FAIRBROTHER brothers: Edmund (born 7 October 1860), Jonathan , and Giles Fairbrother, lived at Sparrow Lane Farm, Southall, Norwood, Middlesex, England, before they boarded the Golden Sea ship on 29th January 1874, from London, bound for New Zealand. What baffled me during my family search was how the three boys appeared to have travelled unaccompanied by a parent, or adult named Fairbrother. It seems their father, also Edmund Fairbrother, passed away at just 35 years old and their mother Emma, remarried a man named John Taylor. Together John and Emma had two more children, Emma junior and Walter and as is recorded on this passenger list, the entire family did in fact immigrate to New Zealand. While they travelled with their mother and step-father as a family group, because of their age they would have been transferred to the Single Men's quarters. My Great Grandfather Edmund (1860), lived in Oamaru, South Island, New Zealand and married Elizabeth Smart. I would welcome contact from any Fairbrother descendants interested in our family history. Please feel free to contact me Gay Ross |

Thomas SUTTON: Thomas was born 11 Dec 1857 in Banbury, Oxford, England, the son of Daniel SUTTON & Susannah BUTLER. He died 07 Jun 1925 in Wanganui, New Zealand from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease" and was buried 09 Jun 1925 in Aramoho Cemetery, Wanganui, New Zealand. He was employed in 1876 as a carpenter. He resided 1893 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He resided 1925 in Tongariro St, Wanganui, New Zealand. Thomas married Rebecca Annie GRAY, daughter of Benjamin GRAY and Emma JULYAN, on 11 Mar 1876 in Home of Mr. Kirk (Rebecca's stepfather), Palmerston North, New Zealand. Benjamine & Emma came to New Zealand in 1842 per the 'Clifton'. Rebecca was born 14 Apr 1859 in Otaki, New Zealand. She died 19 May 1936 in New Plymouth, New Zealand from breast cancer, and was buried 21 May 1936 in Wanganui, New Zealand. Thomas & Rebecca had many children, including Ada Olive Butler Sutton, born 19 Apr 1889, who married Ralph Edwin Charles BOSWELL in 1910.
