Medinah Big Wheels

 The Medinah "Big Wheels" is a parade unit of Chicago's Medinah Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine ("A.A.O.N.M.S" but more commonly known as "the Shriners.") The unit has appeared in parades throughout the country and participates, during the summer, almost weekly in parades in the MidWest. Each parade involves not less than six but up to fourteen riders, each of whom owns his own "highwheel." These bikes are reproductions of highwheels of the early 1890s, also known as "ordinaries" or "penny farthings." Funds raised by the unit are generally donated to the transportation unit of the local Shriner's Hospital for Children.
