Withrow Ancestors

Darnell/ Edens/ Gibson/ Hedrick/ Withrow/ Main

The Withrow Ancestors came to settle in West Virginia near Charleston. At the time the first ancestors arrived, the area was still part of Virginia. West Virginia became a state on June 20, 1863. Most of the ancestors were farmers, although many had other occupations as well. It is believed that the earliest Withrows came to America to avoid religious persecution in Ireland. They might have landed in Pennsylvania since many of the children of the first known Withrows were born in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania was know in Ireland as having religious tolerance. The Withrow children must have migrated to Virginia and some farther south. Many of the other ancestors lived in Virginia, perhaps landing their from their native country.
