Hale, Charles Calvin "Cab"

Charles Calvin "Cab" Hale, age 68, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009. He was born December 9, 1940, in Bauxite, Arkansas. Mr. Hale was a retired Air Force Veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Mable Hale and a sister, Jean Rogers, and her husband Jimmy Dale.
He is survived by his sister, Janie F. Westbrook, and her husband Gerald of Haskell and a brother, Bob G. Hale, and his wife Margaret of Glen Rose and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tony Westbrook, Josh and Jeremy Rogers, Preston and Logan Hale and Joey Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Westbrook and Billy Hale.
Funeral service was 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 30 at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Bauxite Cemetery.

Hampton, John Thomas "Tommy"

John "Tommy" Hampton, 35, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away May 31, 2015. Born December 12, 1979, to Mary Hampton and John Mike Hampton of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He predeceased by his mother Mary Terry Hall, grandparents Dorothy and Johnny Terry, grandfather John F. Hampton.
Survivors include his father John Mike Hampton, stepmother Janie Hampton, grandmother Gussie Hampton, brother Timmy Hampton, stepsister Shelly McManus and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and hundreds of friends.
Memorial service will be held at LakePointe Church Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Bearss officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial s may be made to Celebrate Recovery at LakePointe Church. Following the service the family will be at 564 Couchwood Rd. Hot Springs, Arkansas. Hanlon, Dorothy Mae Kortmeyer

Dorothy Mae Hanlon (formerly of O'Neill, Nebraska) 84, died October 20, 2009, in Loveland, Colorado. She was born April 4, 1925, in Burke, South Dakota, to Henry and Maria Kortmeyer.
She married Benjamin F. Hanlon Jr. on June 24, 1950, in Gregory, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1994.
She retired from nursing in 1985 from Longmont United Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters Pamela (David) Roettjer of Estes Park and Debra (Jim) Russell of Loveland; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters-in-law.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26 at Allnutt Funeral Service. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church with burial following at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Harrell, Mary Jane Terry Cameron Fields

Mrs. Mary Jane Harrell In memory of Mrs. Mary Jane Harrell, who died at a hospital in Little Rock last Sunday [believe this is from the previous week]. She is survived by a son, L. M. Harrell [don't think he was a biological child], of North Little Rock; a daughter, Mrs. Lillie Tapley [don't think she was a biological child], of Little Rock; two nieces, John John Lee of Benton and Mrs. Mary Evans of West Texas; a nephew and three grandchildren. She was laid to rest in the Cameron Cemetery at Salem.

Harris, Harriet Amy Belinda Caldwell

Harriett B. Harris of Benton died Thursday, May 11, 2000. She was 93. She was born October 9, 1906. She was a homemaker and retired from owning the Bryant Dairy King since the early 1950s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lessel Harris. Survivors include her son, Ronald Harris and his wife Rose of Benton; two brothers, J. D. Caldwell and his wife Audrey, and Walter C. Caldwell and his wife Reba of Bryant; four grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Christy Harris of Benton, Ronda and Arden Tomlin of Benton, Cheryl and Edgar Bosque of Benton, and Carol and Kelly Newbolt of California; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial to follow at Ten Mile Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Grant will officiate. Harris, Kenneth Louis

Kenneth Louis Harris, 71, of Little Rock, passed away June 24, 2010. He was born December 19, 1938, in Benton, Arkansas, to the late A. W. and Eula Harris. Kenneth was a member of the Rubicon Lodge #627 and worked many years at Alcoa as a Machinist. He was a member of the Mt. Ida Baptist Church and his home church was Kentucky Missionary Baptist Church of Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Imogene Harris, brothers, H. W. and T. O. Harris.
Survivors, daughter, Charolett Renai Wallis, son, Kenneth Lynn Harris, step son, Paul Fisher, sisters, Pauline Tittle and June Vinyard, many nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Pallbearers will be Larry Tittle, Bryson Tittle, Gary Harris, Eric Vineyard, Derwin Harris and Ethan Harris.

