Part I

Descendants of Philpot John Sutton

A family history encompassing the complete descendants; both male and female lines

(at least those I am able to learn of)

Philpot J. Sutton and Susanna Hunnex came from England, (abt 1796). Crossing New England, they probably traveled up the Connecticut river valley, stayed a short time at Barnet, VT., then settled at Barnston, Stanstead County, Quebec (PQ), It is my goal to learn of all the descendants of these families, (male and female lines). I attempt to tell their story, and follow their migrations into Quebec, Ontario, New England, Illinois, Minnesota, Washington, California, and many other states.

I've outline some facts of their lives in chronological order. Some places I've made slight assumptions, most supported by other evidence. It is my desire to confirm or deny these. This is very much a working project. I try to update it at least quarterly.

I try to include references. However, any material not sourced remains as an oversight from my earlier days, or is a strong lead which needs to be followed up. I have had much help through many enjoyable contacts, a special thank you to all the volunteers that have helped me so much. I have met many distant cousins, what a special treat. There is much to learn. I hope to meet more descendants and improve our knowledge of our common ancestors.

I welcome any information you can add, no matter how small, as each piece builds upon the other. Please bring any errors or omissions to my attention. If you have any questions, please ask.

I now have learned of more than 2,700 descendants.

Part II

My Ancestors

Here I started out trying to answer the age-old question; "Where did I come from". I journey back along both my paternal and maternal lineage. It turned out to be quite an adventure and history lesson. Philpot Sutton's descendants marry into the established population of New England and most all these maternal lines go back to the arrival of the Winthrop Fleet.

As you'll see this is still a draft. The further back I go, My Ancestors becomes Our Ancestors. I once read somewhere, that 75% of the population of America can trace their ancestry to these early New England settlers. So, if I overlooked something, or messed it up, please bring any errors or omissions to my attention. I welcome any information you can add, no matter how small, as each piece builds upon the other. If you have any questions, please ask.
