Umphers, Ida Lavern Magie

Ida Lavern Umphers, 86, of Little Rock, formerly of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, March 15, 2011, at home. She was born August 17, 1924, in Nimrod, Arkansas, to Hollis William and Josie Howard Magie.
Survivors include a daughter, Ida Sue Umphers, of Little Rock; and a sister, Carmon Anderson, of Perryville.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Posey officiating.

Vance, Alma Marie Croy

Mrs. Alma Marie Croy Vance of Sheridan, was born July 12, 1910, in Grant County, Arkansas. She passed away March 31, 1987, in St. Vincent's Infirmary, Little Rock, at the age of 76. Mrs. Vance was a homemaker, member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church, member Grant County Senior Citizens, widow of James Houston Vance, and was preceded in death by oldest son Deariel Vance. She was the daughter of John M. and Lula Bryant Croy. Survivors include 3 sons, Edward Vance of Sheridan, John Vance of N Little Rock and Jewell Vance of Datto; 1 daughter, Lavada Wells of Little Rock; 4 brothers, Hershel Croy, Arbie Croy and Monroe Croy all of Sheridan, Dewell Croy of Florida; 2 sisters, Bula Hixson of Sheridan and Ruth Marks of Little Rock; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Services were held April 2 with Rev. James F. Holmes and Rev. Lynn Steel officiating. Burial was in Orion Cem by Buie Funeral Home. [source unknown]

Vance, Amos Pryor

Amos Pryor Vance, Retired Farmer
Sheridan - Amos Pryor Vance, 75, died at Davis Hospital in Pine Bluff last night.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Little Creek Baptist church at Sheridan.
Survivors include five sons, James Vance of Little Rock, Elzy, Dan, Benny and Willis Whitaker, all of Sheridan; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Flory of Littl eRock and Mrs. Alice Roberts and Mrs. Elma May Croy, both of Sheridan; and one brother, Pat Vance of Sheridan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Little Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Lynn Steel and the Rev. John Jones. Burial will be at Moss (Lost) Creek Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home.

Vance, Claire Blair

Mrs. T. B. Vance Succumbs to Lengthy Illness Wife of Texarkana Attorney Was Leading Worker in Church
Mrs. T. B. Vance, 54, prominent church worker and resident of this city for the past 33 years, died at her home, 2208 County Avenue, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday after an extended illness.
Mrs. Vance was the wife of T. B. Vance, attorney and former municipal judge, and was prominent in the work of the First Presbyterian Church, Sixth and Pecan. Born in Faulkner, Arkansas, she was the mother of four children. During the war, she was employed at Red River arsenal for three years.
Survivors include two sons, Thaddeus Blair Vance of Lansing, Michigan, and James Franklin Vance, Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Vance Colapret Texarkana, and Mrs. Lois Vance Logan, Houston; one brother, Dr. C. C. Blair, Chicago, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs. Floyd Blair Steed and Mrs. Lois Blair Haughton, both of Houston. Mrs. Faye Blair Daniels of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Miss Florence Condray Blair, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.
Funeral Tuesday.
The body will remain at the East Funeral Home until funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Chauncey V. Farrell will officiate.
Active pallbearers will include T. R. Coulter, R. D. Junkin, C. M. Schmidt, Sidney Smith, Clifton Hodges, Tom Churchill, R. V. Hall, W. L. Henderson and other members of the Men's Bible class of the First Presbyterian Church.
Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Session and board of deacons of the First Presbyterian Church, Judge A. P. Steel, Judge Dexter Bush, officers and members of the Miller County Bar Association, Alfred Colapret, L. H. Parnell, W. C. Martin, Harvey Daniel, J. I. Logan, and Mrs. Vance's friends at Red River arsenal.
The family has requested that friends make contributions to the Texarkana Chapter of the American Cancer Society instead of sending floral offerings. Benton--Clayburn Lee Vance, aged 71, of Lonsdale (Saline County) died Monday. He was a retired farmer and member of the Owensville Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Miss Maude Bradfield and Miss Bess Bradfield, both of Texas. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Owensville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Owensville Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Service.

