ELCO in the WORLD WAR

BARBER, JOHN L.. Elco. Pa, Born Oct. 20, 1897.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barber
of Elco, Pa,  Entered U. S. Navy.  Assigned to Cape May and Philadelphia.  Attached to
U. S. S. Mary Garden.  Engaged in mine sweeping work. Honorably discharged in Nov.
1919, with rank of Seaman. In Reserve for three years.

BREWER, GEORGE G., Woods Run, Elco, Pa.  Born Jan. 8. 1895.  Son of George and
Barbara Brewer of Wood Run, Pa.  Entered service in Aug.,1917.   Assigned  to  Camp
Gettysburg and Greene.  Attached to Co. D, 59th Infantry, 4th Division. Embarked for
overseas in April 1918. Returned in Aug., 1919.  Saw service at Chateau Thierry. Ourco
Vesle. St. Mihiel and  Meuse-Argonne.  With Army of Occupation in Germany. Gassed
slightly while in action.  Honorably discharged in Aug., 1919, with rank of Corporal.

BREWER,  WILLIAM J., Wood Run, Elco. Pa,  Born Mar, 2, 1897.  Son of George and
Barbara Brewer of Woods Run, Pa.  Entered service in Sept. 1918,  Assigned to Camp
Forrest,  Attached to  3rd Provisional Battalion, Recruit Replacement. Honorably
discharged in Dec. 1918.

DOWLER, JOHN C., Wood Run, Elco, Pa.  Son of John and Louise Dowler of Wood
Run. Pa.  Entered service Oct. 6, 1917.  Assigned to Camps Sherman, Pike and Dix.  At¬
tached to Co. C. 336th Machine Gun Battalion. 87th Division.  Embarked for overseas in
Aug.1918. Returned in Mar. 1919.  Served at Nantes and Bordeaux. Honorably
discharged Mar. 22, 1919, with rank of First-class Private.

ECKERT,  CHARLES,  Elco,  Pa.  Born in Feb. 1895. Son of Mr. Martin Eckert of
Elco. Pa.  Entered service Dec. 11, 1917.   Assigned to Camps Sherman, McArthur and
Dix.  Attached to Supply Co.,  20th Field Artillery, 5th Division.  Embarked for overseas
May 27, 1918.  Returned July 21, 1919.  Saw service in Die Sector and at St.. Mihiel.
With Army of Occupation in Germany.   Honorably discharged July 26, 1919,  with rank
of Wagoner.

GRAY, ALEXANDER, Washington, Pa.  Born Jan.26, 1885.  Son of Mr. Alex Gray of
Elco, Pa.  Entered service Sept. 16, 1917.   Assigned to Kelley Field and Garden City.
Embarked for overseas in Feb,1918.  Returned in Dec. 1919.   Stationed at London, Eng.
Honorably discharged in Dec. 1919, with rank of First Lieutenant.

GRAY, BASIL GUNN, Elco, Pa.  Born Feb. 27, 1895.  Son of Mr. Alex Gray of Elco,
Pa.  Entered service in Sept. 1917.  Assigned to Camps Sherman  and  Mills.  Attached
to Military Police.  Embarked for overseas in July 1918.  Returned in July 1919.
Honorably discharged in July 1919.

GRAY, JOSEPH,  Elco, Pa.  Born May 14, 1891.  Son of Mr. Alex Gray of Elco, Pa.
Entered service Oct. 6, 1917.  Assigned to Camps Sherman. Pike and Dix.  Attached to
Co. I, 1st Battalion, 153rd Depot Brigade.  Embarked for overseas in Aug. 1918.
Returned in Mar. 1919. Honorably discharged Mar. 22, 1919, with rank of Sergeant.

HART, MARTIN T., Wood Run, Elco, Pa.  Born July 3, 1895.  Son of William and
Carrie Hart of Wood Run, Pa.  Entered service Sept. 1917. Assigned to Camp Sherman
and Perry. Attached to Co. M. 330th Infantry. 83rd Division.  Honorably discharged July,
1918, with rank of Cook.

