DUNKARD

CHRONICLES
THE SNIDERS
OF MONONGALIA COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA
AND THEIR DESCENDANTS
Greetings Researchers!
This web site (which remains under perpetual reconstruction!) is an attempt
to set forth the complex saga of four family patriarchs (Rudolph, John, and two
Georges) who settled the western frontier of what was then Virginia in the 1770's.
These men shared a common surname - SNIDER - though some of their posterity
took to spelling it "SNYDER." Generations of investigators have tried and failed to
prove a blood link between them. Were they related or just incidental neighbors?
Readers are invited to review the facts and decide for themselves.
The legacy of these four frontiersmen is truly astounding. Descendants married
into local families (such as the CORE and LEMLEY clans) and spread far and
wide - settling from coast to coast. A vast wealth of genealogical material exists
concerning hundreds of these people. It is hoped that in time, this data will be fully
presented here, and that this website will serve as its permanent archive.
Please be patient and check back periodically.
We welcome you here and hope that you find some useful information.
Should you discover a connection, please share your knowledge
(contact names and emails are provided on subsequent pages).
Should you not come upon any family relations,
we wish you luck in discovering your own ancestral past.
The editors of the DUNKARD CREEK CHRONICLES wish to express
their thanks to the many individuals who have contributed genealogical
data to this website. Your generosity is most appreciated.