Vance, Deariel Leon

Little Rock - Deariel Leon Vance, 52 of Little Rock an electrician, died Sunday at the Veterans Administrtion Hospital here.
A native of Sheridan, Vance was a son of James and Alma Vance of Sheridan. He had lived in Little Rock for more than 30 years.
He worked as an electrician for the Champion International Corporation of Little Rock.
He was a member of the Mary Williams Masonic Lodge 307 and Brady Lodge 753 at Little Rock and a member of Sixty Fifth Street Baptist Church at Little Rock.
Other survivors include his wife, Wanda Williams Vance; a son, Deariel Ray Vance of Little Rock; a daughter, Gloria Vance of Little Rock; three brothers, Ed Vance of Sheridan, John Vance of North Little Rock and Jewell Vance of Little Rock; a sister, Lavada Wells of Little Rock; and two grandchildren.
Vance's funeral with Masonic rites, was to be held at 3 p.m. today at Drummond Funeral Home at Little Rock, with Chaplain Olen Hughes officiating. Burial was to be in Pinecrest Memorial Park at Little Rock. [from Pine Bluff Commercial, March 5, 1985]

Vance, Enoch H.

Col. E. H. Vance dead--Attorney E. H. Vance, one of the oldest and best known lawyers of Malvern, died at his home there early Saturday morning, after an illness of several months. Col. Vance was well known in Benton where he was often in attendance at court, and on Sunday quite a number of the members of the Masonic lodge went to Malvern to attend the funeral, which was in charge of that lodge. Memory of E. H. Vance
Enoch H. Vance, Jr., departed this life at Malvern, at six o'clock October 8. He was born in the state of Mississippi, and came to Arkansas in 1852, his father settling near Sheridan, which was, at that time, a part of Saline county. His first employment away from home was that of a clerk in a tobacco store owned by Mr. Howerton where the old First National Bank building stands on the corner of Markham and Main streets in Little Rock. From there he went to Abington College, situated in Abington, Illinois. Returning from school, he was made assessor of Saline county. When Grant County was made, he was elected its first Circuit, County and Probate clerk, which position he held four years. He was then elected one of the three county judges of Grant county. During his term as judge, he became interested in the transportation of mail and secured the contract on several routes in Southern Arkansas. Being licensed to practice law, he moved to Malvern where he opened up a law office, keeping his mail contracts until his practice as a lawyer began to be a success. Taking an interest in politics, he was for many years chairman of his party's county convention and executive committee. He was, for a long time, the state central committeeman from Hot Springs county, and was nominated twice by his party for Attorney General of his state, and once for congressman of this district and made an active campaign against Governor Little. He was postmaster at Malvern for eighteen years. He took great interest in the affairs of the Methodist church, especially in the Sunday school. He helped build two brick churches in his home town, the same being built for the benefit of the church of which he was so long a member. He was an ardent Mason and took great pride in advancing its cause, and was for awhile district deputy grand master. He loved to assist the poor and needy and had a heart of love for all of those with whom he came in contact. Part is his success may be attributed to his wife, for she loved to assist him in all of his undertakings, especially in his church work as a member, she taking a part in all the societies which led to the betterment of the church in her town . While he is gone may she continue in the good work in which she has labored so long and faithful and may they meet again in that beautiful mansion above. R.C.V. Vance, Eugene Perry

Perry Vance is Crushed to Death Cave-In of Gravel--Had Just Reported for Work At the Gravel Pit Is Survived by Wife, Four Sons and Two Daughters
Perry Vance, aged thirty-eight years, was crushed to death early Monday morning shortly after he had reported for work, provided by the Unemployment Committee. The accident was at the gravel pit east of Benton...the Saline township working at the pit were awaiting return of a truck to load same when Mr. Vance arrived; they were standing near a bon-fire. He picked up a pick and went to the gravel band and had hardly been on the job three minutes when the bank, about twelve feet high, caved in on him, burying him about a foot deep. Several men immediately began digging him out and he was alive when uncovered, but died shortly after arrival at the Blakely Hospital. Perry Vance was a son of the late Robert C. Vance, former postmaster here, and a leader of the Republican party for a number of years. He died two years ago. Perry is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters. Robert, who is in the US Navy, James, Junior, Vernon, Katherine and Martha Jane. Two brothers, Reyburn, of Blocher, and Clayburn, of Owensville. Two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Shoppach and Mrs. Nettie Martin, both of Little Rock. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Ashby Funeral Home, services being conducted by Rev. J. G. Vance, Faithy Ann Roberts Bradfield

