HAROLD MORGAN STANLEY - extracts from letters to his father,
George Wilson Stanley in Ireland from Canada

Oct 29, 1904

My Sundays are spent every one differently so I cannot tell you how I have spent all my Sundays but take one, say the Church Sunday. Well we get up as usual early. Perhaps a little later than usual. Half  six and the first thing I do is milk. Then we have breakfast. After breakfast we have a cleanup, that is a shave and Sunday clothes. Then the Parson comes, other neighbors, then Church. Last Sunday I had to saddle Paddy and go to the  next neighbor just when it was time to start Church, for the hymn books. The service is just like a Methodist service, only not so lively as some.

Then after Church when everyone has gone we have dinner. The Minister always stays for dinner. Then after dinner the Minister  goes and we are left alone. It is generally about 1 o'clock then and all the morning gone. Then I write my letters. Sometimes we hve a neighbour staying for dinner and for the afternoon so that I cannot get time to write.  I will always miss dear old Ireland and you are in my thoughts daily. Perhaps one day I will return after I have had my education here learning the ways of the land.  Give my love to all.

Harold
