Robert Casey Pace site -- This web site contain one family history book, "Pace Family History," that includes over 7,500 individuals that are related or possibly related to the authors. This book focuses on the descendants of the author’s oldest proven Pace ancestor, William Pace, Sr. (14). This Pace line originates from Scott County, Virginia and Jackson County, Alabama with many descendants moving to Texas, Indiana, Tennessee, Iowa, Kansas and other southern and midwestern states. Caution--the sections of this book on early Pace history are based on the early Pace bulletins, which contain considerable speculation presented as fact. PROBLEMS AND DOCUMENTS IN PACE RESEARCH - CONFLICTS, DIFFERENCES OF OPINION, EVIDENCE

A general statement and warning: The Pace Network is an ardent supporter of the Pace Society of America. However, early Pace Society research suffered from some problems. There are many errors in the early Pace bulletins. An early editor of the Bulletin sometimes drew conclusions about lineages based on speculation with little or no evidence., then went on to treat those conclusions as established facts. Because these conclusions came from the prestigious Pace Society, they were accepted and included in the lineages of many Pace researchers. They can be found on disks ordered from Family Tree Maker and in lineages filed with the Mormon genealogical services. The so-called Maycock Papers, sold by the Pace Society, were created by this editor and are filled with unsupported assertions including the supposed John of Middlesex lineage from Richard Pace⁽³⁾ of Charles City County ("Richard II") discussed below. The Pace Network stands for accuracy and urges Pace researchers to check all evidence for themselves. Do NOT simply copy someone else's lineage as your own.

-The John Pace of Middlesex County VA vs John Pace of Bertie Precinct, NC problem: - who was the son of Richard and Mary Pace of Charles City County, VA (often referred to as Richard Pace II)? Contradictory lineages have been submitted. Examine the problem and the evidence presently available.
- 7/15/96 NOTE: There is a very interesting discussion between Bruce Howard and Ross Chappell, who traces his lineage to John of Middlesex, regarding the Lane letters and the John Pace lineage .
- 10/28/96 - John of Middlesex descendent Pat Lundy presents some most useful information on research into the Newsome line, and on the requirements for joining the Jamestowne Society.
- Ruth Keys Clark presents some additional material on John of Middlesex and other Pace controversies, and argues that of Richard II's sons, only Richard III went to North Carolina. I have placed her material on this page although it covers other matters also. Jack Pace of Williamsburg also has questions about some of John of Middlesex's descendants.

The webmaster thinks he may be related to John Rolfe who married Pocahontas. This page has information on early Virginia including the complete 1624 census of Jamestown.

Links will be provided frequently to aid in moving around through the material. I need to know if the page is fulfilling these objectives. Your feedback will be appreciated. You have permission to use any material on the Pace Network in any non-commercial way that will be helpful to your family research. That includes copying articles or graphics verbatim. It's not important whether you attribute them to me--I run the Pace network to be helpful, not to gratify my ego. Commercial or for-profit use is prohibited without permission.

I want the Pace Network to be dynamic and interactive--a way for Pace researchers to get in contact with one another, as well as to get information. For that reason, the Network will bear some similarities to a newsgroup. You will be able to post queries and comments. However, unlike a newsgroup, these queries and comments will remain available as long as they are valid. New users will be able to read the queries and comments posted by the very first users. I will monitor these queries and posts and delete any that are no longer valid or to conserve space if necessary. Since we are dealing only with one family I hope this will not be an impossible task.

Purposes of the Pace Network Home Page:

To provide a convenient way for Pace family researchers to contact one another and locate others who are researching interconnecting lines.
To provide information on Pace history. Posting informative articles and fact lists when they are available will accomplish this. Submissions are welcome.
To emphasize accuracy and help to correct errors. There are errors in some of the Pace family listings I have seen and in the submissions printed in the Pace Society Bulletin. Trying to find accurate evidence on these problems is one of the main goals of this page.
To provide helps in genealogy research and links to other genealogical sources.