Vance--Faithy Ann Vance was born in Saline County April 20, 1865; died October 5, 1901. Sister Vance was the youngest daughter of T. J. and Mary D. [sic] Roberts. She was first married to Phillip Bradfield in 1884, and to this union was added four children, one of which with father, preceded her to the glory world. She was afterwards married to R. C. Vance (1899), and with him leaves two little babes (twins). Sister Vance professed religion and joined the M E Church South, in 1884. She was truly a good Christian woman. No one knew her but to love her and respect her. Her patience and courage was manifested by her ability in rearing to almost womanhood three Christian girls. Vance, Gerald Lawrence

Gerald L. Vance of Benton died Thursday. He was 67. He was retired from the maintenance department of Alcoa, was a member of the Rubicon Lodge 627, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Louise Vance; one daughter, Brenda Richardson of Benton; his mother, Roxie Vance of Lonsdale; one brother, Willie Vance of Benton and two granddaughters, Angy Armitage of Magnolia and Amanda Richardson of Benton. Funeral will be at 11 am Saturday at the Gravel Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Gipson and the Rev. Clarence Shell Jr. officiating. Vance, Hubert Carlton

Vance: Hubert Carlton, son of Rev. R. C. and Mary Vance, was born in Danville, Yell County, Arkansas, May 17, 1881, and was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun, while hunting near Burk, Saline County, Arkansas, Dec 15, 1897. Hubert was a good boy, with chivalry and manliness in every expression of his life. The boys and girls of his community regarded him as a gentleman and a brother, because of his excellent, kind and loving character. We have every reason to believe he has gone to the home of the good, to live with God and the angels throughout eternity. His parents had labored to make him a good boy and a useful man, and he remarked a few days before his death to a young lady friend, that he had been happy for about two weeks. May God's love abide in the souls of his loving parents and brother and sisters, and the host of friends that are lingering here, and help us to submit to his will and live faithfully and meet Hubert in heaven. Vance, James Houston/Huston

James Huston Vance of Sheridan was born November 19, 1909 in Grant County. He passed away at the Doctors Hospital, Little Rock, March 13, 1986, at the age of 76. Mr Vance was retired from 3 M Co as an Equipment Operator, was a member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors are his wife, Alma Marie Croy Vance; 3 sons, James Edward Vance of Sheridan, John Amos Vance of North Little Rock, Jewell M. Vance of Cotton Plant; one daughter, Lavada Marie Wells of Little Rock; two brothers, Elzy P. Vance and Bennie Earl Vance both of Sheridan; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Roberts and Mrs. Elma Mae Croy both of Sheridan; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, March 15, at 2 at Little Creek Church by Rev. Dennis Holmes and Rev. Gary Moore. Burial was in Orion Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Vance, Ray Vance, Johnny Taylor, Larry Harness, Freddie Veazey and Ed Penn. [source unknown]

Vance, James Patrick

Sheridan - James Patrick Vance, 82, of Sheridan, died at his home Thursday. He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
There are no immediate survivors.

Vance, Jimmie Lillian Wilson

Jimmie Lillian Wilson Vance, 81, of Benton, was born November 9, 1932, to James Daniel and Lillian Gertrude Peeler Wilson in Peeler Bend of Saline County. She was the ninth of ten children born to the couple. She was only four years old when her poppa died leaving her mother with ten children.
Jimmie died May 15, 2014, in Hot Springs after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
She began working as a young teenager in one of Benton's cafes where she met Willie Doyle Vance, and they married November 5, 1949. In about 1966, she began working as a clerk at Harris' Shoe Store in Benton.
Jimmie became a member of Owensville Baptist Church and the Owensville Extension Club when she and Willie moved to Owensville after their retirement. A friend called her "the Martha Stewart of Owensville" as she could make something out of anything and loved cooking and showing others how to make quilts, pies, cakes, and chicken and dumplings.
She was predeceased by her husband; parents; her stepfather Samuel Nalley; her brothers James David, Roland Lee, and Martin Rudolph Wilson; her sisters Shirley Langley, Eara Ellen Wilson, Vera Ann Taylor, and Violet Wilson; and her granddaughter, Denise Denison.
Jimmie is survived by her daughter Patti Vance Hays and her husband David of Hot Springs and her son John Vance and his wife Dorcas of Owensville; grandchildren Lauri Denison McAdory of Benton and Justin Vance and his wife Rachel of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren Drew McAdory of Benton and Olivia "Libby" Rosenthal of Hot Springs; sisters Irene Kane and Mary Lou Weise of Benton and her half-brother Samuel Nalley, PhD, of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Services, officiated by Bro. Rick Merryman, will be Monday, May 19, at Ashby Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Owensville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy Weise, Jim Kane, Jay Hill, Ashley Rose, Patrick Young, and Jerry Carden.

