Edinburgh castle, 627 tons, Captain H
Cape, sailed 4th December, 1872, arrived 14th May. When off Beechy Head the ship collided
with the brigantine Fergus, carrying away some of her fore rigging, top gallant bulwarks
and anchor stock. The brigantine was also damaged. The Edinburgh Castle put back to Deal
for repairs, sailing again on the 28th December. She struck a heavy gale of Eddystone
Lighthouse and had to put back to Portland. She made her final start on 24th january.
