Lycander Family History

Karin Ersdotter and Anders Vettersten had one child. His name was Erik Olaf. Karen and Anders never got married, and Karin married Lars Lycander, and Erik Olaf took Lycander as his last name.

Erik Olaf Lycander was born on the 30 May, 1868, in Sweden. He died about 1948, in MN. He married Carrie Svensdotter Hard on the 6 Jan, 1890, in Superior, WI. Carrie was born on the 6 Nov, 1870, in Skaine, Sweden. She Died on the 30 Dec, 1936, in Mahtowa, MN. For some years, Erik had a two story sash and door factory in Mahtowa, MN. Carrie came to the U.S. on the 21 Oct, 1887. And came to Mahtowa, MN in 1894.

Erik and Carrie had 5 children. They were Oscar Rudolph Lycander, Esther Amanda Lycander, Freda Matilda Lycander, Emil Conrad Lycander, and Hilda Caroline Lycander.

1. Oscar Rudolph Lycander was born on the 21 Dec, 1890, in Superior, WI. And died on Aug, 1961, in Mahtowa, MN. He married Ida Josephine Youngren on the 20 Sep, 1919, in Barnum, MN. Ida was born on the 28 Mar, 1896, in Barnum, MN. She died on the 23 Oct, 1978, in Carlton, MN. Oscar Lycander built the first garage in Mahtowa.The garage only held two cars. Later he built a new garage across the railroad tracks on the paved road. He was one of the first in Mahtowa to own a car. He is a vetran in WW1. Oscar and Ida had a baby son who was born in 1933 and died in 1933. The baby was buried at Mt. Salem Cemetery, in Mahtowa, MN. Oscar and Ida are both buried at Mt. Salem Cemetery, in Mahtowa, MN.

2. Esther Amanda Lycander was born on the 25 Aug, 1892. She died on the 11 Mar, 1958. She married Frederick William August Buss on the 5 Oct, 1912. Frederick was born on the 27 Dec, 1879. He died on the 8 Jun, 1973.

3. Freda AKA "Tillie" Matilda Lycander was born on the 20 Nov, 1895, in Mahtowa, MN. She died on the 27 Jan, 1950, in Nashwauk, MN. She married Otto Edwin Eyberg on the 5 Jul, 1924. Otto was born on the 1 Feb, 1885, in Mahtowa, MN. He died on the 29 Jun, 1962, in Brooklyn Ctr., MN.

4. Emil Conrad Lycander was born on the 20 Oct, 1898. He died on the 10 Jun 1900. He is buried at Mt. Salem Cemetery, in Mahtowa, MN.

5. Hilda Caroline Lycander was born on the 5 Nov, 1904. She died on the 24 Jun, 1966. She married Carl Helmer Borgen on the 1 Dec, 1923. Carl was born on the 31 Oct 1898. He died on the 18 Feb 1960. After Hilda died her son in law Allen Peterson took over the Borgen Cabin overlooking Park Lake. Now it is owned by Allen's daughter, Joan Peterson. And her other son in law Duane Grace took over the second Borgen Cabin nearer to the highway. Hilda and Carl are both buried at Mt. Salem Cemetery, in Mahtowa, MN.
