Obituary
Mr. H.S. Pavlich, an old colonist and respected resident of Port Pirie,
passed away on Sunday (9 Dec 1917). Deceased who was 88 years of age, was born at Leith, Scotland, and his early years were spent at sea. He resided at Port Pirie as a smelter hand and wharf labourer for 44 years.

Prior to that he was one of the men employed on the construction of
the overland telegraph line to Port Darwin. He claimed to have towed the first wheat cargo loaded at the Port Pirie anchorage.
The diamond jubilee of his wedding was celebrated three years ago by Mr. and Mrs. Pavlich, the latter of whom survives.

The family consists of six sons, Messrs. S.G., H.S., E.J., W.F., C.S., & G.A. Pavlich (all of Port Pirie except Mr. W.F. Pavlich who lives in Victoria) and two daughters - Mrs. C. Prest, Port Pirie; and Mrs.E.Payne Franklin Harbour. Of the grandchildren, five have responded to the call of duty. These are:- Ptes., Clarrie and Syd Pavlich & W. Payne (at the front), Henry Pavlich (killed at Gallipoli) and Gordon (son of Cr. E.J. Pavlich) who has returned.
