1862 Deed for Shady Grove

1862 DEED TO SHADY GROVE
FROM RICHARD & SOPHIA MORGAN
TO WILLIAM C. PERROW


This Deed made and entered into this 10th day of December 1862, between Richard Morgan and his Sophia W., is wife, of the first part, and William C. Perrow of the second part, all of the County of Campbell and State of Virginia.

Witnesseth that the said Richard Morgan and Sophia W., his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of $7,536 to them in hand paid by the said William C. Perrow, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell to the said William C. Perrow a certain tract and parcel of land lying and being in the County of Campbell on both sides of Molly�s Creek and bounded as follows, to wit:

Beginning at a Chestnut oak corner to Dr. Withers on the Pigeon Run Road; thence along said road as it meanders N.57.E 54 poles, N.71.E 24 poles, N.66.E 64 poles, N.81.E 44 poles, S.73.E 44 poles, N.81.E 60 poles, S.77.E.54 poles, N.67.E 45 poles 6 links to a dead Spanish oak; thence N.41.W 65 poles 15 links to the root of a dead tree blown down; thence N.68.5.E 43 poles 19 links; thence N.24.W 5 poles 12 links; thence N.71.E 31 poles 15 links; thence S.11.W 3 poles; thence N.11.E 192 poles 12 links on Martin�s line to corner stone on Courthouse Road; thence following the road n.8.W 18 poles crossing Molly�s Creek; thence N.35.W 25 poles; thence N.38 poles; thence N.39.W 62 poles to Clements� corner; thence on Clements line S.79.W 103 poles 5 links to Haythe�s corner; thence on Haythe�s line W 39 poles 20 links; thence S.45.W 108 poles; thence S.62.E 30 poles to a bunch of oaks; thence on a new line S.31.W 205 poles 15 links to a red oak; thence S.43.W 15 poles 15 links to the beginning, containing 628 acres, more or less.

But, the said Richard Morgan and Sophia W., his wife, reserve to themselves the right and title to the land within th stone wall of the front yard included in the above metes and bounds.

And, the said Richard Morgan and Sophia W., his wife, do by these presents covenant for themselves, their heirs, etc., with the said William C. Perrow, his heirs, etc., to forever warrant and defend a good and lawful title in and to said land (except the reservation above made) free from the claim of themselves, their heirs, and all other persons whatever.

This day, Richard Morgan, a party to the foregoing deed bearing date the 10th day of December 1862, personally came before me, James Organ, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid, and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed.

Campbell County, to wit:

This day, Sophia W. Morgan, wife of Richard Morgan, parties to the foregoing deed bearing date the 10th day of December 1862, personally came before us, James Organ and Boler Cock, Justices of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid, and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband, and having the said deed fully explained to her, she declared that she had willingly signed and sealed the same, and that she does not wish to retract it.

Given under our hands this 3rd day of January 1863.