HAZELBAKER, RILEY R., Elco, Pa.  Born Nov. 1,1890. Son of Mrs. William
McGinnis of Elco, Pa.  Entered service May 28, 1918.  Assigned to Camps Humphreys
and Upton.  Attached to Co. H. 4th Engineers.  Transferred to 103rd Transportatitn Co.,
overseas. Embarked for overseas July 4 1918.  Returned June 8, 1919. Honorably
discharged  July 8, 1919, with rank of First-class Private.

HUHN, KURT F., Elco, Pa. Born Feb. 28, 1891.  Son of Emanuel and Bertha Huhn of
Elco. Pa.  Entered service Oct. 6, 1917.  Assigned to Camps Greene, Sherman and Pike.
Attached to Machine Gun Company. Honorably discharged in Dec. 1918.

JOBES, HERBERT, Railroad Street, Elco, Pa. Born ___1893.  Son of Arla M. and  ___
Jobes of Railroad St., Elco. Entered service Sept. 21, 1917.  Assigned to Camps
Sheriden, Grant and Merritt.  Attached to Company ___ , Engineers.  Also with 330th
infantry.  Embarked for overseas Dec. 26, 1917.  Returned July 10, 1919.  Served _____
, Lineville Sector, Toul Sector, Meuse-Argonne, Conflaus and Le Mans.  Honorably
discharged ___ 1919 with rank of Sergeant.

Jobes of Railroad St., Elco. Entered service Sept. 21, 1917.  Assigned to Camps
Sheriden, Grant and Merritt. Attached to Company Headquarters Detachment, 21st
Engineers.  Also with 330th Infantry.  Embarked for overseas Dec. 26, 1917.  Returned
June 9, 1919.   Served at ____ ,Lineville Sector, Toul Sector, Meuse-Argonne, Conflaus
and Le Mans.  Honorably discharged June 1919 with rank of Corporal.

JOBES, WALTER, Woods Run, Elco, PA.  Born Feb. 17, 1895.  Son of William and
Bertha Jobes, California, Pa.  Entered service May 28, 1918.  Assigned to Camp
Humphreys.  Attached to Co. F, ___ Engineers, 1st Army Corps.  Embarked for overseas
in Aug. 1918.  Returned July 6, 1919.  Saw service in Meuse-Argonne.  Honorably
discharged in July, 1919.

LEE, RICHARD C., Elco, Pa.  Born Sept. 11, 1898.  Son of William and Alice Lee of
Elco. Pa.  Entered service Oct. 15, 1918.  Assigned to Pitt University, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Attached to  S. A. T. C.  Training for cornmission when Armistice was signed. Honorably
discharged Dec. 10, 1918.

MATHESON. DUNCAN, Elco, Pa.  Born Feb. 24 1894.  Son of James C. and Catherine
A. Matheson of Elco, Pa.  210th Engineers.  Assigned to Camps Humphreys, Forrest and
Mills. Ordered to sail for overseas when Armistice was signed. Honorably discharged
Mar. 6. 1919. with rank of Corporal.

MATHEWSON, JOHN W., Elco, Pa.  Born Feb. 24, 1894. Son of James C. and
Catherine A. Mathewson of Elco, Pa.  Entered service Dec. 14, 1917.  Assigned to
Camps Sherman and Merritt. Attached to Medical Detachment. 324th Field Artillery,
transferred to 83rd Division. then to 32nd Division. Embarked for overseas in May 1918.
Returned in July 1919.  Saw service at Meuse-Argonne. Received Brigade Citations.
With Army of Occupation in Germany  Honorably discharged in July 1919.

MAXON, ROBERT J., Main St., Stockdale, Pa.   Born July 24. 1892.  Son of Mr. David
Maxon of Elco, Pa.  Entered service April 1, 1918.  Assigned to Camp Lee. Attached to
Co. E, 320th Infantry, 80th Division.  Embarked for overseas in May 1918. returned in
April 1919. Saw service at St. Mihiel and Argonne. Wounded by shrapnel Aug. 4, 1918,
in hospital several months from effects of same. Honorably discharged April 9. 1919.

