 August 1900, near Sebree, Webster Co., KY to Rosa Avery THOMAS and John David WALKER; died 28 January 1994 Colonial Terrace Nursing Home, Sebree, Webster Co., KY; buried 31 January 1994, Springdale Cemetery, Sebree, Webster Co., KY (next to Cosby). In her early years, her parents lived in a log house near Steamport Lane. Her father was a farmer (named for his father, John Walker). When his wife Rosa was in poor health, he hired a maiden lady, Arah McCullen BEAL, to help with the work and small children.

Cosby & Connie eloped, when they were married 17 Dec. 1917, Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN. As a result, on their marriage license they resorted to untruths, and had a cousin [this compiler believes, from other records] "Tomie Oglesby" stand up as witness to their charade. "Cosby Odom" gave his birth date three years in advance of his actual birth year, getting age 21 rather than age 18. "Connie B. Walker" gave her birth date two years in advance of her actual birth year, getting age 19 rather than age 17.