The remains were shipped to Perryville arriving there Saturday afternoon where they were met by Frank Reid of ...being brought to the ...Home here...many loved ones...pastor of the ...of Perryville...held at the Perryville church...being made in the ...cemetery. Mrs. Vance was born in Clarksville, but has lived much of life in Perryville having taught in the schools of that county in her younger days, and for a number of years was postmistress there. She was held in high esteem by her former friends and many attended the last rites conducted for her Sunday. Loved ones arriving here Saturday night were C. D. Vance and Mrs. M. Mrs. Lucy A. Vance
Texarkana, January 3 -
Mrs. Lucy A. Vance, 71, mother of Municipal Judge T. B. Vance of Texarkana, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Birdie Sword, at Merced, California.
She was born in Clarksville, and until the death of her husband a few years ago, had lived all her life in Arkansas.
In her young womanhood she was a teacher in the public schools of Perry County. She also served as postmaster of Perryville.
Judge Vance left this morning for Clarksville to attend the funeral this afternoon.
Mrs. Vance was a sister of the late Mrs. Opie Reid, famous humorist.

Vance, Margarette Shanberger

Died. Vance. At the residence of her parents at Maumelle, Arkansas, on the 1st day of June 1878, Mrs. Maggie A., wife of James A. Vance, Esq., of Perryville, Arkansas, aged 23 years. Sister Maggie Vance was the daughter of Brother John and Sister Elizabeth Shanberger. She professed religion and joined the M.E. Church South about five years and has continued a faithful and consistent member till her death. Her funeral sermon was preached June 2 by Brother ? M Harris, M.D. to a large and interested congregation. Sister Vance was much beloved by all that knew her and by her death her husband has lost an affectionate wife, her parents a dutiful daughter, the church a a bright and shining light and society a useful member. A Friend.
She has gone from our sight, never more to return;
Her body lies low, her sleep is serene
When the call of the Angel shall bid us arise,
I'll meet you dear Maggie in the realms of the sky.
Till that blessed moment my darling, "Farewell!"
Your sweet, gentle spirit on this earth could not dwell
It has taken its fight to the realms of the blest

Vance, Mary Frances Perry

Caney, Arkansas. Vance: Mary Frances (nee Perry) was born in Montreal, Canada, September 17, 1857, came to the United States in 1861, spent her childhood days at Van Buren, Arkansas, and was married to Rev. Robt. C. Vance, August 2, 1875. Sister Vance was educated at our State University, and was a woman of high literary attainments, and was engaged the most of her life in teaching. She joined the M.E. Church, South, at ten years of age and lived a true, useful and devoted Christian the remainder of her life. April 8, 1898, at Burk, Arkansas, the death angel called her to a higher and happier sphere of life. Surely a good woman has gone home. She was truly devoted to God and loyal to her church. Her words of encouragement were helpful to her pastor, and the prayer-meeting and Sunday school were always made better by her presence and devotion. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn for her. She can never come back to them, but bless the Lord, if Bro. Vance, Allie, Henry, Nettie and Perry will live faithful, and serve the Lord, you will, some sweet day, ascend into glory to live with mamma and all of our loved ones through eternity.--S. W. Vance, Reyburn Peay

