Mrs. Belle Gardenhire, Wife of Jack Gardenhire
Hot Springs, Sept. 5 - Mrs. Belle Gardenhire, aged 77, wife of Jack Gardenhire, died Thursday at her home here. She was a Baptist. Survivors also include a daughter, Mrs. Joe Maner of Hot Springs; a stepson, Dr. Charles Mitchell of Oklahoma; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Garner, Effie Willie Shillito

Effie Willie Garner, 78, died Thursday, January 16, at a local hospital. She was a native of Hot Springs, a housewife, and member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Hardie Garner of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Antioch Cemetery with the Rev. J. D. (Judge) Garner, 76, died Tuesday night at his home. He was a native and life resident of Garland County. Survivors include 2 brothers, Freddie Garner and Hardy Garner, both of Hot Springs; 4 sisters, Mrs. Millie Ford, Miss Nettie Garner, Mrs. Lular Moore and Mrs. Flossie Adams, all of Hot Springs. Garner, Hardie

Hardie Garner, 83, died Monday, June 9, at a local nursing home. He was a native of Garland County, a retired carpenter and farmer, and a Baptist. Garner, Nettie Florence

Nettie Florence "Granny" Garner, 99, of Hot Springs died Wednesday, January 1, at her home. A lifetime resident of Garland County, she was a charter member of Millcreek Baptist Church, receiving numerous pins and awards for Bible study and attendance.
Survivors include three daughters, Izora B. Witherspoon, Elnora Wilson and Georgia Rigsby, all of Hot Springs; two sons, John Garner and Rube Garner, both of Hot Springs; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wade Garner; seven sons, Dock Garner, Toy Garner, Herbert Garner, Wilbert Garner, Sidney Garner, Obert Garner and Virgil Garner; and one daughter, Lillie Merriott. Garner, Robert Joseph

Robert Joseph "Bob" Garner of Hot Springs, Arkansas, born December 5, 1933, died Friday November 2, 2009, at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Albert and Jessie Westerman Garner.
Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Myrna Loy Garner of Hot Springs, three daughters and sons-in-law; Susan and Rev. Doug Jones of Hot Springs; Angela and Lary Ledbetter of Lonsdale; Joanna and Dale Jenkins of Benton; his grandchildren and their spouses; April and Rev. Jason Sullivan; Robert and Jennifer Jones; Jake, Jessie and Joseph Ledbetter, Morgan and Lauren Jenkins; three great-grandchildren; Ella Ledbetter, Ethan Jones and Jaycie Sullivan; two brothers, Charles and Doyle Garner of Hot Springs and sister, Anna Lou Smith.
Bob was Assistant Zoological Director for Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, and retired in 1994 after 21 years. He was trained from the age of 17 by Animal Psychologists Keller and Marian Breland in the process of operant conditioning. This period of instruction led him into a career of training and installing animal shows across the United States and Canada at such locations as Busch Gardens, Sea Worlds, Parrot Jungle, Marine Worlds, and for TV shows and commercials. When asked about his occupation Bob always replied, "I've trained everything from white rats to whales."
He was a member and trustee of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Hot Springs. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a mentor to all his family, a friend and gentleman to those who knew him.
The celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Gross Funeral Home Chapel, 120 Wrights St., Hot Springs, Arkansas. Pastor Roy Helms and Reverend Doug Jones officiating.
Bob's request was that there be no formal visitation. His remains will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 2, 2009, for friends desiring to pay their respects.
Family graveside services will be held at the Garner Farm.
Pallbearers will be Danny Garner, Jeff Saunders, Dick Gray, James Ward, Don Jenkins and Don Burroughs. Honorary pallbearers are Albert Sutton, Ron Thrash, Larry Collier and Men's Fellowship at First Free Will Baptist Church.

Garner, Sidney Floy

Sidney Floy Garner, 59, died Thursday at a Little Rock hospital. He was born in Hot Springs, was a laborer, a Baptist and a veteran of World War II. He had also worked for the EVPA for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Bell Garner of Hot Springs; two daughters, Peggy Stewart and Patsy Dishroon, both of California; a stepdaughter, Norma Knaper of Hot Springs, two brothers, John Garner and Rube Garner, both of Hot Springs; 2 sisters, Elnora Wilson and Izora Witherspoon, both of Hot Springs; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Garner of Hot Springs; a half-brother Toy Garner of Hot Springs; a half-sister, Mrs. Georgia Rigsby of Hot Springs; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services for Sidney Floy Garner, 59, who died Thursday, will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Caruth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Stovall officiating.

Garrett, Burl Dewey

Burl Dewey Garrett
January 7, 1958 - March 3, 2016
Burl Dewey Garrett went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 3, 2016, at home with his family. Burl was 58 years old and was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, to the late Crawford and Pauline Garrett.
Burl was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Orville Garrett.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 32 years Tammy Garrett of Benton; one son, Jarrod Burl Garrett (Monica) of Benton, Arkansas; one daughter, Jami Michelle Garrett and fiancé Hunter of Bryant, Arkansas; and one grandson Brooks Hunter Young of Bryant, Arkansas; two step-grandchildren, Caroline and Landon Spann of Benton, Arkansas; three sisters, Kim Odle (Donnie) of Paron, Christy Thompson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Marilyn Fennimore (Bill) of Panama City Beach, Florida.
There are many family and friends who loved Burl and will miss him always. Burl was a true country boy and loved to spend his time on the lake fishing and in the woods hunting. He was employed at Coors Tek for thirty three years.
Reception visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2016, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.. at Smith-Benton Funeral Home.

