LUSK family:
Robert Baillie Lusk was educated in Greenock, became a stationer and bookseller, and later he had a millboard mill in Carron Grove, Stirlingshire.  This mill was lost in a fire in January 1841, after which he and his family moved to Glasgow.  Four months later his wife Jessie (nee Hart) died, when the youngest child was only 6 months old, leaving Robert with 5 living children from 9 births.  In September 1849 he left from Gravesend for New Zealand.  He was very involved in life of the early community in Auckland - Provincial Accountant and Immigration Officer, J.P., first Provincial Treasurer, farmer, and one obituary said he could be regarded as “in every respect the patriarch of the Church (Anglican) in this diocese”.  He is buried at Devonport.  Two of his children, Robert and Jessie, didn’t marry; Daniel Henderson Lusk married Ellen Harriet Butler; Hugh Hart Lusk married Ellen’s sister Mary Anne Butler; Isabella Mary Lusk married Shirley Whitfield Hill. If you have a connection with this family or would like to know more please contact Geraldine Dunwoodie.