Reyburn P. Vance, 71 of Owensville died Saturday at a local hospital. He was born Sept 24, 1901, at Blocker Post Office (Antioch) in Saline County, the son of the late Robert and Faithia Roberts Vance. He was a member of Owensville Baptist Church. He retired from the teaching profession in 1963 having taught for 40 years at Paron and Rural Dale schools. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roxie Caldwell Vance; two sons, Gerald Vance and Willie Vance, both of Benton; one brother, Clayburn Vance of Benton; two half-sisters, Miss Maude Bradfield and Miss Bess Bradfield of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Mrs. Brenda Richardson and John Vance, both of Benton, and Mrs. Patti Denison of Hot Springs; and two great-grandchildren. Robert Campbell Vance, aged 74 of McCrory, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Benton at the home of his son Perry Vance. Mr. Vance formerly lived in Benton, serving as postmaster from 1907 to 1914. He was born at Pine Bluff September 6, 1856, the son of Enoch Harvey Vance and Susan Martin Vance. During the past ? years he practiced law in the ?ern part of the state. He is survived by three sons, Perry, Rayburn and Clayburn of Benton; two daughters, Mrs. ? Shoppach and Mrs. N. Martin of Little Rock; one brother, Samuel Vance of Perryville; 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Ashby funeral parlors in Benton. Vance, Roxie Jane Caldwell

Roxie Caldwell Vance of Owensville died Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Benton. She was 94. She was born April 11, 1905, in Owensville to James and Rhoda James Caldwell. She was a homemaker and a member of Owensville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn [Reyburn] Vance; a son, Gerald Vance; her parents, two brothers, Milton Caldwell and Lilborn Caldwell; and a sister, Lillie Caldwell. She is survived by a son, Willie Vance his wife Jimmie of Owensville; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Vance of Benton; 3 grandchildren, Brenda Richardson and her husband Larry, and John Vance and his wife Dorcas, all of Benton, and Patty [Patti] Hays and her husband Dave of Hot Springs. Survivors also include 5 great-grandchildren, Angy Rose and her husband, Ashley, Amanda Richardson and Justin Vance, all of Benton, Denise Rosenthal and her husband Peter of Fort Lauderdale, Fl., and Lauri McAdory and her husband Scott of Hot Springs; and 4 great-great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Abigail Rose, Libby Rosenthal and Drew McAdory. Funeral will be held at 10 am Tuesday at Owensville Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Gipson and James Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Owensville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Carden, Dave Hays, Scott McAdory, Larry Richardson, Ashley Rose and D. L. Ziegler. Honorary pallbearers will include Bill Carden, Conley Culpepper, Royce Harris, Hurlon Ray, Peter Rosenthal and Ersel Tillery. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ashby Funeral Home. Vance, Thaddeus Blair

Thaddeus Blair Vance, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 1996, at Bay Medical Center, Bay City, Michigan. Thaddeus Blair Vance was born October 14, 1915, at Texarkana, Arkansas, the oldest child of Thaddeus Benham Vance and Claire Blair Vance. He attended University of Arkansas and graduated in 1939 with a BS in Education. He achieved a BA in Geology in 1942 from the University of Tulsa, followed by post graduate work at Michigan State University. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, a Past-President of Michigan Basin Geologic Society, member of the Michigan Society of Economic Geophysicists, and a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association. Thaddeus Blair Vance served as an employee of The Texas Company (Texaco) for 7 years. Leaving Texaco in 1945, after having geological experience in 12 states, including Oklahoma, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, he served Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company in search for gas and gas storage for their Michigan utility customers. He continued his service with Panhandle for 14 years and made gas discoveries in both Livingston and St. Clair Counties, Michigan. He was first associated with the Southeastern Michigan Gas Co. in the late 1950s. He directed the use of salina salt caverns for the storage of gas for Southeastern in the early 1960's, and developed salt caverns for use as high pressure holders of hydrocarbons by both Battle Creek Gas Company and Ohio Gas Company. He had been a consultant for Zinder Engineering of Ann Arbor for many years. His experience and attention to field detail, both in the drilling for oil and gas, and in the requiring of quality control has led to profitable investments in Southeastern Michigan. In addition to his oil and gas work, his geological background gave him a voracious interest in ecological issues including land fill and disposal sites for hazardous and toxic waste materials. These interests gave him recognition throughout the state of Michigan. Other interests included the John Birch Society, Friends of Michigan Schools, and membership and participation in local churches where he resided. He was a staunch advocate for his God, family and country.
Thad has two daughters, Lydia Claire and Eleanor Lynne, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren from his first marriage. He married Apalena Roxaline Schulze February 1, 1947, in Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by one brother, James Franklin; a sister, Lois Marilyn; his wife, Apalena Roxaline; their four children, Roxaline Virginia, Cora Jean, Lois Elizabeth, Thaddeus Schulze; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

