BAGGARLEY family:
James Henry was born in Southwark, South London, in 1813. He was the second child of five and the eldest son of James Henry Baggarley and Grace Cockett. In 1842 James, his wife Louiza and their daughter Eliza emigrated to Nelson on this sailing of the Mary Ann. Shortly after arriving in 1842, Louiza gave birth to James Henry Augustus. Other children born to Louiza and James were William in 1845 and Louiza in 1848. Unfortunately this year was to prove disastrous for James and his family. Three year old William died of dropsy, infant Louiza died a few days after her birth, followed three months later by her mother. Left to care for 12 year old Eliza and 6 year old James Henry Augustus, James Henry went onto marry Jessie Adamson who emigrated in 1849 on board the Kelso. Jessie had been bound for Otago but met James in Wellington when the ship stopped there in November 1849. If you have a connection with this family or would like to know more please contact Keith Jacobs.
Keith welcomes any enquiries or information about the Baggarley family which can be directed to his website at Baggarley One Name
