Mrs.  Rose Ann Anders,  63, died yesterday at 8:30 p.m. at her home, Union St., New Eagle.
     Mrs. Anders was born in New Eagle, Dec. 3, 1898. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Monongahela.
     Surviving are three sons; Vincent of Dennison, Tex. John of North Charleroi and Kenneth of Rapid City, S. D.; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Eileen) Soltis, New Eagle; a brother,  James McLaughlin of Monongahela; two sisters, Mrs. James Trich of New Eagle and Margaret  McLaughlin  of  Pittsburgh;  11 grandchildren.
     Friends will be received at Bebout and Yohe Co.  Funeral home, Monongahela,  after  7 o'clock this evening

     Edward A. Armsey, aged 40 years, died at the home of his brother-in-law, Dr. P. A. Ley, February 26th at 7 a.m.  Mr. Armsey had returned recently from a business trip to Oklahoma for the Donora Southern Railway and immediately took ill.  He was taken to the home of Dr. P. A. Ley where he was compelled to remain.  Funeral services were conducted this morning at 8:30 o’clock by Rev. Henry Geibel at the St. Charles Church.  Interment was made in St. Domenic’s Cemetery.  He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth Armsey and three children, John, Fred and Mary.

WILLIAM BUCKHOLT  (Valley Independent - March 30, 1962)

     William Buckholt, 57, of 513 Liberty Ave., North Charleroi, died in the West Penn
Hospital, Pittsburgh today at 4 a.m..
     He was born in Toronto, Ohio, Jan.. 10, 1905, the son of Charles and Christina Allen
Buckholt. He was employed at the Allenport plant of the Pittsburgh Steel Co.,
     He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Charleroi and was an honorary member of
the Charleroi Fire Dept.
     Survivors are his widow, Grace Goshorn Buckholt, one son, Sgt. William G. Buckholt,
stationed in Albuquerque, NM, with the U.S. Army;  one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Elizabeth)
Berton, Canonsburg, one brother,  James  R. Buckholt, a sister, Mrs. Edward Dopler,
Charleroi, and two grandchildren.
     Friends will be received at the Harold  L.  Schrock  Funeral Home, Charleroi, after 7 ~.m.,
Saturday.

     Mrs. Lena Weaver Bush, 86, of Bentleyville, died yesterday at 1:50 a.m. at the Pine Lawn Nursing home in Houston.
     She was born April 12, 1875, in Coal Center.
     Mrs. Bush was a charter member of the Daughters of American Pioneers, Bentleyville, and a member of the Bentleyville Presbyterian Church, the Mon Valley Daughters of the American, Revolution, the Daughters of Union Veterans, Washington, Ginger Hill Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary of  Monongahela.
     Her husband, Harry L. Bush, preceded her in death, March 21, 1956.
     Surviving are one son, Weaver L. Bush of Ashland, Mass.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
     Friends will be received at the John B. Greenlee Funeral home, 503 Washington St.,
Bentleyville, after 7 p.m. today.

CLARE ZIMMERMAN CAMPBELL  (Valley Independent - March 20, 1962)
     Mrs. Clare Zimmerman Campbell, 78, of 100 Alexander Ave., Fisher Hts., Monongahela, died at her home yesterday at 6:45 p.m.
     She was born in New York City, Feb. 24, 1884, the daughter of Christian and Mary Zimmerman.
     She was a member of the St. Jerome R. C. Church of Charleroi, the Sacred Heart League, and the Catholic Daughters of America, Punxsutawney.
     Preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas J. Campbell, she is survived by three sons, Atty. Nicholas J. Campbell, New York City, Francis W., Mt. Lebanon and the Rev. Gerard J. Campbell, S. J. Baltimore, Md., one daughter Mrs. Paul E. (Margaret) Norton, Fisher Hts., one sister, Mrs.Frank X. (Marie) Bucheit, St. Mary’s, Pa., and seven grandchildren.

    Mrs. Mary Ann Carlysle, aged 78, died at 5 o¹clock Friday morning, April 8, 1938 at her home in 503 Fifth avenue, Brownsville, after a brief illness.  She was the widow of Wilson W. Carlysle and a lifelong resident of Brownsville.
    Mrs. Carlysle was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Hurst of Brownsville.  Surviving are the following children: Mrs. W.K. Thompson, Brownsville; Mrs. Frank Sproull, Springdale; Mrs. Benjamin Gambill, Wellsburg, W. Va.; Frank L of Wilkinsburg; James R of Washington D.C.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
     Friends will be received at the Ross Funeral Home in Brownsville where funeral services will be conducted at 3 o¹clock Sunday afternoon.
     Reverend Maurice P. McKay, pastor of the Donora St. John¹s Episcopal church will be in charge.  Burial will follow in Redstone Cemetery.

