CROWTHER: Samuel and Eliza Crowther of Halifax, England and their infant daughter Jane, left from London on board this sailing of BIRMAN bound for Port Nicholson. A month and a half into the voyage young Jane died having been unwell since around November 19th. Mr Bruce Crowther of Te Awamutu has compiled an excellent record of the ship, the voyage and life on board. Copies of this book are available from it's author at [email protected] |

MAXTON family Samuel MAXTON was born in 1814 to Peter and Anne (nee Hemmings). Samuel married Henrietta BURROWS and together they had four children before Henrietta died in child birth in 1848. Samuel later re-married Susannah DUNNE and they had a further seven children. Samuel ran a bakery in Greytown, in the Wairarapa and died there in 1884. One of Samuels children, Annie born 1855, married William Francis ROYDHOUSE whose family had newspapers in Gretown and Masterton. One of their children, Francis William born 1887, married Muriel Crawley and one of their issue, William John ROYDHOUSE, married Millicent ADAMS whose parents arrived on the Lancashire Witch.
