CANON  CEMETERY

A small graveyard surrounded by a chain link fence located on private property near the
original homesite of the Canon Family.  A chimney is all that remains of the homeplace.

Located outside of the fenced area was the grave of
Bertha Griffin
B. October 30, 1882
D. September 11, 1884.
She was probably the daughter of John & Mary Griffin.  Family legend states there was an internal
Griffin family conflict and the Canon Family allowed the infant to be buried on their property.
Families are not related.

Notes:  It is probable that John J. Canon (son of Edward F.) and his wife Hattie P. were buried
here prior to 1910.  Edward F. Canon's parents,  Dr. John R. Canon, M.D. and his wife Ann T.
(Waring) Canon are buried at this cemetery  or at the Moscow Cemetery in unmarked  graves
near their son, Dr. John Jobe Canon, M.D.
       J. J. & Mary R. Canon,  parents of  Sallie Ann and William Capers Canon, are buried at the
Moscow Cemetery.

LOCATION:  Take Highway 1745 from Barnes and go 3.1 miles.  Turn left on the County Line
road and go 1 mile.  Locked gate on the left side of the road.  Behind locked gate the cemetery is
located 1/2 mile down private road on the right under trees.  Permission from property owner is
needed to visit the Cemetery.
