Tabb, Maria Scott "Scottie" Bates

Bates Tabb's Mother Dies
Mrs. Maria Scott Tabb, member of a long prominent Houston Family, and daughter of one of this community's earliest settlers and founders, was laid to rest in the Houston Cemetery Friday afternoon following impressive funeral services from the Tabb residence.
Services were conducted by the Rev. W. C. McCay, pastor of the First Methodist Church of this city, who was assisted by the Rev. D. D. Satterwhite, Baptist pastor.
Active pallbearers were: C. Doss, Jim Blair, Dolph Montgomery, Fred Dulaney, Jim Hugh Tabb, and Featherston Tabb. Mr. Montgomery's father was an attendant at the deceased's wedding.
A mixed quartet softly sang "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages." Beautiful floral offerings attested to the esteem for which Mrs. Tabb, more affectionately known as "Miss Scottie," was held in this community.
Death came on her 88th birthday, a week ago Thursday evening about 5:30. Up until several years ago, she had been extremely active, especially in her church work. She was a Presbyterian. Mrs. Tabb had been in declining health for some time.
Besides her son, Bates of Houston, with whom she was making her home, she leaves two other sons, Orin, of Tuscaloosa, and Malcolm, of Monroe, Louisiana; a daughter, Mrs. Scottie Sue Holbert of Dallas, Texas; a twin sister, Mrs. May Bates White of Memphis; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Born November 6, 1859, the deceased was the daughter of the late Judge William S. Bates and Nancy Susana Martin Bates. Her parents were among Houston's most prominent personages. Her father died at the age of 87. He had been a citizen and leader of Houston and Chickasaw county for 61 years. He enlisted in the Confederate army as a private, preferring to be commanded than to be in command.
Mrs. Tabb was educated in Houston, by a private tutor from Virginia.
In 1883 she was wed to William Featherston Tab, a druggist here. In 1894 they moved to Waco, Texas, where they resided for three years. Her husband died in Waco, and Mrs. Tabb returned to Houston where she lived until nearly 20 years ago, when she moved back to Texas to live with her daughter, Mrs. Holbert in Dallas. More than three years ago she went to Tuscaloosa to be with another son, Oren, coming back to Houston last year. (from the Houston Times Post dated November 13, 1947)

Tabb, Virginia Adelaide Moseley

Mrs. Bates Tabb Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Virginia Adelaide Moseley Tabb, widow of the late former Houston Mayor Bates Tabb, died at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 2, at the Houston Hospital following a long illness. She was 87.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, June 4, at 4 o'clock from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Howard Hathorn, pastor of the Houston First United Methodist Church, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Eugene Russell of Greenville, a former local pastor.
Interment was in the Houston Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Dendy, R. C. Pearson, Jr., David L. Criddle, George Caldwell, Roy Paden Davis, and Paul Floyd.
Mrs. Tabb was the daughter of the late Thaddeus Mortimer Moseley and Julia Crowell Moseley of West Point, Mississippi. Mrs. Tab was born at West Point, Mississippi.
She had resided in Houston for 53 years. Her late husband owned and operated Tabb Bros. Drug Store here for many years, and she was associated with her husband in this business. (from the Times Post, June 5, 1975)

Taylor, Bob

Our beloved father, Bob Taylor, age 84, of Paron; departed this world Thursday June 12, 2008. He was born October 31, 1924, in Saline County. Mr. Taylor was a self-employed truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Rosie Taylor; wife, Dorothy Cox Taylor; three sisters, Ethel Deprist, Muirel Henry and Sara Hill; four brothers, Ted, G.W. (Dub), Lewis and Virgil Taylor.
He is survived by three sons, Anthony, Bobby and Leslie Taylor all of Paron; two daughters, Donna Taylor and Rachel Stone both of Vilonia; brother, Bro. Chock Taylor of Benton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 13 at Ashby Funeral Home.

Taylor, Milos M.

The Rev. Milos M. Taylor, 88, of Hot Springs died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, in a local hospital. He was born May 16, 1906, in Paron to William C. and Dora Phillips Taylor. He was a bus driver retired from the city of Hot Springs and a retired Missionary Baptist minister who served as pastor for most of the local Missionary Baptist churches for 40 years. He was a member of Center Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Whittington Lodge 365 F&AM and former member of the Fountain Lake School Board where he served for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Villa Taylor of Hot Springs; a daughter, Louise Ford of Hot Springs; two sons, Bud Taylor and Lynn Taylor, both of Hot Springs; a brother, W. E. Taylor of Lindsay, California; four sisters, Anna Brooks of Paron, Lona Chadwick of Benton, Ruth Hill and Dorthy Sanders, both of Pine Bluff; ten grandchildren, Ronnie Ford, Dwight Ford, Terry Ford, Steve Ford, Mike Taylor, Mark Taylor, Vici Brown, Chris Taylor, Lisa Blankenship and Phillip Taylor; and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Caruth-Hale Funeral Home chapel with Brothers Charles Lewallen and Jimmy Dale Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm today. Taylor, Shirley Bell Williams