Lessel Harris, aged 73, of Bryant died Tuesday. He was born in Garland County but had lived in Bryant for 20 years. He was a retired employee of Reynolds Metals Co. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Harriett Caldwell Harris; a son, Ronald Harris of Bauxite; 2 brothers, Raymond Harris of Texas and Keith Harris of Clarksdale, Mississippi; 5 sisters, Mrs. Freda Elliott, Mrs. Nolin Elliott, Mrs. Coy Shoppach and Mrs. Edwina Kent, all of Benton, and Mrs. Othelda Miles of Bellevue, Washington, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. W. L. Harris, aged 65, of Owensville (Saline County) died Thursday, December 4. He was a lifelong resident of the county. He was a retired boilermaker and a farmer. He was a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church. Harrison, Ernest Wayne

E. Wayne "Nanny" Harrison, 89 of Benton, passed away August 27, 2015. He was born October 30, 1925, in Saline County to the late Ishmael and Jewell Ferguson Harrison.
Wayne was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving during Iwo Jima and witnessed the raising of the United States Flag at Mt. Suribachi. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton and the Alumni Lodge #574 in Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdad, Rodney Doyle, wife, Dorothy Johnson Harrison, granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Rodden, great-grandchildren, Faith Ann Harklau and Faith Goodnight.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Charlotte Yvonne Harrison, daughters, Dureta (Jim) Staples, Waynell (Steve) Lewis, step daughters, Kathy (Eddie) Goodnight, Judy (Larry) Rodden, grandchildren, Ryan (Shelly) Lewis, Rita (Brad) DeGeus, Melissa (Brandon) Harklau, Daniel (Samantha) Hudson, Michael Hudson, Jerry (Kerry) Goodnight, James (Holly) Goodnight and Douglas(Jessica) Rodden, sixteen great-grandchildren.

Harrison, William Louie

William Louie Harrison, 60, of Atkins died unexpectedly Monday [February 28] at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville. Although he had been taken to the hospital the previous night, his death of an apparent heart was unexpected. He had been associated with Cheek Wholesale Grocer Co. here for 40 years and was widely known throughout the area. He joined the firm as a warehouseman and was later promoted to supervisor of the shipping department. As the business grew and expanded, he joined the sales department in addition to his shipping duties and was the senior member of the sales staff at the time of his death. He was active in church and community activities, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the City Council for several years. He maintained an interest in sports and athletics, playing on the town's baseball and softball teams in his earlier years and was an enthusiastic supporter and booster of the local high school athletic program. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Atkins and a Mason. He served with the Navy during World War II. He was a native of Warren, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James David Harrison. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katheryn [Catheryn] Matthews Harrison; a son, Rev. James D. Harrison, a Methodist seminary student of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Mrs. Hugh Stockton, Mrs. Gordon Crane and Mrs. Eual Clingan, all of Jackson, Michigan, and three grandchildren. Funeral service was held this (Wednesday) morning at the First Baptist church by Dr. Ben Elrod of Ouachita Baptist University and Rev. W. H. Jenkins. Mrs. Margarette Thompson Hartsell, aged 88, of 10905 West Markham Street, widow of Harry V. Hartsell, died Friday. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church at North Little Rock. Hawkins, Virginia Carter

Virginia Carter Hawkins, age 74, of Bauxite, passed away Tuesday November 4, 2008. She was born April 24, 1934, in Aplin, Arkansas. Mrs. Hawkins graduated from Bauxite High School in 1952, retired from Wal-Mart and was a member of the Highway 5 Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Effie Carter; husband, Norman Hawkins and a brother, Brents Carter.
She is survived by five sons, Rodney Hawkins and wife Reba of Maumelle, Britt Hawkins and wife Lisa of Conway, Stewart Hawkins and wife Cheryl of Bauxite, Steve Hawkins and wife Karen of Benton and Patrick Hawkins and wife Tommie of Beebe; two daughters, Kelley Thweatt and husband Rick of Benton and Roxanne Hawkins of Fort Smith; sister, Rosemary Graddy of Benton; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tyler, Rodney, Britt, Stewart, Steve and Patrick. Honorary pallbearer will be Dale Graddy.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday November 7 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Hays, Colquette Earl

Earl Hays of Garland, Texas, died Saturday, June 10, 2000. He was born October 8, 1903, at South New Hope, a community south of Russellville. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, a chemist and a member of First Christian Church. He served two terms as president of Eastern Hills Country Club and held various offices in the Rotary club of Dallas, Texas. He owned a chemical water treating business in Dallas, where he worked until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Meek and Ida Hays; a sister, Lois Stewart of Fort Smith, and a brother, Austin Hays, of Fort Smith. Survivors include his wife, Berniece Hays of Garland; Owen Hays and Roy Hays both of Atkins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Hays, David Meek

