Very little is known at this time about the family AMMON (variously shown as AMON).  Working backwards from the daughter Elmira AMMON HAGERTY we know the following information on this family.  Upton AMMON was born about 1810 in Carroll Twp., Washington County, Pennsylvania (his parentage is as yet unknown).  He married Hester RABE who was also born in Carroll Twp., July 20, 1807 [source: Rabe family bible records.  [Please consult this site for more information on the RABE/RAPE and HAGERTY family].  Upton died in this county about 1882 and his wife Hester died June 5, 1873 in Monongahela, Washington Co., PA.  Census records mark the life of this family in the 1850 Census Washington County, Carroll Twp. (M432); page 96, #102/102, and the 1870 Washington County, Carroll Twp. (M593).  On both of these census records, Upton is shown as a carpenter and a laborer by occupation.  The couple is known to have had four children; all noted on the 1850 census.  One final record found for the father, Upton AMMON is his Last Will and Testament filed in Washington Co.  Click here for text of the Upton Ammon will.

Will #194, recorded in Vol. 12, page 180.  Date of will: December 21, 1885; Probate Date: January 12, 1886; Date of Death: December 22, 1885

The will reads as follows:
In the name of God, amen.  I, Upton Amon of the township of Carroll in the county of Washington in the state of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made.
And as to my worldly estate, and all the property, real, personal or mixed which I shall die seized, and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease I devise, bequeath and dispose thereof, in the following manner to wit:
First:  my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall, by my executors hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by him be found convenient.
Item 1st: I give, devise and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca SCOTT a promissory note which I hold against Hiram RABE together with the interest that have or may hereafter become due on the same.
I also direct that my son William H. AMMON shall pay to my daughter Rebecca SCOTT herein before named the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars in part in lieu of the amount he has received of me more than his share of my estate.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ellen SADLER the note which I hold against William H. AMON and all the balance of my estate.
I also direct that my son William H. AMON shall pay my Executor herein named all my funeral expenses in lieu of the amount he has received of me more than his share of my Estate.
And lastly I do nominate and appoint Robert HAGGERTY of the township, county and state aforesaid to be the executor of this my last will and testament.
In testamony whereof I the said Upton AMMON have to this my last will and testament contained on one sheet of paper as witness my hand and seal this twenty-first day of December A. D. 1885.  Upton AMMON " X his mark"
This is to certify that we saw the testator sign and publish the same as his last will and testament, and we in his presence and in the presence of each other and at his request, subscribed our names as witnesses: Benjamin CROW, John W. DODDS, William H. HALL
