Crawford Cemetery

Jesse R. Crawford came from Mississippi to Polk County, Texas about 1871-72 when he was
21 years old. He purchased 100 acres on Woods Creek in the George Allen Survey from
Robert W. Hubert on May 27, 1873. The property was located  near Leggett, Texas.
He married his wife Sarah about 1874 and they had six children:  William H. Crawford,
Nicy Susana Crawford, Ann P. Crawford, Thomas Benjamin Crawford,  James D. Crawford,
and  John Crawford. Mr. Crawford deeded the property to his six children on Mar 31, 1905.

Location:  At the intersection of  Highway 59 and FR 942 in Leggett, Texas, go east on FR 942
to the Hortense community area; turn left on a dirt road for 6 miles. Cemetery in woods and is
located on private property behind a locked gate.