D. M. Hays Called By Death Friday At Age Of 82
D. M. Hays, aged 82, well-known Atkins resident, died Friday, May 8, at his home.
Mr. Hays had resided here since 1917, moving here from the New Hope community, south of Russellville. He farmed quite extensively before retiring several years ago.
He was born January 14, 1871 [date must be incorrect as he is listed in 1870 census], at Gastonia, North Carolina, the son of John and Susan Smith Hays. he came with his family to this state at an early age. The family resided in Cabot for a few years and then at Chickalah, in Yell county.
Mr. Hays is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Austin Hays; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Stewart of Fort Smith; four sons, Owen of Atkins, Roy of Hot Springs, Earl of Dallas, Texas, and Austin of Fort Smith. One child died in infancy.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the local Methodist church, conducted by Rev. George Stewart, assisted by Rev. Garner Martin, Presbyterian minister. Interment was at Bells Chapel, directed by Lemley Funeral Service.

Hays, David Owen

David Owen Hays, 101, of Atkins died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at his home. He was born April 18, 1900, in South New Hope, a community south of Russellville. He and his family moved to Atkins on January 17, 1914. He was a retired electrician and sign painter. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Atkins. He was a graduate of Tyler Texas Commercial College and an employee of the Civil Aeronautics Administration during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Meek and Ida Austin Hays; three brothers, Roy, Earl and Austin Hays; and two sisters, Flossie, who died as an infant, and Lois Stewart. Survivors include his wife, Irene Aldridge Hays of Atkins; a son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Mir Hays of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Richard Ridling and Gaynell and David Staggs of Atkins; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist church in Atkins with the Rev. Robert Woody officiating. Burial was in the Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service. Active pallbearers will be Lavon Stanley, Jesse Aldridge, Jr., Jim Stanley, J. L. Austin, Larry Carter, and Floyd Fryer. Doris Della Hays of Fort Smith died Monday, April 5, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church and the widow of John Austin Hays.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery in Russellville under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Austin Hays and Earl Hays; and two sisters, Flossie Alma Hays and Lois Hays Stewart. Survivors include his wife, Lola Matthews Hays of Atkins; two sons, William David Hays of Hot Springs and Dr. Phillip Roy Hays of Corvallis, Oregon; one brother, Owen Hays of Atkins; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Ted Monroe Hefley, 54, owner and operator of Hefley Sanitation Co. and a life resident of Garland County, died in a local hospital Tuesday. He was a Baptist and a veteran of World War II. Henderson, Kameron

Kameron Henderson, age 29, of Malvern passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born June 12, 1985, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Murry Rex and Karen Aileen Pilcher Henderson. He was a welder for Reed’s Metals, a member of the Hot Spring County 4-H and the Cattleman’s Association and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Kellye Henderson; grandparents Connie and Dorthy Pilcher and Murry and Earnestine Henderson.
Survivors include his father, Rex Henderson of Malvern; wife, Candi Henderson, to whom he married on July 21, 2012; sons, Mason Dale Henderson and Kyle McKenzee Henderson; step-son, Robert Holton Chancellor and step-daughter, Kaylyn Haylea Chancellor; nieces, Rhyanna Perry and Cheyanne Perry all of Malvern.

