Richard WHALEY and Frances CROMWELL had sons
named Henry (2.1.) and Edward (2.2). The genealogy of these two sons is on this
page. Henry had a son (3.1.), whose name is not known, but his grandson was
named James (4.1) and that is where the family tree will start, at this time,
until more information is known.

A marriage record was located in 1999: Feb.
7, 1627--Edward Whalie of Flintham in Nottingham, gent. and Judith Duffield of
Rochester, Kent. M., L.V.G. (M means 'maiden' and L.V.G. is 'License Vicar
General')
(Note:
If this is the marriage record for Edward the Regicide, then it would seem that
his reported birth date of 1615 is in error.)

Numbers are needed for the 1840, 50 and 60
Census and the 1870 Census.
From Whaley researcher Carol Briggs of FL: Diary
of Joshua Hempstead: 3-21-1754, p. 626, 'I went to Thomas Skariot's (at
Capt. Daniel Cort's house in the Neck) and married his daughter Hannah to James
Whaley of the North Parish.' (North Parish was later called Montville, New
London Co CT.)
From Consignments to El Dorado by
Thomas Whaley, 1848: James Whaley was grandson of Henry Whaley who was a
brother to Edward the Regicide.
From The Whaley Family by Rev. Samuel
Whaley, 1901, p. 101-109:
1. Thomas and wife Miss Mulligan settled in North
East Harbor, vicinity of NY City. Children: Thomas Jr., Hercules, Cook Malcolm
or Mulligan, Margaret.
Note: From Calendar of NY State Wills,
1626-1836: The will of Thomas was probated Dec. 29, 1786 and named his heirs as
wife Sarah, sons Thomas and Hercules and daughter Margaret.
2. Samuel was in siege of Louisburg in 1745
and died as a consequence in 1749.
3. Jonathan was said to have settled in
Norwalk or New Canaan, Fairfield Co CT, married and had children. He was
possibly the great grandfather of Samuel (b 1821) of New Canaan, CT.
Note: Jonathan may have married Anne
Magee.
4. James married, went to Montville, settled
in Chapel Hill and had children. The following is a possible list of names of
those children:
a. Thomas-a mechanic, made spinning wheels, a
cripple and lived near Carr's Pond now called Salem. Born possibly 1756.
b. Humphrey lived and owned farms in
Montville, CT.
c. May-married Daniel Minor.
d. Hannah married ___Atwell.
e. James b 1-25-1775, d 1852, married
Waitstall Moore.
If, according to the book The Whaley
Family, James d c. 1722-1724 and if Alexander b 1713 were the oldest
son, then the younger 5 sons had to have been born between 1713 and 1722-1724.
This then narrows down the approximate time span of their unknown birth dates.
