Leonard-Rupe-Stephenson Genealogy

The following is a possibility for our line.
I cannot prove, nor as far as this genealogist knows,
can anyone disprove the information contained within.
I have been researching our Leonard line for over 30 years
and as new research raises its head, it will be posted here.
I welcome any comments on this family.

[Samuel Lennarde, of ‘West Wickham, Kent, son of John Lennarde of Knole, in the same county, was knighted in 1603, and was a member of the Virginia Company under the third charter, when he paid £62.10.

He was ancestor of the Lennards of West Wickham, baronets, now extinct.

His sisters were Elizabeth, who married Sir Francis Eure, Chief Justice of North Wales;

Timothea, married Sir Walter Covert, of Slaugham, in Sussex, a member of the Virginia Company;

Mary, married Sir Thomas Gresham, of Fitzey, in Surrey (kinsman and heir of the famous Elizabethan merchant), and

Anne, who married Sir Marmaduke Darrell, of Fulmer, Berkshire, also a member of the Virginia Company.

As Lady (ANNE) Darrell’s oldest brother was named "Sampson Lennarde", it is possible that Sampson Darrell who lived in Virginia in ths latter part of the seventeenth century, was a descendant.]

From here on, there are so many conflicting reports about who Thomas d. 1759 belongs to, that I took it upon myself to search every book I could find on these Leonards. I found many on microfilm from the LDS Library, so took all the research and scoured over it, and the following is what, to my estimation is the most correct. Some have Thomas belonging to Samuel, son of 1618 Henry Leonard, but all my research says that 1618 Henry is his father, not his grandfather. If you have a problem with this, please leave me a note in my guest book and I will contact you for your input. Thank you, Mary

Generation 7

Capt. John Leonard, youngest son of Henry and Mary, b. 1670 Mass.

Who raised these children??

Their children were 5 sons & 2 daughters, and all born before 1712
Thomas
John
Henry b. abt 1701
James
Samuel
Sarah
Ann

Generation 8

Henry Leonard b. 1701, m. Hannah (?)
The only other data I can find on this Henry leonard is that he had a son, Capt. Henry Leonard b. with my estimation of around 1722-25

Source: Will of Thomas, brother to Henry, John & Samuel.
The will written on paper 91/2 inches by 14 inches is 12 pages long
and very complicated. Henry Leonard, brother to deceased brother
Thomas, had sons Samuel, Thomas and Captain Henry Leonard, ""who
had son Henry Leonard named in his will""
and daughter, Sarah
Leonard. It is this Captain Henry Leonard that this writer is most
interested in as the information so far found seems to point to him
as being the ancestor of the North Carolina Leonard Family.

Interpreting the will;
Thomas, Henry, James and Samuel were children of John and Elizabeth
Leonard and brothers to each other.
Henry and James died leaving children. Thomas died leaving NO
issue. Samuel is still living when Thomas dies.
All the nephews and nieces inheirit from Thomas.
In his will he states that his brother Henry Leonard is the father
of Capt Henry Leonard and that Capt. Henry Leonard has a son that he
has left $10.00 to in the will.

Now, if his deceased brother is Henry was b. 1701. Capt Henry had
to be born abt 1720-25, no earlier. Then we had figured Capt.
Henry's son, that his widow Elizabeth transferred lands to in 1784
and died 1803, was probably born after 1755, because Capt Henry
was in VA, fighting with the Indians!! But we know from Thomas's will that he was already born in 1759!!!

Capt. Henry Leonard b. abt. 1722-25 New Jersey d. 1770 Rowan Co,
N.C.
m. Elizabeth Hogg(Hope) b. 1730, Scotland d. after 1784, Salisbury, Rowan Co, N.C.
