Adams, Ernest Clyde

Earnest Clyde Adams, 61, died yesterday afternoon following a heart attack. He had been a life resident of the Lonsdale community, and was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flossie Adams; one son, Julius of Prescott; and 1 sister, Mrs. Minnie Warford, Malvern. Addie, Phyllis A. Williams

Phyllis A. Williams Addie, 51, of Traskwood, died May 17, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Little Rock. She was born June 3, 1957, in Malvern to the late Crafton L. and Elva Warford Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Addie and her son David Williams.
Survivors include one daughter, Janetta Pickett and husband Rick of Bryant; two sons, Jonathan Addie and Derrick Addie both of Bryant; two sisters, Brenda Faye Clark of Kentucky and Flo Howard of Grapevine, Arkansas; three brothers, Ray Williams of Traskwood, Carroll “Cabbage” Williams of Benton, and Waymon Williams of Traskwood, and five grandchildren who she loved spending time with.

Allen, Drew Buchanan

Drew Buchanan Allen was born November 22, 1929, at Camden, Arkansas, and died ied October 19, 2013, in El Dorado Medical Center at age 83.
He was a member of the Cullendale Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Gladys Allen; grandson, Kyle Spencer Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Cloie Sanders Allen of Camden, Arkansas; children, Don and Kathryn Allen of Houston, Texas, Diane and Wayne Davis of Houston, Texas, Dennis Allen of Camden, Arkansas; grandchildren, Amy and Daryl Parsons of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Rudolph Allen of Chidester, Arkansas, Bobby and Audrey Allen of Fordyce, Arkansas.

Allison, Eugene Harvey

Eugene H. Allison, 83, of Denison, Texas, a former Conway resident, died Thursday (September 27, 1984). Born May 22, 1901, in Clinton, Mr. Allison was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Allison. He lived in Conway much of his early life through his early 20s. He was the widower of the former Mrs. Lucille Edwards, a Conway native. He was a retired Army Corps of Engineers architect. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Linda Wilkinson of Denison, Texas; a brother, Dr. F. Peel Allison of Beaumont, Texas; and three grandchildren. Allison, Farris Peel

Dr. Farris Peel Allison, 86, of Beaumont, Texas, formerly of Conway, died Friday (Aug 16, 1991). Born July 22, 1905, a son of Edward Harvey and Sarah Elizabeth Peel Allison, he was the widower of Martha Virginia 'Marginnie' Thompson Allison. He was a Methodist and an Army flight surgeon during World War II. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Beaumont Rotary Club and a past president of the Texas Diabetes Society. He was a graduate of Conway High School, Arkansas State Teachers College, (now the University of Central Arkansas) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Prior to earning his medical degree, he was a high school coach. Survivors are a son, William P. Allison of Austin, Texas; and a daughter, Sarah J. Allison of Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont. Graveside services for the immediate family will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park by Broussard's Mortuary. Allison, Gertrude Elizabeth Hoss

Gertrude Elizabeth Allison, 88, of Conway, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006. She was born on June 8, 1917, to the late Edgar and Flora Yeoman Hoss. She was a retired secretary from FMC and had previously worked for the University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College and First State Bank. She was a homemaker and charter member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Bobby Allison of Memphis, Tennessee, Walter Allison and wife Debbie of Conway, and Richard Allison and wife Jennifer of Mt. Washington, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kara Allison Bell and husband Rob of Maumelle, Porter Allison of Memphis, Kalyn Allison of Springdale, Arkansas, Kyle Allison of Conway, Blake Allison, Lindsey Allison, and Kristen Allison, all of Memphis; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Bell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert C. "Bob" Allison, and two sisters, Leona Murphree and Cleo Porter. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Rev. David Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Allison, Lucille Edwards