Vance, Willie Doyle

Willie Doyle Vance, 83, died at his home in Owensville on July 15, 2010.
Born October 28, 1926, in Owensville to Reyburn Peay and Roxie Jane Caldwell Vance, he was a member of Owensville Baptist Church. He attended Owensville and Paron Schools where he graduated in 1945. After high school graduation, he entered into the United States Army and was transferred to the Army Air Corps where he served in Japan and the Philippines. After being discharged from the service, he returned to Saline County and began working for Saline County Motors in Benton where he served as sales manager. He then worked for Thomas Auto Co. in Benton where he served as general manager and worked there until retirement in 1990. After retirement, he returned to his family’s farm raising livestock.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Gerald Vance; and granddaughter Denise Denison.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jimmie Wilson Vance; daughter, Patti Vance Hays, and husband, Dave, of Hot Springs; son, John Vance, and wife, Dorcas, of Owensville; grandchildren Lauri Denison McAdory and husband, Scott, of Benton and Justin Vance of Conway; great-grandchildren Olivia “Libby” Rosenthal and Drew McAdory; niece, Brenda Vance Richardson, and her husband, Larry; and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Dyer Vance.
Pallbearers will be Justin Vance, Scott McAdory, Larry Richardson, Andy Weise, Jim Kane, Jr., and Gerald Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Cathcart, Raymond Thomas, Lyndolf Ziegler, and Sonny Smith.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Ashby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Owensville Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Gipson and Rusty Keltner officiating.

Vaughn, Thurston Fred

Hot Springs - Thurston Fred Vaughn of Hot Springs died Monday. He was 73.
He was a retired millwright and member of Owensville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Tunnie Vaughn; one son, Jerry F. Vaughn of Hot Springs; one daughter, Sue Sutton of Redfield; two brothers, Dick Vaughn of Benton and Murl Vaughn of Bakersfield, California; two sisters, Ethel Shell and Norma Gene Shillito of Benton; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Owensville Baptist Church with the Rev. John Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in Owensville Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Home.

Vaughn, Tunnie L.

Redfield - Tunnie L. Vaughn of Redfield, formerly of Hot Springs, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995. She was 80.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Vaughn.
Survivors are a son, Jerry Fred Vaughn of Hot Springs; a daughter, Nina Sue Sutton of Redfield; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ashby Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Howard and Dr. John Farthing officiating. Interment will follow at Owensville Cemetery.

Veazey, Clarence

Sheridan - Clarence Veazey, 66, of Sheridan, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired timber worker, a Mason, a member and a trustee of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Toncie Croy Veazey; two sons, John E. Veazey of Sheridan and Clarence A. Veazey of Pine Bluff; four daughters, Mrs. Lula Lousie Clarke and Mrs. Jettie Anderson, both of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Eunice Harlan and Mrs. Lillie Paty, both of Sheridan; three sisters, Mrs. Alphie Epnett and Mrs. Myrtle Chandler, both of Sheridan and Mrs. Audie Duncan of Seattle, Washington; and 17 grandchildren.

Verell, Minnie Iota Houser

HOUSTON - Mrs. Minnie Iota Houser Verell, age 95, died Friday, January 26, 1996, at her home in Biloxi. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 28, at Arbor Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in Arbor Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Watts and the Rev. D. F. Wilson officiating. Houston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
The daughter of the late Love Aaron Houser and the late Daisy Avery Pate, she was born May 7, 1901, in Houston. She was a retired school teacher and principal of Pearsall School and was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. She was the widow of the late Eugene Verell who passed away January 26, 1980, 16 years ago to the day.
Survivors include one daughter Fay Campbell of Biloxi; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