Garrett, Mary Alice Huchingson

Mrs. Marie Alice Garrett, aged 61, of Benton died today. She was an employee of the Benton State Hospital and a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, Frank Garrett; one son, Richard Garrett of Benton; one daughter, Mrs. Geneva Powell of Benton; two brothers, Monroe Huchingson and Arch Clemmons Huchingson, both of Owensville; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Neal of Dallas, Texas; and six grandchildren. Garrett, William Franklin

William Franklin Garrett, aged 66, of Route 2, Benton died today. He was a retired timberman. Survivors include a son, Richard Garrett of Route 2, Benton; a daughter, Mrs. Geneva Powell of Route 2, Benton; two brothers, Louis Garrett and Walter Garrett, both of Route 2, Benton; a sister, Mrs. Rosa Irwin of Route 2, Benton; and six grandchildren. George, Glen Edward, Sr.

Glen Edward George Sr., 79, of Hot Springs, went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Glen was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was born June 27, 1935, in Hot Springs. He is preceded in death by his parents O.C and Mamie George, sister Hazel McDonald, brother-in-laws Mack McDonald and Bill Scott, and the love of is life Evelyn of 56 years. Survivors include his five sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Diana George Jr., Kenneth and Paula George, Steve and Marcia George, Gerald and Britney George all of Hot Springs, and Britt and Cherri George, of Malvern; fifteen Grandchildren; and nineteen Great Grandchildren; five sisters and one brother-in-law Juanita Yandell of Pearcy, Vonda Young, Vivian Skipper Scott, Sadie Herron, Tresa and Jack Smoot all of Hot Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews. Geurin, Lorraine Taylor Williams

Jessie Lorraine Geurin, 83, of Benton, died March 18, 2009. She was born November 11, 1925, in Paron, to the late Joseph Joe and Janie Taylor. Jessie was an L.P.T.N. and a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adrian [tombstone shows Adrion] Williams. Survivors, husband, L. A. Geurin, son, Arvin Williams and wife, Darlene of Benton, step son, Tony Geurin of Benton, step daughters, Linda Love, Benton, Fran Nichols, Benton, daughters, Betty Sue Blankenship and husband, Marvin, Hot Springs, Jane Elizabeth Staton, Benton, sister, Odessa Roberts, Hot Springs, ten grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Gillham, Martha Ramseur

Martha R. Gillham, 86, of Dardanelle died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. She was born April 17, 1920, at Hot Springs to Lucien and Helen Ramseur and was the 1938 valedictorian of her Hot Springs High School Class. Martha was an avid bird watcher and authored a column on bird watching for the Arkansas Wildlife Federation Magazine for more than 15 years and was a member of the Dardanelle First United Methodist Church. She held the position of chairman or vice chairman of the Yell County Democratic Committee from 1950 to 2001.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Ralph Gillham; two sons, Lucien Gillham and wife, Jan, of Sherwood and Richard Gillham and wife, Mari, of Huntsville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Graves of Delaware and Elizabeth Horn of Pasadena, Texas.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cornwell Chapel with the Rev. Roger Glover officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home.

Glover, Gilbert Louis

Gilbert Louis (G.L.) Glover, 76, died January 27, 1998. Born raised and educated in Little Rock, he worked in heavy construction until he joined the Army in World War II. For two years of his military service, his Corps of Engineers division was attached to the Flying Tigers in China where he earned various commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters. After his honorable discharge as staff sergeant in 1946, he returned to construction work. In 1952, he became a business agent for Teamsters Local 878 and served in that capacity and many other union leadership positions until 1974. Later that year, he became the executive director of the 24 Hour Center, serving there until late 1982 when he acquired Warehouse Carpet Sales which became a successful small business from which he retired in 1992.
Throughout his career, Mr. Glover was an active member of the Democratic Party and was elected to many party leadership positions, including chairman of the Pulaski County Democratic Committee, chairman of the Democratic County Chairman of Arkansas and three times as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was a member of the Masons, the Eastern Star, the Shriners, and many other organizations. His community service included serving as a board member for the Pulaski County Board of Electric Commissioners, the Untied Way, the EOA of Pulaski County, the Health and Welfare Council, and the 24 Hour Center and as a member of the Little Rock Safety Commission, the Vo-Tech Educational Advisory Council, SCORE, and the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Bernadine Lemon Glover; son, Gilbert L. Glover II and his wife, Paula Casey; daughter, Vickie L. Barnes and her husband, Dr. Larry G. Barnes; and daughter, Cathy A. Nicolas and her husband, lee Elias Nicolas; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, 1500 N. Mississippi, Little Rock. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Godwin, H. L.

H. L. "Hickory Nut" Godwin, 63, of Jessieville, went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2015. He was born February 14, 1952, in Hot Springs to Charles Sr. and Gladys Godwin. H. L. was of the Methodist faith and an Army veteran, having served our great country from 1971 to 1977. H.L. worked as a mason, but was lovingly known by his family as a jack of all trades.
Loving survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Godwin; daughter, Belinda Tillery and husband Douglas; sons: Tim Godwin and wife,Ausra, Jeremy Godwin and wife, Nikki, Gary Godwin and wife Cassy, and Kegan Godwin; brother, Charles Godwin and his wife, Ann; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2015, at Godwin Cemetery with Pastor Clyde Edds officiating.

Horace J. Goodwin, aged 57, of Benton died Wednesday, October 30. He was a member of Owensville Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Lorene Burnett Goodwin; three sons, Lloyd, Horace Jr., and Jerry Goodwin, all of Benton; a brother, Lee Goodwin of Benton; a sister, Mrs. Lona Chenault of Benton and five grandchildren. Gwin, Mark Frank

Jacksonville - Mark F. Gwin of Jacksonville, a retired taxi driver, died Monday. He was 56.
He was a Catholic.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret Gwin; and two sisters, Margaret Tanksley of Sherwood and Bernadine Wright of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Cemetery in Perry County with burial by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.
