In Memoriam. Mrs. J.K. (Genivieve) FANCHER passed away in Harrison Arkansas on November 6, 2007. Mr. and Mrs. FANCHER had been married for nearly 60 years. Mrs. FANCHER was an accomplished artist and one of her portraits hangs in the Arkansas Governor’s mansion.

Genevieve, Louella (Bailey) FANCHER, 80, of Harrison, died at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, Nov. 7 (2007). She was the wife of J.K. FANCHER, Jr. for 59 years. She had been a resident of Golden Living Nursing Center (formerly Harrison Nursing Home) for the past seven months. She died of complications from being a nine-year victim of Alzheimer's disease.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 220 North Arbor Drive in Harrison with the Rev. Chip Andrus officiating. Interment was at Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation hours were from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the church. Arrangements were by Holt Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 220 North Arbor Drive, Harrison, Ark. 72601.

Genevieve was the daughter of the late Clarence Everet Bailey and May Angeline (Plumlee) Bailey of Oak Grove. She was born May 10, 1927.

She is survived by her husband, J.K. FANCHER, Jr. of Harrison and their son, Terryl Nolan FANCHER and Kathleen Amy (Grover) FANCHER of Braintree, Mass. She was the grandmother of Kimberly Diane (FANCHER) Kelley of East Bridgewater, Mass. and Jennifer Kaye (FANCHER) Micalone of Natick, Mass. She was the great-grandmother of Daniel Paul Kelley, nine months, of East Bridgewater, Mass.

She is also survived by her sister, Loy Standlee of Berryville.

Genevieve graduated from Green Forest High School in 1945 and attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas). Her professional career included school teacher, bookkeeper, salesperson and bank teller. In 1963, she began a second career as an artist. She studied under more than a dozen nationally known artists in seminars across the country. She was a prolific and versatile artist and worked in many styles and was equally proficient with oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels.

Her portraits hang in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis and in the Arkansas Governor's mansion. Her paintings have been reproduced on calendars, magazine covers and limited edition prints. Her paintings are in homes and offices in more than 20 states and one foreign country. She had won many best of show awards in competition shows.

She was a charter member (1963) of the Harrison Art League and continued as an active member until her death.

She had square danced since 1965. She was one of the first female square dance callers in this area. She and husband J.K. organized the Skyline Promenaders (pre-teen dancers), Fanchainers (adults) and Stardusters (adult) square dance clubs. Together, they created over 500 square dancers over a 30-year period. They attended square dances, festivals and conventions in most of the states including Hawaii. She was a talented seamstress and created and made most of their square dance costumes.

She was baptized a Southern Baptist as a teenager and had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrison for nearly 50 years. She had volunteered at the church in a number of capacities including Sunday school teacher, director of Vacation Bible School and in cleaning up the church building following the 1961 flood.

FRANK M. CROW, a resident of Berryville, AR, was born December 2, 1912 in Marble, AR, a son of Jeff and Della (Howard) Crow. He departed this life Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in Berryville, at the age of 95. Mr. Crow served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Frank owned his own business for many years, distributing Phillips Petroleum Company Products. He also helped develop the Frank Crow Financial Center in Eureka Springs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Berryville. Frank loved fishing and traveling. He took many cruises with his wife, Ruth FANCHER Crow, and family. Frank and Ruth were active in maintaining the Fancher-Seitz Cemetery for many years.

Frank is survived by one son, Steve Crow and wife Peggi of Frisco, TX, one brother, Hugh Crow of Berryville, two sisters, Ethel Payne and Nell Fanning of Berryville, one granddaughter, Lauren Crow of Los Angeles, CA, one grandson, Stephen Sodemann and wife Anne of Wixom, MI, one great-grandson, J.R. Sodemeann and one great-granddaughter, Jessica both of Wixom, MI, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Frank was united in marriage with Ruth FANCHER, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents, two brothers; Carl and Raymond Crow; and three sisters; Ella Hull, Edith Sorenson, and Mavis Wheat. Visitation will be from 5 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Funeral Services were at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Skip French officiating under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc. Althea Mae FANCHER Courtot 

COURTOT Althea Mae Courtot Secretary at Merck, worked at Roselle Public Library, 85 Althea Mae FANCHER Courtot, 85, of Rochester Hills, Mich., formerly of Roselle, died on Feb. 20, 2008. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Park Cemetery, Woodbridge. Arrangements are in the care of the Potere-Modetz Funeral Home, Rochester, Mich. For online guest book, see www.modetzfuneralhomes.com. Althea worked as a secretary for Merck and Company Inc. and librarian assistant at the Roselle Public Library. She was a member of the Abraham Clark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Courtot was the loving wife of the late Elwood; dear mother of Alison (Robert) Wallner of Rochester Hills, Mich., Susan (David) Karlik of Darby, Mont., and the late Douglas Courtot, and grandmother of Catherine and Douglas Courtot, Lauren and Robert M. Wallner. Memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Garvis Spain

Garvis Spain was born Aug. 4, 1918, to Waldo and Ola Tyner Spain in Farmersville, Texas, and passed away on June 5, 2008 in Plano, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jason Spain.

He served as sergeant in the 2137th United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He received his bachelor of arts and master of business administration from Southern Methodist University. On Sept. 3, 1950, he married Jeanne Moss and moved to Midland, Texas, and worked in the oil fields until moving to Plano in 1952.

Mr. Spain helped organize the first Collin County Child Welfare Board, was a licensed Realtor and Appraiser, and former president of the Collin County Board of Realtors. He was an election judge in Plano for many years. After retirement, he became a dedicated city volunteer and was recently recognized by the city of Plano for his numerous years of service.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne Spain of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Sarita Carden (husband, Paul Carden) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Susan Spain (fianc/, Tony Fertitta) of Fort Worth, Texas; nephews, Rodney Spain of Farmersville, Texas and Colter Moss of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Donna Van Winkle (husband, Lester Van Winkle) of Farmersville, Texas; brother-in-law, Addison Moss of Farmersville, Texas; and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Tuffy.

Services took place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at Restland Memorial Chapel.

Editor's note:  Garvis' wife, Jeanne Lee Moss Spain is the great grand daughter of John Milton and Paralee Fancher Moss.  She has been inspirational in her genealogical help to many of our younger generation Fanchers.  I have only visited her once, but she gave me lots of data.
