Overbey, Benjamin Franklin, Jr.

Benjamin Franklin Overbey, 85, of Morrilton, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1923, at Lamar (Johnson County) to Benjamin Franklin Overbey and Etta Dodson Overbey. Ben served in World War II as a crew chief on bombers in Italy. He continued in the Air Force for 17 years until 1961 when he and two others purchased a Motorola two-way radio shop in Little Rock. He owned and managed Central Arkansas Communications with his business partner, Don Orender, until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman. Gardening was a strong interest with his tomatoes being highly prized by friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Ruffiner Overbey of Morrilton; a son, Thomas L. Overbey and wife Sallie C. Overbey of Fayetteville; a brother, James L. Overbey of Lamar; a sister, Mary Helen Monroe of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Simon J. Overbey of Seattle and Audrey B. Overbey of New York City. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene Ellison, Opal Jones, Genevieve Hudson, and Kathleen Talkington.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Charles Thessing officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 506 E. Overbey, Geraldine Ruffiner

Geraldine Ruffiner Overbey, 88, of Morrilton died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Fayetteville Health and Rehab Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was born December 1, 1922, at Morrilton (Conway County) to Ernest and Montine Tillett Ruffiner.
Gerrie worked and made lifelong friends at the ordinance plant in Jacksonville during World War II. After marrying Ben, they were posted at many bases while serving in the Air Force - Hawaii, California, Texas, Illinois, and Mississippi. While Ben ran a Motorola two-way radio shop in Little Rock, Gerrie became a head checker for Kroger in North Little Rock. Gerrie was a wonderful cook and gardener, enjoying both during her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Benjamin Franklin Overbey, her sisters, Dorothy Jean Wiedower and Helen R. Zimmerman, and her brothers, Ernest Ruffiner Jr., and William Ruffiner.
She is survived by her son, Thomas L. Overbey and wife Sallie C. Overbey of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Simon Overbey and wife, Liko Lee, of Seattle and Audrey Galang and husband, Lex Galang, of New York City; her sisters, Mary Frances Stobaugh of Russellville, and Bettie Stone of Conway; and her brothers, Robert Ruffiner of Conway, and Larry Ruffiner of Morrilton.
Visitation beginning at 9:30, with a memorial mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at Sacred Heart Church in Morrilton with the Rev. Charles Thessing officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