Mrs. C. B. (Elizabeth) Henderson age ninety-two, died at her home, 302 River St, Benton, Ark., May 5th, at 10:40 pm. She came to Arkansas from Mississippi at the age of four. Her family first resided in the Bland community of Saline county. In the year of 1880 she was married to the Rev. C. B. Henderson. To this union was born nine children all of whom have passed on except one son, Jerome Bryan Henderson of Benton. Aunt Elizabeth, as she was better known, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Montgomery at Sharon Baptist Church near Benton, 3 p.m. Monday, May 5th. Ashby Funeral Home in charge. Kellye A. Henderson, 26, of Malvern passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was born August 10, 1982, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to M. Rex Henderson and Karen Aileen Pilcher Henderson. She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Malvern.
She is survived by her father, Rex Henderson, Malvern, Arkansas; one brother, Kameron Henderson (and wife Heather) of Malvern, Arkansas; grandfather, Murry Henderson of Malvern, Arkansas; two nephews, Mason and Kyle Henderson of Malvern, Arkansas; aunts and uncles include Donald and Judy Pilcher of Social Hill, Arkansas, Jim and Marge Rogers of Kansas City, Missouri, Cathy and Ronnie Pilcher of Pennsylvania, Emma Henderson of Malvern, Arkansas, Loveda DuVall of Benton, Arkansas; cousins include Brad Henderson, Susie Henderson, Lana Henderson, Haley Hill, Paige Hill, Traci Snyder, Steven Pilcher, Vickie Dauber, Todd Pilcher, Tiffany Rogers, and Jason Rogers. Virgil Lewis Henry, 68, Owensboro, died Friday, May 16, 1997, at Norton's Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Ohio County, graduated from Western Kentucky University and retired from W. R. Grace Co. He was a member of First Christian Church, Ohio Valley Management Club, Moonlite Coffee Roundtable and the W. R. Grace Quarter-Century Club.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Harper Henry; his son, Lt. Gov. Stephen L. Henry, M. D., of Louisville; his mother, Ena Henry of Beaver Dam.

She was born January 15, 1904, in Reform.
Mrs. Hester was a homemaker and attended Outreach for Christ Church in Benton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucretia Cox; husband, Cranford Hester; three brothers, Jeff, Ben and Henry Cox; and four sisters, Nancy Hendrix, Rosa Louallen, Ollie Hester and Susie Hunsaker.

Georgetta Lucille Hester, age 78, of Benton; passed away Monday March 20, 2006. She was born on February 8, 1928, in Whittington, Arkansas, to the late Homer Carl Ford and Luttie Moore Ford. Mrs. Hester worked nineteen years as mail route carrier for the U. S. Postal Service and twelve years for Sears Roebuck in Little Rock. She was the Secretary to Saline County Judge Parker Johnston and a member of Spring Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years, John Alvie Hester. She is survived by one son, Dennis Alvin Hester; two daughters, LaVenia Jeanette Jones and Georgine Ruth McKim and husband David; three sisters, Othelda Grace, Willie Jeff Wilson all of Benton and Rosella Oglesby of Quitman, Texas; a special cousin, Faye Nebel of Lake Orion, Michigan; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Duane Franklin House, 50, of Donaldson passed away on July 21, 2017.
Duane was born to Robert and Rachel Sirratt House on December 16, 1966, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Duane liked to play the guitar, collect
coins, bronze, and watches. He was a mechanic at trade and at heart who loved to work on cars and drive trucks. Duane also loved spending time with his family whom he treasured especially his grand-baby "Cranky Rabbit."

The daughter of the late George Ell Criddle and the late Dolly Staggs, she was born in Clay County and was a resident of Floy Dyer Manor. She was the widow of the late Frank Burkett Houser and was a housewife. She was a member of Arbor Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Annie Phelps of West Point, Mrs. Mary Dodson of Houston and Mrs. Marie Ashby and Mrs. Ruby Hodnett, both of Vardaman and three brothers, Priest Criddle of Houston, Floyd Criddle of Philadelphia and Troy Criddle of West Point.

Huchingson, Daniel Dell

Crash Injuries Prove Fatal to Resort Youth.
Danny Huchingson, 14, died at a Little Rock hospital Sunday from multiple head injuries received Thursday when his motorcycle smashed into a car at Frieda and Summer Streets. A companion on the motorcycle, Walter Paulson, 13, was treated and released at St. Joseph's hospital after the accident. The Huchingson youth, however, was rushed to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, where he died about 2 a.m. Sunday without regaining consciousness. Cranial surgery was performed shortly after arrival at the Little Rock hospital in an effort to save his life. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, a member of the Viking band and was treasurer of the Student Council at Southwest junior high school, where he was a ninth grade student. He lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delvis Huchingson at 412 Henderson. He is survived by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Huchingson, El Monte, California; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Vivian Arma Huchingson, 93, went home to be with the Lord and join her husband and son on January 19, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband, Delvis; son, Danny; grandson, Barth; and eight brothers and sisters. Vivian was born in Saline County on April 6, 1912. She was a well-known seamstress and cook. A loving mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by all. She was a member of Second Baptist Church for many years and was currently a member of First Baptist church. She was a devoted Christian all of her life and loved the Lord with all her heart and soul.