Shirley "Granny" Taylor, 69, of Paron died Friday, January 13, 2006.
She was born February 12, 1936, to Noah and Opal Williams.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Paron Church of Christ and a part-time cook for Fox Ridge Estates. She was retired from the Paron school cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Dub" Taylor; and her parents, Noah and Opal Williams.
Survivors include four sons, Gill Ervin Taylor, Carl Erskin Taylor and Pete Taylor, all of Paron, and Sandy Koufax Taylor of Dover; one daughter, Portia Lane McDonald of Paron; two brothers, Hoytt Williams and Neil Williams, both of Benton; four sisters, Doris Legge of Hot Springs, Maxine Prince of Huntsville, and Avinelle Brown and Yvonne Ault, both of Paron; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ashby Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Turbyfill officiating. Burial will be in Bolin Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Taylor, Vera K. Holland

Vera K. Taylor, 75, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 17, 2008. She was born July 7, 1932, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the late Jim and Ruby (Keller) Holland. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Boyce R. "Bud" Taylor; one daughter, Vicki Brown and her husband Mac Thompson of Cabot, Arkansas; two sons, Micheal Taylor of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Mark Taylor and his wife Judy of Hot Springs; one sister, Tiny Kassaw and her husband Glenn of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Taylor; 3 sisters and 1 brother. Pallbearers will be Jim Boothman, Phillip Taylor, Terry Ford, Dwight Ford, Steve Ford, and Ronnie Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Kassaw, Rick Boothman, Chris Taylor, Loyd Wacaster, and Howard Mooney. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008. Funeral service will be at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, with Bro. Coy Samples and Bro. Jim Freeman officiating. Terry, Myrtle Harrison

Myrtle H. Terry, 84, of Hot Springs, died Friday, October 15, 1999, in a local hospital.
Born May 19, 1915, in Hot Springs, she was a member of Royal Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy M. Terry; her parents, W. I. and Lena Witham Harrison; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty Buck of Royal and Joyce Garrett of Mountain Valley; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Billy Thurman Harrison and Dewell E. and LaVerne Harrison, all of Benton; one sister, Crecia Ivy of Benton; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six nieces; and two nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. George Lynch and Jimmy Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Royal.
Pallbeaers will be Jason Buck, Buccy Light, Lloyd Garrett, Jr., Donnie Garrett, Ricky Garrett and Roger Reid.
Honorary pallbearers are Chad Garrett, Jeremy Garrett, Thomas Miller, Dr. Troy Oxner, Lance Coxby.

Thomas, Clyde Oscar

Clyde Thomas of Springdale, formerly of Benton, died Thursday, Aug 14, 1997. He was 67. He was a realtor for Griffin Realty and was the past owner of Thomas Auto Co in Benton. He was a member of First United Methodist church of Springdale. Survivors include his wife, Betty Thomas; three sons, Greg Thomas of Benton, Tom Watson of Richardson, Texas, and Jeff Watson of Springdale; two daughters, Mary Jane Ragsdale of Clarksville and Debbie McAdory of Benton; one brother, Raymond Thomas of Benton; four sisters, Freda Whitlock and Jerry Beech of Benton, Bernice Guellich of Greenlans, Pennsylvania, and Frances Berry of Humble, Texas and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Ashby Funeral Chapel in Benton with the Rev. Danny Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Thompson, Brandi Lynn Norwood

Brandi Lynn Thompson 28 of Benton passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2008. She was born on January 2, 1980, to Troy and Cindy Norwood. Brandi loved being a mother to her three beautiful daughters; she also had the ability to make everyone smile and loved to go swimming. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.
Brandi is preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Douglas Bowen. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Thompson; three daughters, Hayley, Kayla and Kara; her mother and stepfather, Cindy and Christopher Scott; her father and stepmother, Troy and Vicky Norwood; grandparents, Johnny and Judy Reese; three brothers, Dustin, John and Todd; stepsister, Kristina Bessie and stepbrother, Dominic Scott and many more family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008, from 5:00 - 7:00 at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Hwy 5 North, Bryant 501-847-9099. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Thweatt, Willie Mae Major Reese

