Edward J. Parrow

                       1883-1933

Edward J. Parrow was born June 20, 1883 in Wild Rice, Dakota Territory.  He was the first son born to Odile (Dumas) and Edward Parrow.

Ed Parrow and Mary Heinen were married on October 3, 1910.  Mary was the daughter of the Heinens of Chicago, IL.  Her father was killed by vandals when Mary was very young.  Her mother came west with the children, Mary and Frank, because she had family in the Hankinson, ND area.

Ed and Mary farmed outside of Havana and also for a time ran the Standard Oil Station.  They had 5 children, Catherine born May 7, 1911, Earl born December 26, 1913, Frank born September 10, 1916, Shirley born April 3, 1923 and Irene born April 30, 1926.  All the children were born on Krieger ranches that Ed & Mary rented and farmed.

In the winter of 1933 while returning from a business trip to Fargo, Ed had an appendicitis attach.  He was taken to Britton by train.  His appendix burst and he died on January 24 at the age of 49.

Mary and the children moved to the present farm site east of Havana in 1933 where she raised her family and continued farming with her children.  Frank was the mainstay of this operation and he retired in 1980.  The farm operation continues in the family with Bill & Brad Smith (Shirley's sons) operating the farm.

Mary passed away on October 21, 1968 at the age of 76.
