Now that you know all
about the history of the Portuguese Diaspora
in the West Indies, and have read through the essays and
historical documents in our Research
section, you are ready to further develop your family
history. In is not our intention
for this site to be an exhaustive resource for all
Portuguese Genealogy. On the contrary, we created this site
to fill a very specific gap in the resources we were able to
find on the Internet. If you want information on how to find
your ancestors in Portugal, or trace them after they left
the West Indies, there are other

Message Board - A
place to post queries and search through messages posted by
others. The surnames you enter on these posts are searchable
through Rootsweb and Ancestry.com, increasing your chances
of being found. Portuguese of the West
Indies Mailing List - a discussion list for topics
related to the study of Luso-West Indians. Topics will not
be excusive to genealogy, but may include current events,
recipes, books, etc. To subscribe, send an email with only
the word subscribe in the body of the message to
PORTUGUESE-WESTINDIES-L-request@rootsweb.com. Surname
Resources - a
wealth of resources for each of the more popular Portuguese
surnames including general history of the name, variations
in the name due to anglicizing etc., links to other
websites, links to surname mailing lists and message boards,
lists of researchers, biographies etc. Researcher
Directory - a
directory of Luso-West Indian researchers with details of
their research interests. If you have a particular surname

Archives - Our
Archives contain lists, several lists, compilations, and
extracts full of Portuguese names. Be sure to check them
