Monington Family

of Pennsylvania

William Monington (1676 - 1753), a Quaker from Gloucester, immigrated from England to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1699. William and his wife Susannah Webb had only one son, John, who left descendants.

John Monington (about 1716 - 1788) and his wife Rebecca were dismissed by the Quakers in 1751. At the time of his father's death in 1753, John had more than one son living, although only his William can be definately identified. William Monington (before 1753 - 1818), and his wife Sarah Coxe settled in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.  There are several other Moningtons in the Philadelphia and Bucks County area that are very likely to also be children of John and Rebecca Monington. These probable children are Susannah, Jacob, Ann, Joyce,  Rebecca, and Mary.

In early records, the family name appears as Monington, Manington, Mannington and even Mornington. For individuals whose name is spelled in various ways - spelling has been standardized to Monington. If someone only used one of the variations - then they will appear on this site under that name.