Mrs. Lucille Allison, 46, daughter of a Conway couple and wife of a former Conway man, Eugene H. Allison, died at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City late Saturday. Mrs. Allison underwent an operation last Tuesday. The body is being returned to Conway and will reach Little Rock late tonight. Funeral will be conducted at McNutt's Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. Mrs. Allison was born at Mist, Ashley County, Arkansas, September 9, 1906, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Edwards, now of Conway. She was graduated from former Central College here in 1926 and went to New York the same year. Three years later she married Mr. Allison. The couple had two children, Robert Allison, a sophomore in Columbia University and Linda Allison, 4, of the home. The family home is 5101 Thirty-Ninth St., Long Island City, N.Y. Mrs. Allison was a Baptist. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. J. P. Gammell of Chicago, Mrs. Mary Stewart of New Orleans, Mrs. William H. Roth, of Searcy, Mrs. A. J. Meadors of Morrilton and Mrs. Alton R. Foster, Jr., of Great Bend, Kansas, and four brothers, John W. Edwards of Batesville, Dr. Hugh R. Edwards of Searcy, Charles B. Edwards of Conway and Lt. James R. Edwards, Jr., stationed in the Navy in the Philippines. The Rev. Othar Smith will officiate at services tomorrow and burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Dr. Edwards and Mrs. Roth flew to New York Friday and they returned by air today, being accompanied by Linda Allison. Mr. Allison and his son are accompanying the body by train. Allison, Robert E.

Lt. Allison is Killed in Europe. Lt. Robert Allison, aged about 26, son of Eugene Allison of New York City, formerly of Conway, was killed in an automobile accident in Europe, presumably in Germany, Saturday, according to information received by relatives here. The elder Mr Allison notified his brother, Robert C. Allison, of the tragedy, but did not give details. Lt. Allison, a native of New York, was graduated from Columbia University and had been in the Air Force more than four years. He was a jet pilot. He received his flight training at Lackland Air Force Base At San Antonio, Texas. Lt. Allison was a grandson of J. R. Edwards and a nephew of Charles B. Edwards of Conway. Allison, Virginia Elizabeth Vance

End Comes to Aged Woman
Mrs. W. M. Allison, 84, is dead here. Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Allison, aged 84, wife of Dr. W. M. Allison, died at 2 o'clock this morning at the residence of their daughter, Mrs. Arch Cole, and Mr. Cole on South Ash Street, where the couple had made their home for about five years. Mrs. Allison was born November 27, 1844, in Mississippi, and came with her parents, Mr, and Mrs, Enoch H, Vance, to Grant County, Arkansas, in early childhood. She was married at Sheridan, Arkansas, to Dr. Allison in October 1866. They moved to Little Rock in 1872 and to Bee Branch, Van Buren County, in 1884, residing at the latter place until 1923, when they came to Conway. Mrs. Allison is survived by her husband and three sons: E. H. Allison of Conway, Dr. W. G. Allison of Hope, Arkansas, and Thomas Allison of Quitman; two daughters, Mrs. W. B. Payne, and Mrs. Cole of Conway; two brothers, S. H. Vance of Little Rock and R. C. Vance of Little Rock; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Cole residence at 1 o'clock this afternoon by Dr. E. P. J. Garrott, pastor of the First Baptist Church. The body was taken by J. A. Allison, Walter Edward

Dr. Walter Edward Allison, 58, of Conway passed away Friday, July 27, 2007.
He was born June 22, 1949, in Little Rock, to the late Robert C. Allison and Gertrude Hoss Allison.
He was a charter member and deacon at Woodland Heights Baptist Church; past President of the Conway Chamber of Commerce; past President of Kiwanis Club of Conway; past Director of the Conway Planning Commission, member of the American Dental Association, and Arkansas State Dental Association.
Survivors are his wife Debbie Allison of Conway; daughters, Kara Bell and husband Rob of Maumelle; Kalyn Evans and husband Justin of Rogers; son, Kyle Allison of Conway; grandchildren, Allison Bell, Jahna, Faith, Christian, and Olivia Evans; brothers, Bobby Allison of Memphis, Tennessee, Richard Allison and wife Jennifer of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, and many other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Woodland Heights Baptist Church with Revs. David Hatfield and Dennis Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway.

