Here is a collection of information about burials transcribed from memorials and from burial records. The 'ORMANDY further info. and clues' pages also have some information about burials taken from web sites, some of which I may transfer to these pages at some point.
For some of the graves a larger (sometimes different) picture can be viewed by clicking on the small image.

Notes: I had earlier found two transcriptions of the inscription: "Annie Ormondy late of Liverpool d. March 5 1849 aged 77. Also Isaac Ormondy Surgeon of Dalton d. Jany. 18 1855 aged 53." From '"The Inscriptions from the Tombstones in Dalton Churchyard" taken by Mr. Thomas Metcalf in November 1932 at Barrow Records Office "IN MEMORY OF ANNE ORMANDY LATE OF LIVERPOOL WHO DIED ON THE 5TH DAY OF MARCH 1849 AGED 77 YEARS. From a 1970s transcription (possibly 1979-80) at Barrow Records Office (There are discrepancies between the two - I double checked at least that I had transcribed the different ages of Isaac correctly. From his death certificate, Isaac died 18th January 1855 aged 53). Dave Ormandy and I looked at St. Cypriad's - a very small building - in September 2006 - there doesn't seem to be a graveyard.
Ilfracombe - Holy Trinity church
I visited the churchyard in December 2005. There are 2500 graves and the graveyard had been allowed to 'go wild' but is in the latter stages of a significant tidy up. I had found Mrs. Ormandy's house at 7 Rupertswood Terrace based on a probate record I had transcribed.

Dave Ormandy and spoke to the verger in March 2007 and she gave us the approx. location of the Ormandy/Glover grave no. 1011. There's a triangular area which has graves 994 to 1313 - we looked for the grave but grass has covered most of the area including, I expect, this grave's stone. The photo shows the relevant area (the 'lower' part of the triangle) - I'm pretty sure the upright stone is grave 1106 so not far away. |

Wigan - All Saints, Bishopsgate
Dave Ormandy and I visited the churchyard of the Parish Church of All Saints' Wigan in September 2006. The graveyard has been cleared of almost all memorials - we found just a handful left and no sign of Ormandys There is a statement at the GENUKI web site saying that the monumental inscriptions on the gravestones have been recorded and can be examined at Wigan library. Something to follow up Perhaps.

Dave Ormandy and I looked at St. James with St. Thomas in September 2006 - there doesn't seem to be a graveyard.
Wigan - Wigan Cemetery (at Lower Ince)
Dave Ormandy and I visited this cemetery in January 2008 armed with information from the Wigan World web site at http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/, and again in October 2009 with updated information. I think the dates from Wigan World are burial dates (which I have quoted as dates of death) and Place of Death is really residence.
