Old Fly Cemetery


The "Old Fly Cemetery" is located on the old Fly homestead at the head of Joys Creek. This is the land that Jeremiah Nicholas and Nancy Fly purchased when they first arrived in 1839.
Directions from the intersection at Purdy, Mo. are as follows. Go west from the intersection 2.1 miles and turn left or south on road 1055. Go south 1.2 miles to the first creek crossing. Cross the second creek and the gate to enter the field is about 100 foot south of the 2nd crossing on the left or east side of the road. From the gate the cemetery is about 200 yds to the center of the field on your right as you enter the gate.

Martin Van Buren Fly 3-17-1838 / 5-26-1863.....Son of Jeremiah & Nancy.

Martin was murdered by bush whackers at his home in Verona, Mo. His body was brought home for burial in a wagon pulled by a team of oxen.