Allison, Walter Gladwin

The news of Dr. Walter Allison's tragic death in his office in Hope, Arkansas, where he was shot and killed by government inspectors of narcotics on May 25, was a great shock to old neighbors and friends here. Although 'Dr Walter,' as we knew him, had been living away from here many years, he often came home to visit the place of his early boyhood. Dr. W. G. Allison, aged 75, Hope physician who recently was charged with illegal sales of narcotics, was shot to death and William Schaffer of Little Rock, government narcotic investigator, went to a hospital with a bullet wound in the ar following a gun battle in the physician's office here about 10:30 this morning. Joseph Bell, narcotic district director with headquarters in Kansas City, escaped injury although a bullet ripped the left sleeve of his coat. Dr. Allison was shot four times by Schaffer and died almost instantly.
Agent Tells of Gun Fight
The agents were questioning the doctor about some prescriptions they had seized, Bell said. He reported that Dr. Allison asked permission to open his safe unwatched, saying it made him nervous to be watched. Bell said he and Schaffer stepped through the door. Dr. Allison opened the safe and turned on them saying, "None of us will have to worry about this any longer." "I saw he had a gun and grabbed him," Bell related. "In the struggle he pointed the gun at my chest and fired. The bullet went through my sleeve. Schaffer pulled his gun and hit the doctor over the head, but failed to subdue him. The doctor shot Schaffer in the arm, then Schaffer opened fire. There was no other way of stopping him."
Several Cases Investigated
Dr. Allison had practiced in Hope for many years.Three weeks ago he was arrested by Schaffer on charges of violating the narcotic laws. He was arraigned before United States Commissioner Thelma Owens in Texarkana two weeks ago and released under $1,000 bond after he pleaded innocent to a charge of illegal sale of morphine. He was bound over to the Federal Grand Jury. The shooting climaxed a series of narcotic investigations here which also led to charges against Dr. R. E. Lewis, Negro physician of Hope, charged with illegal sale of drugs. Dr. Lewis waived hearing. Dr. James E. Cox of Rosston, Nevada County, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on narcotic charges May 13. Dr. Allison is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Max Cox of Hope. Allison, William M.

Dr. Allison, city's oldest citizen dies.
Dr. William M. Allison, aged 96, father of Mrs. W. B. Payne and Mrs. A. E. Cole and the late E. H. Allison of Conway, Faulkner county's oldest citizen and one of the oldest men in Arkansas, died early Sunday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cole on Ada Avenue. Dr. Allison had been confined to his bed for more than two years. Funeral services were conducted at Bee Branch, his former home, this afternoon at 2:00, in charge of Rev. Sam B. Wiggins, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Conway and Rev. Joe P. Pierce of Conway. Interment in charge of J. A. Pence & Son was made in Bee Branch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were William, Gus and Robert C. Allison of Conway, Howard, Lawrence and Marvin Cantrell of Greenbrier and George Ussery of Little Rock.
Dr. Allison had a colorful career as soldier, politician and physician. He retired from active practice 15 years ago. He had practiced mostly in rural districts in Arkansas, making most of his calls on horseback. He was born in Independence, Missouri, December 27, 1841. As a youth of 29 he enlisted in the union army at the outbreak of the civil war and served under General Steele in Arkansas. He fought in the battles of Springfield and Pea Ridge, and was in the first brigade to enter Little Rock upon its evacuation by the Confederate forces. He was said to have been the last survivor of the battle of Pea Ridge. He remained with the army in Little Rock for 2 years, fought in the skirmishes at Jenkins Ferry and Pine Bluff and at the close of the war was mustered out in Little Rock. He went back to Missouri, spending a year at Sedalia, then returned to Little Rock. During a trip to Saline county he met the daughter of E. H. Vance, who was then influential in the Arkansas house of representatives. After their marriage, Rep. Vance obtained passage of a bill creating Grant county of a part of Saline county, and Dr. Allison was appointed commissioner to build the courthouse for the newly created county at Sheridan. Dr. Allison's first experience in medicine was gained as assistant to the late Dr. Chester Jennings, one of the best known physicians in Little Rock a half century ago and who died about 20 years ago. After studying in Little Rock he went to the Cincinnati Eclectic Medical School, where he took a two-year course. Returning from college Dr. Allison practiced in Little Rock a year and then moved to Bee Branch, where he remained from 1881 to 1910. In 1910 he moved to Quitman, where he remained about 10 years, when he moved to Conway. Dr. Allison served as dean and president of the Arkansas Eclectic Medical Association and also as chairman of the state examining board.
He is survived by a son, Dr. W. G. Allison of Hope; two daughters, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Cole of Conway and three sisters, Mrs. Rose Hiett of Butler, Missouri, and Mrs. Lucy Myers and Mrs. Green Young of Portland, Oregon. [from Log Cabin Democrat December 23, 1937 - Monday's Daily]

