"HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY" By John Stillwell, M.D. Vol. V pgs. 82-83:

Job Throckmorton, son of John, was born in 1650, (Sept. 30), probably in Rhode Island. He came to Middletown in 1667 and was allotted lands in the village and outlying country. "1667, Dec. 30. Job Throckmorton drew in the first division of lands in Middletown, lot No. 22, and on Dec. 31, 1667, he drew lot No. 36.

"In 1670, he owned a large tract of ground, in Middletown, to which he added a grant from the Proprietors, Nov. 18, 1676, which he subsequently exchanged for land at Colt's Neck, Jan. 7 [20], 1700, owned by Nathaniel Leonard, who was joined in the deed by his wife, Susannah Leonard. Each family thereupon took permanent residence upon their newly acquired domain, and the Leonard's gave to their land the name of Leonardsville.

In 1700, when this transfer took place, Job Throckmorton was residing at Shrewsbury. "1690, Aug. 18. Job Throckmorton appointed his brother, Samuel Leonard, attorney, in re his brother, Joseph, deceased." "1705, Job Throckmorton and Sarah, his wife, of Shrewsbury, conveyed lands to Daniel Applegate."

"Job Throckmorton and Sarah Leonard were married by Peter Tilton, at Middletown, Feb. 2, 1684/5." Among the witnesses there appeared the names of Henry Leonard, Samuel Leonard, John Leonard and Mary Leonard.

She (Sarah Leonard) died Feb. 5, 1743/4, aged 83 yrs, 8 mo., & 6 days [born May 30, 1660], and is buried in Christ churchyard, Shrewsbury. The site is marked with a brown stone, and is surrounded by the graves of many of her descendants.

Job died Aug. 20, 1709, aged 58 years, 10 mo. & 21 days and was buried in the Lippit or Taylor Burying ground, in the heart of Middletown village. He died intestate and the inventory of his estate amounted to 99 pounds, 1 pence.

Sarah & Job had: John; Joseph; Job; Samuel; Rebecca; James (supposed); Mary, m. Daniel Grandin; Sarah, b. 1685, m. 1st John Powell, & 2nd Dr. William Nichols; Patience, m. Amos Grandin.

Pg. 89: Job Throckmorton, son of Job, married Frances [Stout?]. footnote: Frances, the wife of Job Throckmorton, by reason of her Christian name and her residence, "may" have been a descendant of Richard, son of Richard and Penelope Stout. The burial record of Christ church, Shrewsbury, NJ says, "Mr. Job Throckmorton was buried in the church-yard Feb 24, 1747. No stone indicates, however, the location.

pg. 90: 1748, July 25. Frances Throckmorton, of Freehold, wife of Job Throckmorton, deceased, renounced her right as administratrix, on her husband's estate, in favor of her eldest son John Throckmorton. She signed with a good signature.

Sarah Leonard Throckmorton
Sarah Leonard Throckmorton survived her husband many years. She is mentioned in the will of her son John, with whom she probable made her home in her old age. She died 5 Feb., 1743/4; interred Feb. 7th, Christ Churchyard, Shewsbury. Her stone, like her husband's, was erected by order of her dau. Sarah Nichols' will, 1755. It has been reinforced by iron rods, * and reads thus,
"Here lies the body of Sarah wife of Job Throckmorton who Departed this life February the fifth Day Annoq Domini one Thousand seven hundred Forty three-four aged Eighty three years Eight Months and six Days."