    Wilson Carlysle of Brownsville, died Wednesday afternoon. July 3, 1929, at 2 o¹clock in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Gambill of Steubenville, Ohio, after a brief illness.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o¹clock in the Christ Episcopal church, Brownsville, with the Rev. J. Phillip Jung officiating.  Burial will be in Redstone cemetery.
    Mr. Carlysle is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Carlysle; three daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Gambill, Mrs. W. K. Thompson of South Brownsville, Mrs. Frank Sproull of Uniontown, and two sons, James Carlysle of Brownsville and Frank Carlysle of Pittsburgh.

     Michael Cesovski Sr., 80, of 1432 Maple Ave.; Monessen, died yesterday at 1:30 p.m. in Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital following an illness of several months.
     He was born Oct. 9, 1895, in Galicia,  Ukraine and had resided in Monessen most of his life. Mr. Cesovski was a retired employee of the Wire Mill Department at the Monessen Plant of Wheeling - Pittsburgh Steel Corp since 1959. He was a  member. of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church  of Monessen  and Ukrainian  Political  and Beneficial Association.
     He was preceded in death by a son. Cpl. George Cesovski, in December, l951.
     He is survived by his widow, Julia Slivka Cesovski; two sons, Michael Cesovski Jr. of Monessen, and John  J. Cesovski,  at home;  two daughters,  Mrs.  Andrew (Helen) Karch of Donora and Mrs. Richard (Betty) Gardner of Monessen; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
     Friends will be  received in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home in Monessen from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

 "Peter Augustine Clintner, pioneer resident of this city [McKeesport],  passed away at his home, 539 West Fifth Avenue, at 4:30 this morning  [1-1-1926]. Death was due to hardening of the arteries.  He had been ill for  two weeks. Mr. Clintner was one of the best known residents of this district  and had lived in this city and Dravosburgh (sic) all his life. He was 78  years old. For many years he had been engaged in the stone contracting  business but had retired from that business some time ago. His wife, Mrs.  Sophia Clintner, died two years ago.  Surviving him are the following: four  sons, John and Michael of Glassport; Charles at home, and Peter of this city;  two daughters, Mrs. John Lang of McKees Rocks and Mrs. Daniel C. Boteler at  home; one brother, Frank W. Clintner of Dravosburg; three sisters, Anna  Clintner of Dravosburg, Mary Hollihan of Dravosburg and Mrs. J. F. Gannon of  this city; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral services  will be held from St. Peter's R.C. Church Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock  with Rev. P.J. O'Connor officiating.  Interment will be in old St. Joseph's  Cemetery."

   Mrs. Peter N. [sic] Clintner:  Sophia CLintner, aged 74 years, wife of Peter  N. [sic] Clintner of 539 ...* Fifth Avenue, died last evening at 6 o'clock at  the family home after an illness of three months from *...e [chronic]  nephritis.  Mrs. Clintner was born in Germany, but had resided in *...lty and  in Dravosburg for the past *...0 years, and was well and favorably known.
   Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons and two daughters, John W.  Clintner of Glassport; Charles J., Michael and Peter Clintner at home; Mrs.  John Lang of *...s Rocks [McKees Rocks ?] and Mrs. Daniel Boatner [sic] of  Atlanta, GA.; also by four brothers and one sister, Ferdinand *... of  Monongahela City; John *... of Coal Valley; William Weyel of *...staburg,  [Saltsburg?], PA. and George Weyel and Mrs. John Evans of Dravosburg, PA. and  by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.  The funeral services  will  be held Saturday morning at 9am with a solemn high mass of ... at St. Peter's  R.C. W. B. CLYMER DEAD.
One if Monessen’s Leading Citizens Passes Away

  W. B. Clymer, a prominent contractor of this city, who has been battling for life for the past three weeks with a severe attack of typhoid fever, succumbed to the ravages of that dread disease at his home on Reed avenue, this morning at 12:30 o’clock.  Mr. Clymer was in the 33rd year of his age and leaves a wife and four children, besides his mother, brother and four children to mourn their loss.
  He was born and raised in Garardford, Green county, where he spent most of his life until coming to this city three years ago.
  On October 21, 1891 he was happily united in marriage to Miss Gerty Mauer, to which union there was added four children Russell, aged 10 years past; Raymond, aged 8; Blanche, aged 5 and Alma, aged 2 years.  Mr. Clymer had a host of friends and was well and favorably known.  He was prominent in lodge circles and a member of Monessen lodge, Royal Arcanuin, in which he carried insurance.
  The sympathy of the community is extended to the family and Mrs. Clymer in their sad bereavement.
  Funeral services will take place from his late home at 11 o’clock a. m., Thursday, interment at Belle Vernon cemetery.

   Mrs. Margaret Copeland died this morning a 3 o'clock at her home in  Versailles township, near the pike.  She had been in poor health for some  time, suffering from a complication of ailments.  She formerly resided at  Boston, PA. and was well known in this city.
   Mrs. Copeland was 63 years old and leaves a family of ten children, namely,  Mrs. William Fleming, Mrs. Adam Sterner, Joseph and Abner Copeland, Mrs.  Amanda Young, Mrs. Patrick Lamb, Mrs. David Serena, Mrs. Walter Jury, Frances  and Thomas Copeland.
   The funeral will take place Monday afternoon; interment at Mt. Vernon Church  Cemetery.

