** Transcriber's Notes **

This institution was not listed as a named institution on the census schedule. It was listed only
as a Children's Home in the occupation description of the Head of Household. There was no religious
or government association mentioned.

Columns above represent surname, forename, relationship, gender, race, age, marital status, whether
attended school anytime since Sept 1, 1919, whether able to read, whether able to write, person's place
of birth, person's mother tongue, father's place of birth, father's mother tongue, mother's place of
birth, mother's mother tongue, and whether person is able to speak English.

This transcriber has used abbreviations for birth place and mother tongue. Minn for Minnesota, Ill
for Illinois, Germ for Germany and German, Hung for Hungry and Hungarian, Japa for Japan and Japanese,
Aust for Austria, Pers for Persia and Persian, Kans for Kansas, and "-" for columns with no entry.

Columns omitted from the transcription include place of abode, whether home was owned or rented and
mortgage status of home, year of immigration, whether person is a naturalized citizen or alien, date of
naturalization, occupation and industry or establishment, if person is a wage earner or working on own
account, and number on farm schedule.

All inmates' data is recorded in this transcription except for occupation, which was listed as NONE
for all inmates on the census. Immigration data was listed for one inmate and is explained in the footnotes.
Home ownnership status, immigration data, occupation and industry, and earnings type for the adults are
listed as footnotes.

Children's Home 10704 Prospect Avenue, Morgan Park, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois

1 Rents her home and is listed as Superintendent of the Children's Home as a wage earner.
2 Occupation is listed as servant in Children's Home as a wage earner
17 Portman or Postman
18 Portman or Postman
20 On the census sheet, the column just before the literacy questions was the question of whether this
person was naturalized and year of immigration. The enumerator listed a YES in this column. This
question should have been left blank, as this person and her parents were born in Penn. These two
YES answers in sequence could have been misplaced entries and meant to be YES this person has
attended school since Sept 1, 1919 and then, YES this person can read.
