The purpose of a separate Italian Pace page is to make it easier for Paces with Italian background to find their ancestors.  Otherwise, with so many English Paces, it would be easy go get buried and lost.

There is an excellent association devoted to that pursuit.  It's called POINT, and you can reach the founder Dr. Thomes Militello, at POINTer01@aol.com for further information.  There is an annual bulletin and anyone of Italian descent may submit queries free of charge.  For a more full description of this organization, click here

Subject: surname "pace"

Really casually I found your website and I thought to write.

I am Bruno Pace from Italy. In Italy there are lot of Pace, in all the country (in the North, in the South, in the Middle). In Italy ours is a fine surname: it means "peace" - may be the originary meanin was "someone who gives peace".

I come from South Sicily. My ancestors - I suppose - lived there (sure from 1800)

Some time ago I have read (but really I don't remember where, therefore I am not so sure about it) that the Pace family comes from Malta. I went to Malta for a trip and I realized that there is this surname also in Malta.

I live at the bottom of Sicily, just in front of Malta and in 1500 in my town was founded order of chivalry (cavaliers) of Malta. But really I can' test it because I don't Know if I had it from a reliable source.

If you know something more about our nice surname, please write back: may be we will realize to be cousins!

Bye

I'm searching for Italian Paces from Galluccio Italy. Here's my story my father was born in Rhode Island Dec 5, 1923. His parents were from Italy they came to the United States in April of 1920 my Grandfather's name was ALDUINO PACE my Grandmother was ROSARIA DOMANICO his birthday was Dec 28 1893 her birthday was Jan 31 1897 Her father was Pasquale Domanico her mother was Francesca Chioto. My Grandfather's Father was CARMINE PACE, his Mother was Sofia Maria Ruggieri besides ALDUINO they had 15 other children 16 altogether. Here are the only names that I know of: ALBERTO ALFREDO, GUIDO, JULIO, PASQUALINA, ALBINA, ANTONETTE, and 1 sister was a nun, the rest of the brothers and sisters I don't know the names I'm some old Italian reads this and knows who these people were and that they are related. I feel strongly that there is family still living back in Italy not knowing that they have descendents out in Calif. What Happened that that Alduino, died in March of 1928, my Father was only 5 yrs old and he had no recollection of his Dad. My Grandmother remarried and I guess that's where she lost contact with the Pace's so my Father never knew anything about his roots on that side of the family and I am trying to do what he wanted, which was to find our Pace's so I hopping that someone who reads this, has heard of these names in there family, cause if you know about your background, and the names and if the names are the same then I would be elated cause I would have finally found my roots to call home!!! Please e-mail me with any kind of info that sounds kind of right So we can get in touch!!! Thank You, Janet Pace Knuutila

Subject: Pace Family of Sgurgola, Italy

We are researching our Italian roots from Sgurgola, Italy. Our grandfather, Americo Pace, was born in
Sgurgola, Italy, October 23, 1893. Americo came to America in 1913. I believe his mother's name was Asunda (spelling?). We would like to know more about the family. What was Americo's father's name? Americo's parents' birth, marriage and death dates? were there any other siblings of Americo besides Pasqua Corsi, his sister who also came from Sgurgola? Both Americo and Pasqua eventually settled in Cortland, New York.

Also, seeking information on our grandmother,
Ada Milani. Ada came to America to marry Americo in December of 1920. Ada was born April 4, 1903 in Roma, Italy. We have no other information on Ada.

Thank you for any information/help you can give us.

Hy Roy, How are You ? I hope you are fine. Sorry to have disappeared for so long, but I have been very busy. So i had no time for my researches. But, from time to time, I am lucky enough to recover some good information. Some months ago I recaived a message from another Pace, aking me to find some information on her relatives, living near potenza in sother Italy. Now I have been quitely unable to earn some information on this branch of the family, until last Week. I was having an ice cream out of a Macv Donald snack bar in Rome, when I received a telephone call. The person on the other side of the phone asked me wht was my name and I answerd Rosario Pace. An old woman (about 55 - 60 years old) from another table ( which was there for her grand doughter birthday ) asked me if I come from naples ans she said also that also her husband's mother was named Pace ans she told me that his husband family came to Naples (where she had some relatives) from a small town near Potenza. (this in brief is what happened) She said me that She was used to say that there were no more than her brother or cousin and her in Naples at that time ( It was about the end of last century ) and we agreed that there was the possibility that we were also relatives. Then, I had to leave, but I have recordered her telephoner number, to ask her more information later, but I haven't still contacted her. Can you please leave a message on the web for this person ( I don't remeber if he was male or female) asking him to contact me to better explain what I have Found ? Another thing I have talked with a genealogical researcher ( One of those guys who work to research family lines ) and he assured me that Pace, in Italy, came from the translation of the Norman name Shaw, O'Shea or O'Shennean, anyway from Scottish or Irish origins. The most important thing is that all the English name like those that I have named have the same origin, the english adaptation of the word Shalom, the typical Hebrew greeetings. I will let you have any further news I learn, In the mean while

Best regard Your Sincerely ROSARIO

My name is Dianne Pace Kennedy. My paternal great-grandfather, Rocco Pace, immigrated to New York with his two brothers Luigi and Vito and a sister named Vincenza. The town of origin is not known although I have been told it was "somewhere between Naples and Salerno". Rocco lived in Little Italy near his brother "Louie", Vito moved to Staten Island and Vincenza married a man by the name of Festa and moved to the Bronx. Don't know if this sounds familiar to anyone but would be interested in any info regarding this family. Dianne lvcablemodem.com

Hy,

my name is Rosario and I write from Naples in Italy. I am 22 years old and I always wanted to know the origins of my family.