     Mrs. Anna L. Corwin, aged about 38 years, wife of Dennis Corwin of Huston Run, died at the Mercy Hospital, February 23d at 6:30 a. m.  The body was brought to her late home Saturday evening where funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Church of Transfiguration, conducted by Father Walsh.  Interment was made in the Calvary Cemetery.

RENA McKEEVER DAUGHERTY  (Valley Independent - April   2, 1962)
     Mrs. Rena McKeever Daugherty Of 419 Graham St., Belle Vernon,  died in the Charleroi Monessen Hospital, Saturday at 6:40 p.m.
     She was born in Rostraver Township, Jan.11, 1893, and had resided In Belle Vernon over 30 years.
She is survived: by two sons, William R. of Fontana, Calif., Charles E., Monessen, one daughter,  Mrs. Bernadine Fitzgerald, Detroit, Mich.;  three brothers, Lewis of Belle Vernon, Walter of Mansfield, Ohio, and Robert McKeever, Belle Vernon, three sisters, Mrs. George  (Martha) Sauers, Monrovia, Calif., Mrs. Adam (Inez) Walters, Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Irwin (Janet) Maple, Coraopolis. Nine  grand-children and six great grandchildren also survive.
    Friends will be received at the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home, Belle Vernon.

    Richard Dawson 70, Fallowfleld Ave., Charleroi, died today at 3:55 a.m. in Charleroi Monessen
    Hospital after suffering a heart attack
    He was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, May 18, 1891.
    Surviving are his widow, Mary Tolan Dawson; one son, Clarence of Monongahela: one daughter, Charlotte at home: one sister, Mrs. Anna Lax of' Brilliant, Ohio; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
    Friends are being received at the Howard W. McCrory Funeral home in Fayette City.

     Clifford O. Donaldson, 68, of 224  Liberty Ave.,  Belle Vernon, died  yesterday at 4:20 p.m. at Eye and Ear Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long illness.
     He was born in Vesta on Sept 16 1907, a son of the late James N. and Edith Dale Donaldson;
     Mr.  Donaldson  was  a member of Charleroi Elks Lodge 494 and  Garibaldi Lodge of Dunlevy. He is a past secretary treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 1561 in Fairhope. A  former resident of Dunlevy, Mr. Donaldson had lived in Belle Vernon the past 17 years. He retired six years ago from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp.        .
     Preceding him in death were two sons, Clifford in 1947 and Clifton in 1960.
     Survivors include his wife, Rite Bieneman Donaldson; two sons, James A. and Michael A., both at home;  two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Edith)  Cooper of Charleroi R.D. 2 and Mary B at home; a brother, James F  Donaldson of Bridgeville; and  four grandchildren

STEPHEN DOYLE (Contributed by Mary Fey)

Stephen Doyle, 72, husband of Catherine Doyle, of Camden Heights, Mifflin Township, died today at 5 a.m. in a Pittsburgh Hospital.  Death was caused by cerebral thrombosis and following a lingering illness.  He was a member of Council No. 141, Junior O. U. A. M.
   Surviving beside his wife is one son, George F. Doyle of Camden Heights and the following brothers and sister: John and Charles Doyle of McKeesport, Alexander Doyle of Dravosburg and Mrs. May Gilzhiser of McKeesport.
   He was born in Webster, Pa., July 31, 1854.
   Friends will be received at the home of his son, George P. Doyle, Camden Heights, Mifflin Township, until Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at which time funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Francis I. Woollett.  Burial will follow in Versailles Cemetery.

Jacob F. Hannan (Donora American - June 21, 1915)

WELL KNOWN COAL CENTRE MAN DIES
     Jacob F. Hannan, aged 72 years, died at his home at Coal Centre Sunday evening at eleven o’clock from a complication of diseases.  Mr. Hannan had been a lifelong resident of Coal Centre and is a well known and highly respected citizen of the community.  He had been in failing health for some time.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. F. Hannan, two daughters, Mrs. James Pepper of California and Mrs. Iva Campbell at home and two sons, Hannan Hannan and Henry Hannan both of Charleroi.  One sister, Mrs. Jane Stroud, of Charleroi and three brothers, John Hannan of Ohio, Hiram Hannan, of Maple Creek and Henry Hannan of Coal Centre also survive.  He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and the First Christian church of California.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the late home, by Rev. E. N. Duty, pastor of the First Christian church of Charleroi.  Interment will be in Howes cemetery.

