The HAGERTY family (mother Mary, sons: William & Samuel, and possibly three  daughters: Sarah Hagerty Westcott, ? Hagerty-Jobes, ? Hagerty-Dinsmore)  immigrated to the United States in 1801 from Ireland.  Earliest days were in  Chester County, PA but firmly settled in Fayette County (Franklin &  Washington Twp.) by 1810.  Themain Mon-Valley branch of our  HAGERTY/HAGGERTY clan is focused on the family of Robert Hagerty and his wife Elmira Ammon, and their first home farm was located where the Mon Valley hospital now stands.  The farm later encompassed 50 acres in Carroll
twp. & 25 acres in Fallowfield twp.  Robert was a farmer, stonemason and President of the Carroll Twp. School board.  They were members of the Horseshoe Baptist Church, along with persons of the COULTER and AMMON families.  Son Harry Ellwood Hagerty was also a stonemason and member of the City Council of Monongahela, and his son Edgar Devore Hagerty was a funeral home owner and county Deputy Coroner for 16 years.  Descendants of this family still live in the Mon-Valley area to this day.
