Andrew Turek, Local Resident, 72, Died Suddenly Saturday
Andrew Turek, aged 72 years, one of Fayette City's
most widely known citizens and a business man
of the borough for many years, died suddenly at his home in Nauvoo Hollow,
Saturday, December 31, 1932, at 3:30 o' clock p.m. Mr. Turek had
complained to his wife Saturday morning of not feeling
very well but made several trips down town
and at 3 o'clock in the afternoon went to the post office
for the mail. Returning to his home he rested in
a lower room for a short time and then went
upstairs to his bedroom where he removed his shoes and
apparently attempted to undress but laid down on the bed
only partly disrobed. Mrs. Turek, feeling anxious about her
husband's condition went to his room and found him very weak.
She at once summoned Dr. B. L. Stollar, but as
the doctor reached the bedside Mr. Turek's
life ebbed away. A heart attack is assigned
as the cause of death, according to the attending physician,
and Deputy Coroner James W. Davidson, who
was summoned to view the remains. A short
service was held at the Turek home Tuesday afternoon,
January 3, at 2:30 o'clock and later in the afternoon an additional
service was held in the Greek Catholic Church in Monessen, with the
Rev. Mr. Morris, of the church officiating.
Interment was in the family burying plot in the Greek Catholic cemetery
at Pricedale.
Mr. Turek was born
December 1,1860, at Buda-pest, Austria-Hungary and came to this country
when quite a young man, taking out citizenship papers as soon
as eligible. He was married in Charleroi in 1902 to Sophia
Shesniak, of that city.
Mr. Turek had been a resident of Fayette City
since 1895 and following his marriage, he and his wife took up their residence
here and Mr. Turek conducted a grocery and meat market for
several years and then he went to Morgantown, W. Va., where
he conducted a hotel and restaurant from 1923 to
1926, returning to Fayette City, in 1929
he retired from active work.
Deceased was a graduate of the Budapest
Military Academy and a commissioned officer in the Imperial Guards
for 16 years.
He leaves to mourn his loss, a
widow, Mrs. Sophia Shesniak Turek and the following children: Mrs.
Mary Missouri, of Detroit, Mich.: Mrs.
Charles A. DeVere, of New York City.: John Turek, Charleroi:
Mrs. J. B. Wieshaar, New York City: Michael
Turek, Gillespie, George, Theodore, Sophia, Martha, Andrew
Jr., Margarite, Alexander and Catherine, all at home:
