Marcellus Q. Curry (Submitted by Ryan Kennedy)

Elizabeth Herald: July 9 1899
Marcellus Q. Curry died at his home just north of this borough on Tuesday July 4, 1899, aged 71 years. Mr. Curry was born in
Virginia but came to the Monongahela Valley early in life. He learned the trade of carpenter and builder giving special attention
to the framing of heavy structures, such as, railroad trestle, coal tipples, inclines, ect., and was probably the best known man in
that work along the Monongahela for the past forty years, having built a great many of these structures in that time. In the fall of
1859, when Horner & Roberts mine was opened here, he was living at Six Mile Ferry(now Hays), but came here from there
with William Billingsley Sr., and they both engaged on that work, moving their families here and becoming residents of the
place, which both families have since remained. Mr. Curry was married to Miss Lucinda Woodford of Jefferson Twp, who
survives him with eight children namely, Miss Josephine of Philadelphia, Henry of McKees Rocks, John W. of Dravosburg,
Mrs Charles Kennedy of Walton Station, Lawrence of Iowa, Mrs. George Moore of West Elizabeth, Minnie and Callie at
home. Mr Curry was a quiet and unobtrusive man, well informed on matters of the day and a good citizen. His last sickness
dates from a severe attack of grip contracted while building a coal tipple last winter. He was able to be out afterwards, but
other complications ensued, causing a gradual decline. The funeral was Thursday afternoon, burial at Elizabeth.
