Abraham Perry

Abraham Perry

(Abt 1736 to 1788)

Abraham, also known as Abram, reportedly had at least seven children.  His wife Anne was the mother of Sarah and Priscilla.  His mistress Mary Robinson was the mother of Arlan “Arnold”, Elizabeth “Betsy”, and Asenath “Sena”1.  I do not yet know the names of the other two children of Abraham.  I am still collecting information on him.  Eventually, when I am finished, many of Abraham’s descendants will be included on this website.

Many descendants of Abraham Perry’s son Arnold live in Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia2 alongside descendants of James Perry of Perrymount.  For this reason, a great deal of research must be done to sort out these two families.  It is important to note that I have not found any information linking these families ancestry except for the surname Perry.  The following information on Abraham and his son Arnold comes from Zane D. Perry3, a descendant and researcher of Abraham Perry:

“… Abraham Perry was born about 1740 in Bertie County to John and Sarah Perry…. (He) died in Bertie County, North Carolina in the spring of 1788. Abraham had at least five children out of wedlock, and one of those children was my ancestor -- Arlan Perry Robinson. Arlan Perry Robinson was born on December 10th, 1784 in Bertie County to Mary Robinson, a single girl who lived adjacent to Abraham's parents along Salmon Creek in Bertie County. Mary had three children out of wedlock by Abraham, as Abraham was still married to a lady named Ann Perry when these children were born. Arlan stayed in Bertie County and apprenticed to one of Abraham Perry's neighbors to learn the shoemaker's trade -- Sparkman Stone. Arlan Perry Robinson finished his apprenticeship on his 21st birthday on December 10th, 1805, and one month later he had "revised" his name to Arnal Robinson Perry. Arnal R. Perry, also known as Arnold Perry, left Bertie County, North Carolina in January of 1806 and quickly made his way to Floyd County, Kentucky. This area today is on Island Creek in Pike County, Kentucky (Floyd County, Kentucky subdivided in the 1820s and formed Pike County). Arnold became associated with the long hunters of Kentucky and he married to one of their daughters -- Mary "Polly" Ratliff in 1816. Polly Ratliff was the daughter of Nathaniel Ratliff and Patsy Farmer Ratliff of the Little River area of Montgomery County, Virginia. Arnold and Polly Perry remained on Island Creek in Pike County until 1841, when he sold his land and moved to what is now known as Perry Ridge in Wayne County, West Virginia.”

Zane has an invitation-only website for his Perry family.  If you are part of this family and wish to be invited to his website, email Zane D. Perry.  The subject line of the email is already filled for you.  Also, if you wish, you may email me with information to add to this website.  Check back from time to time for updates on Abraham Perry’s family. Also, check out Jack Perry's great website for additional information on Arnold Perry's descendants.