Glenn G. Herron
     Glenn G. Herron, 65, of Coal Center R.D. 1, Long Branch Borough, died Monday, Jan. 9, 1989, at 7:55 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital.
     He was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Long Branch.
     Mr. Herron was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church.
     A lifelong resident of Long Branch, he was also a member of the Long Branch Grange.
     He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Herron, on Sept. 11 , 1973, and his mother, Marjory Ruth Phillips Herron, on May 20, 1956.
     Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Genevieve) Morton of Coal Center, with whom he made his home for the last 15 years, Mrs. Walter (Mary Eleanor) Rockwell Jr. of Carroll Twp. and Mrs. James (Norva) Lewis of Belle Vernon; one brother, Harold Herron Sr. of Charleroi;  and many nieces and nephews.
     Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon.
 

Bert McKinley Irwin (From The Monessen Independent Dec. 24, 1902)

Bert M. Irwin Died at Nine Thirty This Morning.
     This morning at 9:30, City Engineer Bert M. Irwin, who has been lying at death’s door for some time, quietly passed into the great beyond.
     Bert M. Irwin was born at Sunnyside, Allegheny County, Pa., where he grew to manhood and where he received a common school education.  He afterward attended the academy at Monongahela City from which institution he was graduated in 1894.
     Following this, Mr. Irwin taught school in his native town for several years and then entered the Normal University at Ada, Ohio.  Here in 1899 he graduated in the Civil Engineering department with the highest honors of his class.
     On completing his education at Ada, Ohio, he came directly to Monessen and has ever since taken an active part in the public affairs and has been prominently identified with the growth and progress of our city.  He was civil engineer of the borough of Monessen at the time of his death, which position he has filled with credit to himself and satisfaction to all concerned.  Mr. Irwin was also engineer of the East Side Land company and had extensive interests in Monessen.  He was a young man of sterling qualities and his wide circle of friends will be pained to learn of his early demise.
     On September 10, Bert M. Irwin and Miss Margaret Wiggins were united in marriage at the home of the brides parents in Fayette County and the two started out in life with all promise of a brilliant and useful career, but in the midst of life we__  in death.  and He who doeth all things for the best, saw fit to separate their union.  Besides a wife, Mr. Irwin leaves a mother, two sisters and five brothers to mourn his loss.  Deceased was a constant member of the U. B. church at Elizabeth.  Up until the time of going to press the funeral arrangements had nt been made.

Mrs. Matilda (Tillie) Jane Martin Jenkins, 83, of Conneaut Lake, Geneva, died yesterday in Meadville City Hospital.  Born in Brownsville, Feb. 27, 1891, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Mary E. Meese Hertzog.  A former Clairton resident, she was a member of First Christian Church of Meadville.
   Widow of William Jenkins, she is survived by daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sargent of Clairton, Mrs. Emma Carr of Meadville and Mrs. Lida Marin of Geneva; sons, LeRoy Martin of Port Vue, Willard Martin of Elizabeth Twp., Wallace Martin of Jamestown and George Martin of Clairton; stepdaughters, Mrs. Martha Yoder and Mrs. Ines Phillips of Brownsville; 21 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren.
   Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the John F. Matz Funeral Home, Clairton.  Services will be conducted there Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. E.L. Russell and burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery.

Paul J. Jordan, 31, of 129 Maple S., Muse, died yesterday in Jefferson Center. A former area resident, he was a graduate of Elizabeth-Forward High School, attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was a member of Bible Baptist Temple in Jefferson where he was active in church music and served as a Sunday School  teacher.

Son of the Rev. Glenn R. and Thelma claire Stewart Jordan of Jefferson, he was born in Emporia, Kan. July 10. 1951. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Diana Bushmire Jordan, daughters Rebecca Jean of Port Charlotte, Fla and Melissa Lee at home, sisters Judith Samuelson and Beth Sprankle of Lynchburg, Va., Ruth Wong of Berea, KY., and Mary Piatt of Old Mystic, Conn., and brothers John Jordan of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Roger of Marysville, Ohio.

Friends will be received from noon to 9 pm tomorrow in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Wlizabeth. Service will be conducted Monday at noon in the Bible Baptist Temple by Pastor John Smith.      Pearl Burk Kafkalas of. Harrisburg died Saturday in Blue Ridge Haven Convalescent Home East,. Harrisburg. She was 86.
     Mrs. Kafkalas was born In Marionette Wis., on Feb 25 1897,  and was a resident of  Monessen from 1919 until l977.
     She was a member of St. Paul: Lutheran Church  Monessen.
     She was preceded in death by her husband,. Peter N. Kafkalas, on March 12, 1959.

