WILKINS family:
Thomas (son of Robert WILKINS) married Matilda YOUNG on the 24th December 1838 at Charlton near Malmsbury WILTSHIRE. Their only child MATILDA was born in Charlton, Malmsbury on 21st August 1839. On the 5th February 1843 SARAH, THOMAS and MATILDA arrived in Nelson on board the ship " INDUS". they  set up home out at Happy Valley which is now known as WAKAPAUKA. They eventually moved to the Teal Valley. Today the original home is still there slightly altered. Sarah was a very good keeper of records and kept very detailed lists of all her transactions, she had a very good relationship with the local Maori people who she traded with. They used a short cut track past her home which took them through to the Marlborough side, I believe it is used to this day. Sarah also had a wooden leg and I don't know how that came about, but I do know a story going through the family is that the leg is what caused her demise. MATILDA married Charles LYFORD in Nelson on 9th Nov 1853 at the age of 15 years, she later married William WESTLEY. MCNABB Family:
Edward Fitzgerald MCNABB, a child on board the "Indus" married Alice Hand WOOLF on the 20th June 1850 in Motueka. Alice came to Nelson on the "Martha Ridgway" with her parents and siblings arriving in Nelson in 1842. Their daughter Alice Hand MCNABB married William RYDER in 1881 in Motueka.