Anderson, Carmon Magie

Carmon Magie Anderson, age 96, of Perryville, Arkansas, passed away, Thursday, November 7, 2013. She was born October 28, 191,7 in Nimrod, Arkansas, a daughter of Hollis Magie and Josie Howard Magie. She was the widow of Obern Anderson, a homemaker, and member of Perryville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Ed Anderson and wife Ilona of Oppelo; grandson, Ray Anderson of Sulphur, Oklahoma and great-grandson, Eric Anderson of Central City.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 11th at Perryville United Methodist Church with Pastor Terrie Lynn Bunnell officiating. Burial will be at Nimrod Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. [from Harris Funeral Homes online obituary]

Arey, Gladys Lorine Flory

Gladys Lorine Arey, age 90, of Bryant, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016. She was born January 12, 1926, in Sheridan, Arkansas. Mrs. Arey was the owner of Springhill Grocery. She was a radio operator for the Springhill Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Hurricane Lake Baptist Church. Mrs. Arey was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Pearl Flory and her husband, William Albert Arey.
She is survived by her son, Mike Arey and wife Carla of Bryant; four daughters, Carolyn Counts and husband Wallace of Bismarck, Joan Handy and husband Jim of Bryant; Beth Bryant of Bryant and Betty Hopper and husband Bill of Bismarck; brother, Winfred Flory of Cabot; sister, Catherine High of Bryant; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jimy Handy, Daniel Hunt, Matt Hunt, Michael Hunt, John Bryant, Ricky Bryant and Jim Kotoff.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Arey, Raymond

Raymond G. Arey, 78, of Haskell, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Raymond honored God, and country, and adored his family. Born on December 24, 1934, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda Mitchell Arey; daughter, Jennifer Arey Davis and husband, Robert; son, Jeffrey Arey and wife, Betsy. Five grandchildren are left to cherish his memory: Allen Davis and wife, Lana; Kristen Davis Castleberry and husband, Sean; Jason Davis and wife, Melissa; Jacob Arey, Rachel Arey and five beautiful and beloved great grandchildren. Also among his survivors are a sister, Wilma Arey Westbrook of Haskell, sister in law, Mary Lynn Mitchell Wilson and husband, Troy of Leesburg, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Helen Arey.
Raymond graduated from Harmony Grove High School in 1954, served his country in the United States Air Force and attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Raymond owned and operated several businesses; Arey's General Store from 1972 to 1992; Homes 4 U, a mobile home dealership and RGA Properties, a property management company. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton.
Always the adventurer, Raymond and Glenda traveled all over the United States creating lifelong memories. He was an avid Razorback fan. He and Glenda traveled many years with great friends as part of the Arkansas Roadhogs. Raymond was a joyful man, who lived life to its fullest. He had a spirit of gentleness although his manner was sometimes gruff. A strong and steady man, he toiled, loved, and dreamed of ways to prove to his family how much they truly meant to him. Raymond was the foundation of his family.
Family visitation will be held Friday, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Selph Hall in First Baptist Church, Benton, Arkansas.
Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at Mount Harmony Cemetery in Haskell, Arkansas.

Ashcraft, Elijah L.

Elijah Ashcraft Dies in Hospital
Elijah Ashcraft, 68, 819 North First, died Monday morning at the Ponca City Hospital after an illness of two months. He entered the hospital March 5.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, east of the city. The E. AM. Trout and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ashcraft was born May 30, 1886, at Hot Springs, Arkansas. [Social Security and Delayed Birth Certificate indicate Benton, Saline County, Arkansas), He and his wife moved to Drum right in 1919 and he worked there for Cities Service Oil Company and Singular Oil Company before joining the city water department of Drum right. He retired in 1947 and moved to Ponca City.

Mrs. Ashcraft's Bearers Named
Funeral services for Mrs. Mima Ann Ashcraft, 81, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Grace Memorial Chapel.
The Rev. Adrian Condit, minister of the Free Will Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Johnson, Gerald Hill, Norman Gray, Ed Massie, Bill Lee and John McCalester.
Mrs. Ashcraft died early Thursday morning at Ponca City Hospital. She had been in ill health for 16 years.
A native of Arkansas, Mrs. Ashcraft moved to Ponca City in 1961 and had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. E. E. Nash, 2003 Willow.
Other survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Milton Hilton of Newkirk; two sons, Edward and Hollis of Tulsa; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Campbell and Mrs. May Dickinson, Tulsa, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. [source unknown]

Austin, Dilton Vernon, Jr.

