"Mem'erin'"
by Clara Tracy

When you're just a sittin' thinkin',
Kinda coddlin' thoughts along,
Sort of 'mem'erin' your old flames,
And your heart's love's old sweet song.

In the days when just a fiddle
And a banjo was enough
For a party to make merry,
And dear Grandma used her snuff.

When you worked out in the sunshine,
And you didn't mind the rain,
And on Sundays just went walkin',
Strolled in couples down the lane.

If you get to listenin' careful
You can hear the church bells ring,
And your heart will beat some faster
When the choir starts to sing.

And if you still keep thinkin'
While you're playin' with your thought,
You can 'member most the fun you had,
And the battles you have fought.

Just callin' back your livin',
Well, it wasn't half so bad.
Then lookin' at the folds today
You get to feelin' sad.

They're sort o' light and foolish,
And you wonder if they're sane.
Then your bones begi9n to achin'
And you know it's goin' to rain.

So just better let them travel 'long,
As you traveled years ago.
The years they ain't so awful long,
They'll be 'mem'erin' soon, you know.