     Lawrence A. Kibler, 47. of 1015 Lincoln Ave., Charleroi, died in Charleroi - Monessen
Hospital at 2:40 p.m.. yesterday, April 11.
He was born in North Charleroi on June 10, 1915 the son of James J. and Sarah Ann
McClelland Kibler. Mr. Kibler was a member of the First Christian Church of Charleroi and the
Third St. French Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Masten Phillips Kibler, three sons, Lawrence Jr., John
and Robert Kibler, and one daughter Pauline Kibler, at home; two stepsons James Phillips and

Mrs. Anna Kuvinka, 76, mother of Monessen Police Chief Michael Kuvinka, died yesterday at
2:45 p.m. at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital.
Mrs. Kuvinka, who resided at 916 Schoonmaker Ave., Monessen, lived in Monessen the past 46
years. At one time, Mrs. Kuvinka and, her husband, John, who died in 1959, operated a grocery

   Mrs. Kuvinka was a member of St. John The Divine Russian Orthodox Church, St. John Ladies
Altar Guild and United Russian Orthodox Brotherhood  of American Ladies Lodge 4.
Besides son Michael,  Mrs. Kuvinka is survived by four other sons, John of Yonkers, N Y,
Andrew of Monessen, Paul of North Charleroi, and George of California; one daughter, Mrs.
Edward (Anne) Roberts at home, 16 grand children and eight great grandchildren, a brother and
sister, both in Europe.
    Friends are being received at Check’s Home for Funerals, Monessen from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10
p.m.

    Phillip Anthony Lopresti, Jr., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Phiilip Anthony Lopresti, Sr., of 614 Oneida St., Monessen,  died Saturday at 6:02 p.m., several minutes after birth.
    Besides his parents he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Lopresti of Monessen, and maternal grandparents,  Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brandeburg of Charleroi.
    Funeral services were held today at 1 p.m. at the R. A. Billick Fineral Home in Monessen with the Very Rev. Nunzlo Pirulli, pastor of St. Cajetan R. C. Church, Monessen, officiating. interment followed in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
 

Orpheus Alonzo Lynch, 81, died this morning at 12:20 o'clock at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Stephen Doyle, 10 Richland Avenue, Dravosburg, with whom he made his home.  He was born on February 13, 1950, in the former borough of Reynoldton, the son of the late Nelson and Mary M. Kuntz-Lynch.  He was the husband of the late Mrs. Katherine Lynch.
   Surviving are four sons and three daughters, William Lynch of Maringo, Iowa; Nelson J. Lynch of Pittsburgh; John Lynch of Steubenville, Oh; Samuel Lynch of Hollidays Cove, W. Va; Mrs. Neil Carrick and Mrs. Margaret Connors, both of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Stephen Doyle of Dravosburg; by 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; also by three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Huhiur (sic) and Mrs. Jefferson Bradley, both of Donora and Mrs. Laura Dickey of Monongahela.
   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Peter's R.C. church in charge of Rev. P. J. O'Connor.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Elizaeth.

   Mrs. Rachel Copeland MARKLAND, 77, Heckmann Rd. R.D. #1, McKeesport, died  today [Monday] at 10:30 am at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Irene Clintner  of 831 Ohio Ave., Glassport.
   Mrs. Markland was born on May 9, 1868 in Boston [PA.]  She is survived by her  husband, William Markland; her daughter, Mrs. Clintner; a sister, Mrs. Lydia  Jury of Herminie; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
   Friends will be received at the V. Dumas Funeral Home, Glassport until 8:15 on Thursday.  A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Glassport with the Rev. W. A. O'Hara officiating."

An addenda to this obit was added the next day in the Daily News: " ... the  names of two brothers, Thomas and Abner Copeland of Hartford, Connecticut   were omitted from the list of survivors ...

William 'Butch' Magee MARKLAND (Contributed by Cora Ott)

   Services for William Markland, 94, of 3617 Sherbine Way, White Oak were held today [Sept. 7, 1969].  Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery, McKeesport.  Arrangements were in charge of the Willig Funeral Home. Mr. Markland died Saturday in the John J. Kane Hospital, Scott Township.  He was born Dec. 10, 1874 in Pitsburgh, a son of the late William and Anna  Markland.  He was the husband of the late Rachel Frances Copeland Markland,  and his only survivors are his nieces, Mrs. Isabel Dean* of Port Vue and Mrs.  Eva Smith of McKeesport."

Leroy Fredrick Martin, 64, of 417 Pasadena Drive, Port Vue, died yesterday at home.  Born in Brownsville, Oct. 25, 1910, he was a battery foreman in Clairton plant, U.S. Steel Corp., a member of Port Vue United Methodist Chruch and past president of the Lost Chord Club of Pittsburgh.
   Surviving are his widow, Mary Montressa (Mona) Martin; daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Fey of Plum and Mrs. Rose Marie Klacik of Glassport; sons, Willard L. Martin of Lincoln Place and Merle D. of Clairton; stepdaughters, Norma J. Laughner at home, Mrs. Phyllis Ferree of McKeesport and Mrs. Eileen Bossi of Gales Ferry, Conn.; stepsons, Richard Laughner of Bridgeport, Conn., Warren Laughner of McKeesport and Clyde Laughner of North Versailles Twp.; 27 grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sargent of Clairton, Mrs. Emma Carr of Meadville and Mrs. Lida Marin of Geneva; and brothers, Willard Martin of Elizabeth Twp., Wallace Martin of Jamestown, and George Martin of Clairton.
   Friends will be received after 7 p.m today in the Willig Funeral Home.  Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m in the Port Vue United Methodist Church with the Rev. E. Phillip Wilson officiating.  Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.

