Egmont
Ship: 767 tons
Captain: Gibson
Surgeon Superintendent: Dr Harper
Sailed London September 11th 1856 - arrived Lyttelton December 23rd 1856
The full rigged ship Egmont, a vessel
of 688 tons (?) was an exception to most of the vessels sent out by Willia Gann, Co. She
was for her size, a fairly speedy ship and on all occasions made good average runs to
Auckland and Dunedin. When the Egmont arrived in Lyttleton in 1856 she brought out as
passengers Bishop Harper, with Mrs Harper and family (6), and the Rev. G H Eyre and family
(7), and 118 (?) immigrants.
White Wings - Sir Henry Brett
We would like to thank Michele Cook for her assistance in compiling this list.