PEARSON, CHARLES E., Elco, Pa.  Born Nov. 2, 1896.  Son of John and Jennie
Pearson of Elco, Pa.  Entered service May 28, 1918.  Assigned to Camp Sherman.
Attached to Co. B., 5th Engineers.  Honorably discharged June 26, 1919.

PEARSON. DAVID, Elco, Pa.  Born Mar. 27, 1898,  Son of John and Jennie Pearson of
Elco, Pa.  Entered service Sept. 5, 1918. Not assigned to any  organization.   Honorably
discharged Sept. 17, 1919.

PRESKY,  HENRY  ANTHONY, Elco, Pa.  Born Feb. 3, 1893. Son of Mr. Albert
Presky of Elco, Pa. Entered service Aug. 8, 1917. Assigned to Camps Gettysburg,
Greene and Mills.  Attached to  Co. D. 59th Infantry, 4th Infantry.  Embarked for
overseas May 3, 1918. returned in Aug. 1919.  Saw service at Chateau Thierry, St. Mihiel
and Meuse-Argonne.  Wounded in foot and right side at Chateau Thierry on July 19,
1918.  In Hospital for several months.  Honorably discharged Aug. 8.1919.

RILEY, JOHN, Elco, Pa.  Born April 17, 1890.  Son of Mr. Andrew Riley of Elco, Pa.
Entered service Sept. 21, 1917.  Assigned to Camp Sherman. Attached to Military Police.
Embarked for overseas June 19, 1918.  Returned in July 1919.  Stationed at Le Mans,
France.  Honorably discharged July 31, 1919, with rank of Sergeant.

ROBERTS, JAMES S., Elco, Pa. Son of Mr. George Roberts of Reedsville, W. Va.
Entered service in April 1917.  Attached to Battery B. 5th Light Artillery, 1st Division.
Embarked for overseas in June 1917.  Returned in Feb. 1919.  Saw service at Santigny,
Soissons, St. Mihiel Argonne and  Rhine.   Wounded  in foot by shrapnel,  also severely
gassed.  In Hospital for same.  Received Divisional Citations. Honorably discharged in
Feb. 1919.

ROY, WILLIAM H., Elco, Pa.  Born Oct. 4, 1896.  Son of Mrs. Elizabeth Roy of Elco,
Pa.  Entered service May 14, 1918.  Assigned to Camps McArthur and Merritt. Attached
to 7th Ammunition Train, 7th Division.  Embarked for overseas Aug. 16, 1918.  Returned
June 22, 1919.  Saw service at Meuse-Argonne.  Honorably discharged June 29, 1919,
with rank of Wagoner.

SCHULTZ, WILLIAM, Elco, Pa.  Born Dec. 3, 1895.  Son of Mr. Otto Schultz of Elco,
Pa . Entered service April 26, 1918.  Assigned to Camps Sherman  and  Mills.   Attached
to 332nd Ambulance Co.  Embarked for overseas June 14, 1918. Returned Aug. 12,
1919. Saw service at Mouse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, Chateau Thierry. Honorably discharged
in Aug. 1919.

STEPHENSON, JOHN, Railroad St., Elco, Pa. Born Jan. 12, 1891.  Son of Mr. Robert
Stephenson of R. R. St., Elco, Pa.  Entered service Oct. 6. 1917.  Assigned to Camps
Sherman, Pike, Merritt and Dix.  Attached to Co. E, 26th Infantry, lst Division.
Embarked for overseas in June 1918.  Returned in Feb. 1919.  Saw service in Soissons
Sector. at St. Mihiel,. Mause-Argonne and Chateau Thierry. Honorably discharged in
Mar. 1919.

WEBB, RICHARD H., Elco, Pa.  Born Feb. 2, 1894.  Son of William and Helen Webb of
Pricedale, Pa.  Entered service May 28, 1918.  Assigned  to  Camps Humphreys  and
Meade. Attached to Co. F, 214th Engineers.  Honorably discharged Feb. 1, 1919, with
rank of Corporal.