MRS. TERESA MARTIN  (Contributed by Mary Fey)

   Mrs. Teresa M. Martin, 47, of 417 Pasadena Drive, Port Vue, died today in her home.
   Friends are to be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. starting tonight, in the J. Sam Whetsel Funeral Home, Clairton, where services will be conducted by the Rev. J. Earl Reed on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by interment in Jefferson Memorial Park.
   Mrs. Martin was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Homestead, daughter of Mrs. Jennie Lynch Doyle of Homestead and the late Stephen Doyle.  She had resided in Glassport and for the past ten years, in Port Vue, and was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glassport.
   Survivors include her husband, Leroy F. Martin; her mother; two daughters Mrs. Mary Louise Fey of McKeesport and Miss Rose Marie Martin at home; two sons, Willard Martin of Lincoln Place and Merle Duane Martin at home; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Jean Kartalia of Homestead.

MARTHA MASON  (Valley Independent - March 30, 1962)
     Martha Mason, 83, of 717 Allen Ave., Donora, died at her home yesterday at 11:45 p.m. following a lingering illness.
     Born in Abbington, Va. on July 1, 1878, she had resided in Donora for the past 10 years.  She previously lived in Monessen.
     She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donora.
     Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Washington  and Mrs. Daisy Armstrong of Roanoke, Va.;  two grandchildren, Mrs. Sherman (Hazel) Ramey of Donora, and Harry  Reed  of Youngstown, O.
     Friends are being; received at the Percy Law Funeral Home, 1324 Meldon Ave., Donora,
after 7 p.m. today.

 A. Forrest Moreland
     A. Forrest Moreland, 88, of California, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1989, in the Azorski Boarding Home, California.
     He was born March 31, 1901, in Paraville, Mich., a son of the late Forrest and Mae Burpee Moreland.
     Mr. Moreland was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church.
     He had been employed as a construclion worker and an engineer.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Latta Moreland.
     Survivors includc nieces and nephews.
     There will he no public visitation. A memorial service will he held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Roscoe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Carson officiating.
     Melenyzer Funeral Inc., Roscoc, is in charge of arrangements.
 

MRS. RUTH HOUGH OWENS  (Valley Independent - April    1962)
     Mrs. Ruth Hough Owens, 64, of R. D. 1. Fayette City, died suddenly yesterday,, 3:30 p.m., at her late home.
     She was born in Fayette City,  July 11, 1897, and was a member of  the Fayette City Christian Church.
     Surviving are her husband, William C Owens; four daughters, Mrs. Lee (Betty) Barnes of Fayette City, Mrs. Millard (Virginia) Book of R. D. 1, Fayette City, Mrs. Emil (Edith) Panzo and Mrs. Ellsworth (Mary Ellen) Wilkinson, both of Belle Vernon; four sons, William James, Robert Ewing,  and Richard Aland Owens, all at home, and Herbert Negley Owens of Fayette City. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. George (Florence) Massey of Connellsville  Mrs.  Robert (Phyllis) Croushore  and  Mrs. James (Beatrix) Welsh, both of Belle Vernon and Mrs. Emery Hellen) Loar of Lajunga, Calif.; three brother  Herbert Hough of Cleveland, Ohio,  Negley Hough of Avon Lake, Ohio and David Hough, of Fayette City;  thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

 LUCILLE PHELPS  (Valley Independent - April  18, 1962)
    Mrs.  Lucille Phelps, 41, of Pricedale, died in the Charleroi Monessen Hospital, Monday  at 7:15 p.m. following an illness of three days.
    She was born in Wyco, W. Va., April 22, 1921, the daughter of James and Susie Newbill.
    She came to this area in 1929 from West Virginia, and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church of Belle Vernon.
    She is survived by her by her husband Curtis Phelps, two sons, Ronald and Henry at home, three daughters, Yvonne, Vicki and Toni, at home, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Newbill, two brothers, Oscar of Pricedale and Ollie Newbill, Duarte, Calif., four sisters Mrs. Grace Cook, Pricedale, Margaret  Newbill, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Estella  Reed, Monessen, and Maggie of  Rochester N.Y.
     Friends will be received at the William R. Taylor Funeral Home, 87 Dawson Ave., North Charleroi.

 Benjamin Phillips
     Benjamin David Phillips of Coal Center R.D. 1 died Saturday, June 24, 1989, in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 81.
     Mr. Phillips was born Sept.26, 1907, in Charleroi, a son of the late William and Norva Jane Crow Phillips.
     He was a retired foreman at the No. 3 hot mill in the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation 5 Allenport plant.
     Mr. Phillips was a member of Mount Tahor United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 461 of California, the Shriners and Pleasant Valley Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the board of directors of Howe Cemetery.
     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Herron; two brothers, Robert and Wilbur Phillips; and by a grandchild, Garnet Gene Cullen.
     Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Watson Phillips; three daughters, Carol Thompson of Waynesburg, Norva Gene Cullen of Laurel, Md., and Garnet Storez of Greencastle; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Phillips of Long Branch; and four sisters, Martha Clark of Barton, Fla., Alice Stockton and Janet Sedlak, both of Long Branch, and Helen Harper of Nebraska.
     Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe.