WAREHAM -- Dilton V. "Tex" Austin, 79, of Onset, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn (Chase) Austin.
Born in Dallas, Texas, the son of the late Dilton V. Sr. and Bessie (Harris) Austin, he moved to Onset in the 1930s.
Mr. Austin joined the Navy and served on board the USS Mount McKinley (AGC-7) as a carpenter's mate. He served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific theater of operations. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Austin returned to Wareham High School to finish earning his diploma.
Mr. Austin was employed as a carpenter and was also a correctional officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Myles Standish State Forest facility. Retiring from the commonwealth in 1981, he continued working as a carpenter for Robert Sherman in Rochester. He retired fully in 1989.
A master craftsman, he made everything from cabinets to jewelry boxes to boats. Mr. Austin also enjoyed fishing and gardening. Survivors include his widow; four sons, Raymond Austin of El Cajon, California, Joel Austin of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, William Austin of Onset and James Austin of Rochester; and four grandchildren, Joel Jr., Valerie, Samuel and Benjamin Austin.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway. Interment will be in Congregational and Soldiers Cemetery, Eastham. [source unknown]

ATKINS - O. C. Austin Jr., 78, of Atkins, died Sunday, January 25, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Atkins and the son of the late Omer C. and Winnie Whiteside Austin, he was a retired painting contractor and a member of Atkins Masonic Lodge 172 and Bells Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Austin; three sons, Billy Austin of Martin, Tennessee, Bobby Austin of Pottsville and Jerry Austin of Morrilton; a daughter, Marilyn Brock of North Little Rock; two sisters, Lesola Baker of Atkins and Mary Maldrum of Russellville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Bells Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Soward. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Bells Chapel Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.

Active - David Faucett, Ed Weldon, Bob Boren, Lewis Fletcher, Thomas Willcutt, Johnny Duvall and David Redell.

Austin, Philip Washington

Phillip Washington Austin pioneer resident of Brownwood and Brown Co. died at the family residence, 200 Main Avenue at 1:15 Sunday, May 27th following a long illness. At time of death he was 82 years, 10 months, and 9 days of age, his 83rd birthday falling on the 18th of the coming July. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4:30 from the Harwell Funeral Home, and will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Johnson, for many years a personal friend of deceased. Interment will be at Atkins, Arkansas, on Wednesday afternoon, May 30th. The remains are to be shipped over the Frisco midnight train tonight accompanied by his sons, J. M. Austin and W. Y. Austin. Atkins was the old home of deceased. Phillip Washington Austin was born in Loraine County, Tennessee, on July 18th, 1845, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Young Austin, highly respected pioneer family of that section. At the age of 2 years he moved with the family to Pope County, Arkansas, where he resided until he volunteered in the United States Army for service in the Civil War, on September 10, 1863; serving until honorable discharged on August 18, 1865. After his discharge, he returned to Pope County where he was married to Miss Mary C. Rhyne. They resided there for several years, Mrs. Austin dying in 1900, and Mr. Austin with the family moved to Texas in 1903. He first settled near Blanket, in Brown County engaging in farming in that and other Brown County communities until he moved to Brownwood in 1911, where he resided continuously until the time of his death. To Mr. and Mrs. Austin were born three sons and seven daughters, the sons and five of the daughters surviving him. Two daughters, Mdmes. Talle and Loanna Robinson, died several years ago. Children surviving are, three sons, Marvin Holder, Brown Co. Texas; W.[Young] Austin, 2000 Main Avenue, Brownwood, Texas; J. M. Austin, Coggin Avenue, Brownwood; and five daughters, Mesdames J. R. Whitesides, Rochester, Texas; R. P. Smith, Russellville, Ar.; D. M. Hayes [Hays], Atkins, Arkansas; W. M. Dykes, King, Texas; T. W. Earnest, 707 Ave. G, Brownwood, Texas. Mr. Austin was a Christian gentleman, a member of the Methodist Church for many years. He led an active and useful life, until a few years ago when his health began failing and since that time he had been growing more feeble until the time of his last illness and death. Back in his old home section he has many friends who mourn his death, and during his residence in Brownwood and Brown County he has many many close friends by his unfailing kindness and gentleness of spirit, and to these friends the death comes as a very real grief and loss, and these many friends and acquaintances join the bereaving relatives in sincerely mourning the passing of this good man.
