Dudley married Anna Gray in 1803. They had twelve children all born in Strafford County, New Hampshire.

Dudley bought land on the highest hill, on the ridge, in the timber, near his father's and brother's land in Strafford, New Hampshire. He ran a lumber mill there.

Dudley and Anna's last child was born in 1822. Sometime after Dudley moved his family near Exeter, Somerset County, Maine. The 1840 Census states that Dudley was in Somerset County, Maine at that time. He was also in Fairfield, Maine and then he moved his family to Sardinia, New York at least by 1850 as that census shows him in Erie County, New York. He moved on to Ohio and finally to Indiana as is shown by the censuses below.