MARTHA RELICH (Valley Independent - March 30, 1962)
     Mrs. Martha Relich, 48, of 840 Hill St., Belle Vernon, died in the  Charleroi-Monessen Hospital, today at 5:45 a.m.
     She was born in Ellsworth, Sept. 12, 1913.
     She moved from Monessen to Belle Vernon nineteen years ago, She was a member of the St. Nicholas Russian Church of Marianna and the Ladies Aid Society of the church.
     Survivors are her husband, Mark Relich, Sr., two sons, Mark Jr., and Robert, both at home, one brother, Alec Krupen, Cheswick, Pa., two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Young of New Kensington and Mrs. Verna Scopel,,  Curtisville, Pa.
     Friends will be received at the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral home,  Belle Vernon,  after 1 p.m., Saturday.

IRVEN S. ROCKWELL  (Valley Independent - April   , 1962)
    Irven S. Rockwell, a former resident of Charleroi and North Charleroi, died yesterday morning at his home at 1107 Market St.. Meadville, following a cerebral hemorrhage.
    He was, born near Uniontown the son of Asa Miller and Eva Sembower Rockwell. He moved to Charleroi when a young man and was employed at the Macbeth Glass Works, now Corning Glass Works.
    Years ago he operated a grocery store in North Charleroi.
    He was married to Minna Dorbitz Roupe of Charleroi, and when he and his family moved to Meadville, be followed the carpenter trade. He retired several years ago.
     Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Minna Rockwell, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. William (Alverda) Kessler of South Daytona, Fla., Mrs. Wesley (Irene) Coulter, Mrs. Donald (Edna)  Buttray, Frank Rockwell of Meadville, and Ralph Rockwell of Elizabeth, two brothers and two sisters, Allen B. Rockwell of Mentone, Calif., Walter S. Rockwell, Charleroi, Mrs. Elizabeth Robison of  Charleroi R. D., and Mrs. Mamie Clutter of North Charleroi.
    Friends will be received at the Kennedy Funeral home, Baldwin St., Meadville.

ELSIE CROW ROSS

     Word has been received here of the death of Elsie Crow Ross, 78, of Kingwood, W. Va., a former Charleroi resident, who died last Friday in Preston Memorial hospital at Kingwood. She had been ill six months.
     Mrs. Ross was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Morgantown, W. Va.,  the Baptist Church of Kingwood, and the Mon Valley Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
     Surviving  are her husband, C. B. Ross; one son, Willis H. of Kingwood; two grandchildren amd three great-granddaughters:  two brothers, Orange Crow of Uniontown, and Eugene Crow of Canonsburg, and several nieces and nephews in the Valley area.
     Funeral service was held this afternoon at Preston Memorial Park in Kingwood.

MISS ANNA SEDLAK
    Miss Anna Sedlak, 51, of Coal Center R. D., died Aug. 29, 1957. at 7:15 p. m.. She was the daughter? of Andrew and Anna Rebres Sedlak; born June 9, 1906, in Arnold City.
    She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Anna Sedlak; three brothers, John and George Sedlak, of Long Branch, and Paul  Sedlak, of: Washington, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rabaci, of Pricedale, and Mrs.. Helen Frazzitta, of  Long Branch; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Andrew Sedlak, Jr., of Pricedale.

    Alexander G. Steel, 64, of Water St., Fayette City. died yesterday at 10.35 a.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital.
    He was born in Washington Twp., Fayette County. on June 28, l897.
    Surviving are his widow, Catherine; four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Martha) Tiernan of Star Junction, Mrs. William (Mary Jane) Klein of Hazel Park, Mich., Mrs., Lawrence (Jessie) Kirkpatrick of R. D. 1, Fayette City, and Mrs. Paul (Lena) Disclafani of Charleroi; nine granddaughters and six great  grandchildren,  one sister, Mrs. Agnes Farquhar of Perryopolis.
    Friends are being received at the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home in Fayette City.

CLYDE E. SPHAR  (Valley Independent - April   1962)
    Clyde E. Sphar. 76, of Fallowfield Twp., Charleroi, R. D. 2, died at 8:55 p.m. yesterday in his home.
    Mr. Sphar was born August 28, 1885, in Fallowfield Twp., a son of the late Jacob and Rhoda Alberta Winnett Sphar.
    He was a member of the Church of  Christ at Lover.
    Surviving are his wife, Rachel Casteel Sphar; three sons, David H. and Howard A., both of Charleroi R. D., and Walter C. of Finleyville R. D.;  one daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Alberta) Hout of Elrama; one brother, Tarn D. of Grindstone; one sister, Mrs. Norman Gumbert of Charleroi R. D.; eight grandchildren and ten great  grandchildren.
    Friends are being received al the Harold L. Schrock Funeral home in Charleroi.