I was searching the net for information about my family name and I have luckly found the Pace Homepage.

I have started to search information on the family about two months ago, asking to my parents and relatives, but I found quite nothing becuse most of my relatives are dead.

I am now planning to met my grandfather youngest son, who is still alive, to check all the information about my family branch.

Among the information I have gathered I knows, quite certainly, that my family was not originaries of Naples, but we arrived here quitely a century ago ( at the age of my grandfather's great-grandfather ).

One of the carachteristic of my family is that almost all my grandfather's brothers are very good cooks, holding also some named restaurants here in Naples.

I am also waiting for some information from City archives about any Pace who lived in the city since 1860, but Italian State Archive are very very slow.

If there is anyone with some information about this branch of the family, I would really appreciate all the information he can give me.

In the meanwhile I will continue my reserches to find the family evolution here in Naples and, possibly, in Italy, and I will let you know any news i will gain.

Rosario

[Webmaster: I responded to Rosario and asked some questions, then received the following:]

I am still searching for information about the origin of the italian branch of the family; I have a lot of problem, first because i am a little young, and also because, as I have said to you in the last message, all my grandfather relatives are dead.

Anyway I will continue to search information about my family branch and, please, if you knows of someone there in USA with relatives here in Italy I woula appreciate a lot any piece of information they could send me.

I was already aware of the ancestor cavalier who fights in the Hastings Battle. Some rumors says that the Italian Branch of the Family rosed in the north of Italy, near Milano and Varese.

I have found also connection to the town of Busto Arstizio, but I was unable to verify them.

What I knows about the family name is that it could also be of celtic origins, something like Ap Axius, translated then into the Italian form aP acius, Pace.

This is only a congettural tranformation of the Name, referring to an old tome I have studied, where the autor says that foreign names and Surnames usually were translated in the latinum most similar word. But I am not sure of this, I have to go on with my studies.

I hope that this can help you in same way, and I will let you know any further information I will gain.

Bye

Rosario

My Family By Lora Pace 6B5

Two great people were born in Italy. The first one that was born was a man named Frank that was born into 1884. The other was a woman named Isabella that was born in 1885. As their life went on they have become great lovers. When Isabella became of the age of 23 years old, Frank and Isabella had become married. Isabella and Frank had a daughter named Agnes. As Agnes grew up she too had found a lover in her life. Agnes had met the love her life named Antonio which had basically started the whole Pace family.

Agnes and Antonio had grown up and got married. After a few years of being married Antonio had moved to America and worked a little while he was in America. Antonio had not brought his wife Agnes to America with him from Italy. After a few years of working in America, Antonio had moved back to Italy to be with his wife. Antonio and Agnes stayed in Italy together for a while and after time has passed Antonio and Agnes had a child. They had a little girl and named their child Anna. Now they wanted to go to America . So they brought Anna themselves and went on a big boat in which other people were taking to see and visit America. They had token the boat and got dropped off around somewhere near Philadelphia. This was the beggining of a whole new family. After times past Agnes and Antonio had more kids. Actually Agnes and Antonio had 8 more kids. Anna was the only one born in Italy though. Together they had 9 kids total. Their names were Anna, Lena, Jimmy, Phillip, Tony, Mike, Jaye, Emma, and Betty. While supporting all these kids Antonio worked at Bethlehem Steel. Agnes had a cart she transported as she sold fresh produce grown in her garden. She was quite a businesswoman. She saved some money and purchased several properties, many of whick remain in the Pace family untill today.

Gary Pace 256 N. York st Pottstown, Pa 19464 My father was Jaye E. Pace,Son of Antonio and Agnes. Married to Jane,4 children.1 grand child. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister

I am in search of ROSE PACE's parents. The information that I have is that she was born in Isnello, Sicily, Italy on 1 Jan 1834. She died on 13 Nov 1921 in LeRoy, Genesee Co., NY. She married Giuseppe Cocciniglia/Corcimiglia who was born in 1817 in Isnello, Sicily, Italy. Are all of the Paces in your database of English descent?  Regards, John Forti

jforti@stlnet.com or  jforti@juno.com

Webmaster response:  So far most are of English descent, but we welcome all queries. The root for the name is the same in English and Italian:  The Latin word for "Peace". It is interesting to me that the English name Pace ended up exactly the same as the Italian although the Latin is from which it is derived is slightly different. The Italian word "pace" (meaning "peace") is pronounced "pah-chee" or something similar. The Latin word for Peace is "Pax", pronounced "Pox".  So the English spelled it the same as the Italians, but pronounced it differently.

Susan Cissne-Perry Dunn trace their (probable) Italian Pace ancestors

In much earlier queries, Susan Cissne and Perry Dunn, representatives of two branches of a Pace family who believe they descend from Italian lineage, found one another on the Pace Network and reunited two branches of this family who have been out of touch since the early 20th century.  For this fascinating story, you can click here to go to Susan Cissne's query then click to follow the thread of their communication from there.  Here is Perry's explanation:

According to the elder Paces in my family, our ancestors came to America through England, originally from Italy. Family legend states that three or four Pace brothers came over, and that they were descended from an Italian soldier who fought for Napoleon. His name is variously described as being Pacetti or Pacelli. Any ideas on this one?

Family legend also states that of the three (or four) brothers, one settled in Texas (O. D., or his father), and the others settled along the eastern seaboard. Of course, none of this is hard and cold fact at the moment.

[Because the Italian connection is not proved, the main body of this query will be carried on the regular Queries page and linked to the click-to above.  Also, because this lineage is so old, many descendents might now know of their Italian background, so it needs to be posted in both places. -Webmaster]
