RICE family:
John and Mary RICE arrived on the Eveline with their children John and Margaret. John snr was a stonemason from Belfast who had met Mary in Capetown where they married in 1860. The two children were born there. They were allocated land at Pukekohe that they did not take up. The family were living in Auckland in 1866 where they had a third child Elizabeth. By 1869 they had moved to Greymouth and sometime after this the marriage broke up. John Rice died in Dunedin after living in Roxburgh for many years and Mary died in Westport. If you have a connection with this family or would like to know more please contact Shirley Arabin.

RILEY family:
William Riley was born at East Peckham in Kent, England in 1822 and was a gardener by trade. He went to South Africa from England between 1850-1854 and then came to New Zealand in 1865 on the ship "Eveline". His sons Jacob, George and William came with him. There is no record at present of his wife and daughter coming from South Africa at the time he came over to New Zealand. He was granted land at Waipipi, Lot 1 McEldowney Rd, between Ramarama and Runciman near Papakura. At the time of his death he was living in Karaka Rd Thames and his occupation was as a Gardener. There were 3 sons and 1 daughter living at the time of his death. Jacob, George and William. I do not know who the daughter was at this time, as her age is given as 57 it means that she was older than Jacob who was born in 1848/50. Cause of death was old age. He is buried at Shortland Cemetery, Thames. If you have a connection with this family or would like to know more please contact Carol Mitchell.

SCOTT family
William Scott, his wife Fanny (nee Eaton) and their two daughters, Kate & Jane, settled in Auckland. Jane (Abt 1859-1879) married Kenneth Mc Donald (1856-1890) in 1876 at the tender age of 17. Sadly she died 3 years later in 1879 soon after the birth of her second child.