MISS PEARL SPHAR
    Miss Pearl Sphar, 72, of  Speers Borough, died in the Charleroi - Monessen hospital, May 22, 1954, at 9:45 a. m.
    Miss Sphar was born in Speers the daughter of William G. and Ruth Gregg Sphar, and was a member of the Methodist of Charleroi.
    She is survived by two brothers, George H. Sphar of Speers and Robert G. Sphar of Monessen, and three nephews.

Russell H. Thomas
     Russell H. Thomas, 57, of 800 York street, Brownsville, formerly of Charleroi, died suddenly of a heart attack, Saturday, February 25, 1956, at 10 p.m.
     Mr. Thomas, who was dead on arrival at the Brownsville hospital, was Lock Five tender for thirty-five years, and was a member of the Hillard Fire Company and the Roscoe Methodist church.
     He  is survived by his  wife, Goldie K. Thomas, three sons, Robert W. of Chicago, Illinois, Alfred of McKeesport, and Warren K. of Cleveland, Ohio, one brother, Willis B. of Clairton and a sister, Mrs. Jean Murphy of Philadelphia.

Roy Thorpe
     Roy Thorpe, 79, owner and  operator of the Mon Valley Bus Co. before his retirement, died Monday night in McKeesport Hospital.
      Mr. Thorpe of 215 Fifth Ave., Elizabeth, was born April 7, 1886 in Fayette City, a son of the late John S. and Phoebe Mitchell Thorpe. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth and formerly was an elder and trustee of the West Elizabeth Presbyterian Church.
     Survivors include his widow, Ruth Sickman Thorpe; one son, John S. Thorpe  of  Natrona Heights; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Watts of Penn Hills; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Alter of Mt. Lebanon, and Mrs. Martha Corson of Dormont; one brother, Earl S. Thorpe of Dormont; and five grandchildren.
     Friends are being received at the Walter J. Bierman Funeral Home in Elizabeth.
 

Walters, former D-H business manager
    Kenneth B. Walters of Jackson Street, Monongahela, died Thursday, Jan.29, 1987, in his home.
    Mr. Walters, who was 72, was a retired business . manager of the former Daily Herald newspaper in Monongahela.
    He was born Jan.. 8, 1915, in Speers, a son of the late Charles L. and Mae S. Jackman Walters.
    Mr. Walters retired in 1976 after 10 years of service as business manager of The Daily Herald. Prior, to that, he had owned and operated lunch counters in Connellsville, Charleroi and Monessen, and had owned and operated    Wimpy's Restaurant in Monongahela.
    He was also employed as a Prudential insurance agent for a period of 16 years.
    Mr. Walters was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first sergeant with the 305th Combat Engineering Battalion of the U.S. Army's 80th Division.
    He was active in Toastmasters' International.
    Mr. Walters was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Monongahela.
    Surviving are his wife, Carmel DeSantis Waiters, at home; two sons, Dennis Walters of Washington, Pa., and Randy Walters of Chandler, Ariz.; and two granddaughters, Kelly Carmel Walters and Brynn Elizabeth Walters, both of Chandler, Ariz.
    Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Philip L. DeRienzo Funeral Home, 216 Chess St., Monongahela.

      Mrs (Clara Mae) Mayme Waugh, aged 67 years, widow of John Waugh, died  Tuesday, December 28th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Wardle, of  Venetia.
      Funeral services were held Friday from Wrights Methodist Church,  Venetia.
      One son and four daughters survive; Walter Waugh, Mrs. Rachel Wardle,  Mrs. Lois Davis, Mrs. Alice Wardle and Mrs. Dorothy Patrick;  two brothers,  Harry and Albert Devore and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Fitch and Mrs Lou Ainsworth.

     Roberta Wilson of 402 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, died Friday, March 27, 1987, in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Twp. She was 77.
     Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 3, 1910, in Charieroi, a daughter of the late Robert and Hannah Hudspith Murray.
     She was the last surviving member of the Murray family.
     Mrs. Wilson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Charleroi.
     Surviving are her husband, George O. Wilson; three sons, Robert Lynn Wilson and George Gordon Wilson, both of Speers, and Vernon Wilson of Houston, Tex.; one daughter, Shirlee La Pointe, of Los Gatos, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     There will be no public visitation.

IRWIN WORRELL  (Valley Independent - April  18, 1962)
     Private funeral services were held this afternoon in Pittsburgh for Irwin Worrell, 71, of Elco Hollow, who accidentally drowned in the Monongahela River near Roscoe Sunday.
     Mr. Worrell was born in Long Branch Oct. 12, 1890, the son of Irwin and Emma Hazelbaker  Worrell.  A retired farmer, her was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.  He is survived  by several relatives.
