The Old Fort Genealogical Society was organized in 1982 to assist individuals in their genealogical research. It is a non-profit organization whose aims are to create and foster an interest in genealogy, to gather and preserve genealogical and historical data and to maintain a genealogical section in the Fort Madison Public Library system. The Old Fort Genealogical Society is a chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society.

Membership is open to anyone interested in family history research.  It is not confined to residents of North Lee County, Iowa, or to those having North Lee County ancestors.  Annual dues are $10 for a single membership or $12 for a family membership.  The membership year is from April 1 to March 31.  Those joining the society after Feb. 1 shall be credited with dues for the following year.  Members are asked to submit their ancestor charts to be published in the Old Fort QUARTERLY and filed at the library.

Newsletter
Members receive a 20-page periodical which is published in April, July, October and January.  Each QUARTERLY contains an average of 300 names connected to the North Lee County, Iowa area.  Old Fort members are encouraged to submit unlimited queries at no charge.  Non-members may submit queries for $1 each.  Please limit each query to 50 words.

Research pertaining to North Lee County, Ia  will be conducted by a society volunteer upon request.