Willie Mae Thweatt of Benton died Sunday, September 21, 1997. She was 61.
She was born April 5, 1936, in Paron to Charles and Luda Major.
She was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church.
She was a ward secretary at Saline Memorial Hospital for 20 years and was co-owner of Lisa's Bait Shop.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edison E. Major.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Thweatt; one stepson, Samuel L. Thweatt; two sons, Robert L. Reese and Ricky L. Thweatt, all of Benton; two daughters, Joan San Nicolas of San Diego, California, and Lisa A. Spencer of Benton; one brother, Don Major of Paron; three sisters, Nancy Rowe of Pine Bluff and Loella Brown and Glenda Haywood, both of Benton; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home and burial will follow at New Rosemont Cemetery.
The Rev. Rick Lumpkins and the Rev. John Best will officiate.
Lib Carlisle will present the eulogy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tinkle, Abijah "Bige"

Prominent Banker and Landowner Died Here Early Today
Bige Tinkle Will Be Buried Oakwood Cemetery Sunday Afternoon
Bige Tinkle, 72, native Texan, and long-time prominent banker-landowner of Corsicana and Navarro county, died at his home, 1235 West Third avenue, Saturday morning at 3:10 o'clock after a several weeks' illness with pneumonia. He was a native of Carthage, Texas.
The funeral services will be conducted from the family home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. J. Howard Williams, Dallas, executive secretary of the Texas Baptist convention, formerly local pastor assisted by Rev. E. T. Miller, pastor of the First Baptist church here.
Mr. Tinkle has been prominently identified with local banking circles for many years and at the time of his death was a director of the First National Bank.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J. C. West, Corsicana, Mrs. Carey G. King, Dallas, and Mrs. Jerry Daniels, Kerens; three sons, Hugh Tinkle, Dallas, Clifford Tinkle, Hamilton, and Elton Tinkle, Hamilton; several grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. C. H. DeLafosee, Corsicana, and Mrs. Wes Maggard, Amarillo; two brothers, Nathan Tinkle, Emhouse, and Thomas Tinkle, Clarendon; and a number of other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Joe B. Fortson, John T. Fortson, J. N. Garitty, A. G. Elliott, A. F. Mitchell, Sam H. Slay, R. D. Fleming and C. C. Roberts.
The funeral will be directed by the Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home.

Toland, Susan Hicks

Susan "Susie" Hicks Toland 48 of Bauxite passed away on November 23, 2010. Susan was born on December 16, 1961, to Earl Edward and Hattie Mae Hicks in Benton, Arkansas. She always enjoyed living life to the fullest, her most treasured times was time spent with her children, family and friends. Susan would never hang up the phone or leave a loved one without saying, "I Love You".
She is preceded in death by her father, Earl Edward Hicks; sister, Odessa Mae Narvaez; brother, Joe Desmond Hicks and nephew, Larry Joe Hicks.
Susan is survived by her mother, Hattie Mae Hicks; two daughters, Brittany and Courtney Toland; two sons, Michael and Robin Toland Jr.; five siblings, Marie Dempsey (Bobby), Linda Garner (Thomas) Pauline Day (Albert), Tommy Hicks (Kathy) and Larry Hicks (Stephanie); step sister, Sandy Kimes; her lifelong partner, Frank Dufek and several nieces, nephews and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.

Turbyfill, Cleadus Wilson "Smokey"

Cleadus Wilson "Smokey" Turbyfill III, age 67, resident of Paron, died Thursday, November 29. He was retired after 30 years at Alcoa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Cleadus Turbyfill II.
Mr. Turbyfill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patsy Taylor Turbyfill; son, Steven Turbyfill; daughter, Stephanie and husband Matt Brooks; two grandsons, Blake and Jared Brooks; daughter, Danielle Turbyfill; Brother, Forrest Turbyfill and wife Shawna; sister, Iris Michelle Brown.

Tyson, Lucille Beeson

Lucille Beeson "Cille" Tyson, 80, of the Hopewell Community died Tuesday, March 23, 1999.
She was a retired employee of Poindexter Printing Company of Morrilton, a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, the Economy EH Club and an enthusiastic researcher in history and genealogy.
She had compiled detailed genealogies of several families, including Beeson, Pew, Tyson, Matthews, Boyd, Murdoch, Hubbard and Blackwell. She was born in Blackwell, the daughter of Joseph Haywood "Buck" and Maggie Hubbard Beeson. She was raised by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Lem Pew, after her parents died when she was 7.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, John Henry Tyson; a nephew she raised, Robert Henry Tyson, and his children, Scarlett and Mike Tyson of Kansas City, Missouri.
Active pallbearers are Adolph Vodrazka, Bob Cains, Bill Cains, James Roy Tyson, Tommy Tyson and Van Allen Tyson. Honorary pallbearers are the men of the Hopewell Baptist church.
Visitation will be at 6-8 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Lemley Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church by the Revs. Jeff Cheatham, David Bishop, and Robbie Jackson.
